Honestly DL1 was the first horror game to genuinely terrify me without just spamming jumpscares everywhere every 2 seconds which is probably why I liked it so much I didn't need to get bombarded with sensory overload and loud screams to be terrified I didn't even need to see a volatile at night to be scared just the night itself scared me because "there could be something there" it's the same fear I had as a child of something lurking in the darkness of my closet or bed and DL1 hit that note perfectly

its cos the soundtrack unlike dying light 2 has barely any synthwave music, also DL2 has no middle eastern music at all within it, smthing about those middle eastern vocals in DL1, combined with that synthwave music, makes it feel as when ur roaming Harran, like ur drowning in despair, drowning from that technological weapon called the HARRAN virus. I made a youtube video doing an in depth analysis of the music in dying light actually

The devs at techland really knew how to make you feel a certain way. In dying light 1 it feels like a dying inescapable city with an inevitable end. At the start you are curious, and by your first night you are fearful, very fearful, you are not going to make it outside. In dying light 2 it feels like a beautiful but dangerous place, there is safe places but a lot of them are dangerous. When you first unlock the open world, you're filled with curiosity, you could do so much, and by night, it's not really scary, but chases are exhilarating, and honestly they're really fun.

The game has a design that doesn’t let up the horror aside from a few safe houses, it constantly spawns zombies around you basically anywhere and you can tell from the background ambience being full of zombie sounds and fire with no nature sounds or anything peaceful, that you won’t rest, making it more of a constant horror game than a actual open world

Dying Light was really good at making the world feel lived in. The atmosphere is really special. I remember playing it for the first half a year and I had a sealing fan in my room. So being in an aired apartment in the came and hearing the wind go through and feeling the breeze from the fan made it just so much better. And the micro situational stories you see throughout the game a couch in a room with syringes and leftover food packs, a crashed car with a dead body pined to a tree of wall... Dying Light 2 doesn't has much of that. Obviously there are two different groups of people who made the two Dying Light games.

Honestly Dying Light is single handedly my favorite game of all time, and as such I’ll give you a small warning for if/ when ya play Dying Light 2, DL2 despite being more graphically enhanced from DL1, doesn’t capture nearly any of the elements of DL1 very well or at all in some cases but is overall quite alright. DL1 has an atmosphere of dread, horror, and a dash of hope. Like you mentioned with the soundtrack its a rather soft soundtrack but it fits the tone so well and sets the mood the player should be feeling in the moment, I genuinely its one of the biggest factors as to why DL1 is just so pleasing with its atmosphere. DL2 on the other hand I personally feel is a great game and is becoming/became the successor to DL1 for its own reasons. Its atmosphere I feel is much more epic and really has that grand adventure tune to it, take its main menu theme for example. The game feels less of a survival experience and more of a skilled hero who battles monsters and villains and restores hope to all of vilidors/the loops citizens.

I would agree, the only game that contends that spot for me is the call of duty zombies franchise, but I wouldn't really classify that game as a stereotypical zombie game, it's more of a horde/wave based game.

Atmosphere is a crucial part of some of my favorite games. Some developers can truly nail a setting and while I do like the locales depicted in Assassin's Creed for their environments, history and accuracy, I have to admit that there's something special about a fictional place that can pull you in. Kyrat via Far Cry 4, Rook Islands - specifically the northern island - via Far Cry 3, the City of Glass via Mirror's Edge, and so on. Harran is right after Kyrat for me when it comes to how the game world looks and feels. There is this constant feeling of dread, or of hope being slowly drained away with the setting of the sun, a perpetual state of alert. But then there are those quiet moments, in a safe house, on a rooftop, atop the Antenna, where Harran opens up and you can see parts of the city still lit up in the distance, safe from where you are, and you think maybe there's a way to save the city and the people who still live there. The cityscape and interiors feel like a mixture of real world places, similar to Kyrat in Far Cry 4. Kyrat is heavily inspired by Nepal, India, Tibet, and Bhutan, and each element of the game world can be traced to those areas. Harran feels like Turkey, Morocco, Greece, and India. The architecture feels Moorish, the bazaars of Old Town feel like Istanbul, the Slums and distant downtown feel like Mumbai, and the Countryside Town reminds me of Greece or even Southern Italy. I remember I spent a lot of time combing through Harran trying to find something to indicate where it was meant to be set. I know now that the majority of inspiration likely came from Turkey, specifically for Old Town, but the Slums look and feel like Rio De Janeiro and Mumbai combined. TL;DR - Great atmosphere. Great game. Great video. Liked and subscribed.

This was a very good take on dying light, I think dying light nailed the zombie horror genre compared to all the zombie games I've played and I'm a huge zombie fan, I own all the resident evil games, and all of techlands zombie games, starting to play the walking dead, The Last of Us games which are my favorite games of all time. I'd like to say dying light has impressed me in atmosphere, Dying light 2 is alright I honestly was hoping for better atmosphere but I don't blame them cause first game was already like really good atmosphere so it's hard to nail it again. Go ahead and try dying light 2 it has a decent story and I'm gonna sub to see a take on dying light 2. Goodluck on your university man much love
@GhostlyNest
@GhostlyNest 2 жыл бұрын
Aye thank you for the kind words/sub thank you very much. I'm definetly going to be playing dying light 2. So far I like the idea of reviewing games (made a gotham knights one a lil bit ago that was very fun to make), thinking of making one about the new Pokémon game. However I will say that I can't give a time frame of when a potential dying light 2 video will come up. I finish uni this week, then have a month off (will still have my job tho), then in January I am moving out to a different city (to go to uni there lol). All of this will impact on how long it would take me to 100% complete and make a video on dying light 2. I love the first game though and the concept of the second game intrigues me a lot, considering how different the world appears to be and I think comparing the two could be very fun.

This is so true and it's really what makes dying light stand out imo. I also wanna point out that the quarantine element of the game which is made super apparent as well. Like when it gets dark and you see the city skyscrappers opposite light up, reinforcing that feeling of harran being forgotten as life seems to function like nothing happened right across the borders. Or even the military jets that start to scout the city, zooming past randomly, reminding you of harrans impending doom.

Such a masterful description, nearly as masterful as this games world and atmosphere. There truly isnt a game like Dying Light that can capture the same feeling of lonelines, desperesion, terror etc. Many games have tried, but unfortunately or maybe fortunately, the world will never see a game like Dying Light ever again. Even its sequel couldnt live up to its legacy that it left behind. And if that doesnt show something about this game, I dont know what does.

Witcher 3 is the culmination of one of the best trilogies ever made. Give it some time, immerse yourself into it, you won't regret it. Kyle gained his fame because his voice actore gave him a large range and variety of emotions for a game with quite a basic and straightforward scenario, but with characters that grow on you. Dying light 2 is the complete opposite, the atmosphere, the story, the side characters, the main protagonist, everything is shallow and forgetable. The sad story behind it is that lead writter of the game was fired due to old harassment story ( that turned out to be fake ), he's a story teller behind some of the best rpgs of the past 25 years and he had a very huge and complex story for dl2, but it never was made, instead they hired some randoms who rushed a basic story, quite disapointing.

Dying Light was/is sooooo good. They got so many things right the first time. The apartments seemed very lived in. The blueprints out in the world. Exploring was exciting. And coming the first time out of the tower is magical. The game's world is open for you to explore. In a game like this the journey is the designation. You grow, you improve, you get stronger, you become formidable. I was so much excited to explore Dying Light 2. And coming to the beautiful Central Loop and getting the paraglider is also magical. But the insides of apartments are too similar. Too much copy & paste. That kinda kills my adventurous spirit. Don't get me wrong, bashing zombies never gets old. Sad truth is Dying Light 2 only reached half of its potential. Now they're just building on the compromise they made.

I'm playing through it my second time in years with the 1975 postprocess filter enabled and I'm convinced this is the definitive way to play now. Climb that bridge and look at the city at night during a storm. IT'S A HELL OF A GRIND HOUSE VIBE.

Some of the best parts of the game are when you're running around during the day and you come across a survivor resting somewhere, if you talk to them they might give you some interesting conversations. I like the guy that says he owned all the ads in town, and tells you he was just a day too late to evacuate from the city. He has millions in the bank and it's all worthless to a dead man.

This gives so much nostalgia when I played it back 3 years ago. It gave a depressing feeling which I didn't want to be over. When not playing, it seemed Harran actually exists and I gotta go there soon, especially the countryside. Man I love this game. Thanks a lot for putting this video together.

This game is as precious to me as GTA San Andreas. It feels like Harran is home. I am now obsessed with post-apocalyptic cities now, thanks to this game. The second game is, by no means bad, but this game has a raw sense of apocalypse that, to this day, thrills me.

Dying light 1 was so immersive I actually dreamt about being in the actual world of it which is terrifying, not many games cam do that and it's part of why I praise it so much, I still remember how the dream went I was sneaky around at night in the rain and my heart was pounding then hiding in a food store and literally hearing all the sounds around me just made me feel true isolation and the dread of it all then a volatile saw me and I woke up heart pounding in the middle of the night lol

Hey guys, I just want to quickly thank all of you that have subscribed, as we have just hit 150 subscribers, it really means a lot to me thank you. Both uni and work have been ramping up for me a bit lately, but I still have the goal of uploading one new video a week, once university ends for this year, I will have a lot more free time to put into making videos. Hopefully will be upping to twice a week, but I want to maintain the quality of videos, so if I feel quality is going down, I will focus on that more than quantity. Thank you all again

I've put more gaming hours into Dying Light than the whole of my gaming collection combined,...it's very addictive. And even though I am fully tooled up in weapons & stats, the sound of the approaching night still unnerves me every time. That & venturing into the many volatile nests in the Following dlc 😧
