In the 1919 accident when the explosion happened, he lost his right thumb and forefinger. After that he wore skin tone matching gloves in his movies - all those stunts without a thumb and forefinger! You notice in this show how much he conceals his right hand, it is constant, and the description of the explosion did not mention that injury. You can see the concern on his face when that topic came up. He must have been incredibly self conscious of it and somebody had presence of mind to advise they avoid that topic. What a giant if the silent film era he truly was!

One of the greatest laughs I have ever had was in "Safety Last" when he was climbing that building. My stomach was hurting. If you have never seen it please do.

Just last week I stood outside the building where he filmed the scene with the clock in safety last at 908 S Broadway in downtown LA. Absolutely hilarious movie

You could tell he lived children by his work with the Shriners, and the playhouse he built for his daughter.

The first modern liquid shampoo came out in 1930. They used to use regular soap to wash hair either by using a bar or cutting it into pieces and mixing with water.

Surprised to learn that Harold Lloyd was actually younger than Groucho Marx. I would have thought it the other way.

Harold Lloyd was born in 1893. Groucho Marx was born in 1890.

@@melissacooper8724 I'm not too far from their ages at the time now. I always wonder who has seen more changes, them from the 1900s to the 1950s or me from the 1970s to today. How quickly the world has developed. They would have seen the beginnings of the automobile, planes, talking movies, entertainment through a box in TV and radio, and two horrible world wars.

14:11 My only question is how did the real bomb get mixed up with the rest. Could it have been sabotage?
@KoryGilesMusicGroup4 ай бұрын
From what I understand, the bomb was thought to be a photo prop (at the time the bomb went off, Harold Lloyd was doing photos for Hal Roach/Pathé).

that host pisses me off, constantly interrupting Harold. I would have loved to hear what he wanted to say...

The host seems to think he knows more about his life than he does. Often getting his facts wrong and wants to talk about money

That's Ralph Edwards, who also created this show and the game show Truth or Consequences. He does seem cloying and obnoxious. When the show featured Laurel and Hardy as guests, Edwards tried to be funny by telling fat jokes. Bad taste, Ralph.

Harold's wife had to love and obey him. Especially obey. She didn't have his permission to work. If she wanted to work, she had to get his permission.

Keep in mind that when women got married in those days they stopped working and became housewives. It may sound sexist by today's standards but that was how it was.
@ninagill1407 Жыл бұрын
Harold only stopped her from being his leading lady after marriage as he said everyone knows they are married in real life and wouldn’t find them funny together anymore. She did appear in a couple of films after their marriage but they flopped.
