I have 456 hours into the game. These are the biggest issues: - Spent all their resources on complex human fight mechanics which failed (Can just spam hit and kill anyway). - Created a story around human vs human instead of DL1 which was humans vs surving zombies - Huge map with tall buildings but nothing to explore - in contrast to DL1, DL2 Went the bland RPG route with copy and pasted loot spots, generic mini boss fights, etc. - and most importantly like you said.. the atmosphere in DL1 feels like your just trying to survive in a dirty realistic scary place. DL2 feels like your in a goofy fantasy world with no real danger.

I think the fact that most players avoided the nighttime in DL1 is actually a really good sign that the developers actually made a good horror game, because then those moments in missions where night falls and you have no choice to but to navigate to safety in the dark are that much better and thrilling. I didn't play DL2, but I watched my friend complete it. One of the things that always stood out to me in DL1 was how much Crain (Crane?) moved around during dialogue. It felt like you were watching a movie from a first-person perspective. He moves his hands, shakes his head, and walks around while talking. Aiden, by contrast, barely moves when he talks.
@darkconch52442 жыл бұрын
Aiden also has literally no personality, Crane always seemed like a guy trying to get through a tough time while Aiden sounds like an AI generated script. Aiden is also an incredibly passive character, he does nothing but get told what to do and it miraculously leads him to his shallow goal of finding his sister, Crane was kinda the same for like the first half of the game until he started making his own decisions instead of getting told to do shit by Lawan, he straight up told Rais to go fuck himself and did the same for the GRE. Aiden on the other hand is buddy buddy with Hakon until the game is like “Oh no, Hakon bad now, so now your friends with Lawan, the person who just tried to kill you because Aiden is a complete tool.” It’s not like the story of Og Dying Light is good, it’s mostly just mediocre but Dying Light wasn’t sold on its campaign. Dying Light 2 was sold on its campaign and the ability to decide the fate of the city, but the only choice is just let the city get destroyed or save it, no other decision in the game really means anything, saving your sister in the end also doesn’t mean anything cause the game does nothing to make me care, in order for me to care about Mia I have to care about Aiden and I don’t care about someone who has no personality or really human attributes beyond occasionally pissed off or screw Jack Matt or the main villian (I forget his name) is bad cause he steal sister even though I’m completely deluded and that’s not even true. Honestly why even give Aiden and backstory it does nothing for the story other than save Mia or save Lawan aka save a completely hollow character who dies immediately anyway making your decision completely pointless in that regard or save Aidens commander since Aiden never has a sentient thought throughout the entire campaign. If they wanted to make the campaign interesting go the Fallout: New Vegas route or making your character basically a complete nobody, then Aiden having no personality would actually work because one could be grafted onto him, also get rid of Lawan or at least re write her to more of be a companion instead of your brain, give Aiden a meaningful choice beyond the end of the game, like allowing him to full on join a faction or eradicate a faction, and add more factions, seriously why is there only two in this game, neither of them do anything beyond gameplay anyway except for the ending. These changes would at least make the game a little more interesting. I like doing something in the zombie apocalypse while in this nothing I choose really matters until the end of the game which is fine but why are there so many decisions if none of them really amount to anything major beyond small story beats. Anyway this game is buggy as hell too, just don’t buy it. I bought the full game and finished it, still regret it because of how shallow of an experience it was, don’t market your game on its story when the story is complete garbage, parkour is fun though but that’s the only redeeming factor.

Techland kinda also shot themselves in the foot narrative wise for future installments of the series assuming DL2 has done well enough to warrant them; by having the apocalypse happen and a "last city on Earth" be instilled, there's not really any opportunity to create new stories also taking in consideration the quite large time gap between the first and second games. Had they have gone with the approach the Dead Rising franchise took with creating setups for installments where the Harran virus was only ever good at infecting one place at a time similar to Dead Rising's zombie outbreaks in that each would be small, contained phenomena that inevitably get quarantined and sealed off from the rest of the world, inevitably get abandoned or destroyed by firebombing to contain the parasite/virus respectively and then the whole world moves on with their lives after the end of the outbreak then maybe we'd be seeing Dying Light 3 and so on.

For real. The ability to repair weapons gave you more incentive to hunt down Legendary and Epic weapons, since, in addition to being stronger, they could also be repaired more times. Shit was downright wacky that you could only “repair” weapons in DL2 by modding them, and that would only give them a pathetic +50 to durability, which isn’t even a quarter of their total on most weapons past the beginning. So you don’t want to mod them right away, since then you lose out on total usage, but you also don’t want to mod them when they’re about to break, because that limits the use you get out of the mod. So you’re in this awkward shuffle of using your weapon for about ten swings, modding it, and then using it for another ten swings, rinse and repeat until you run out of mod slots.

Hi, current patch Any% speedrun world record holder here. Not because I'm good or better than other runners, but because nobody else kept trying to speedrun it. Let me explain. In Dying Light 1, there's a few bugs and movement tech options that Techland knows about but has never touched because they don't affect regular gameplay and make the speedrun more fun and interesting. In Dying Light 2, every bug or interesting speedrun route was specifically targeted by the team to prevent people from using them or going down the same paths; going so far as to add barbed wire and "out of bounds" areas to prevent tricks that speedrunners would use. One of the most heinous is that, during the first travel to the hopsital with Hakon where he kicks down the ladder to help you climb up, there was a way to skip the ladder and talk with Hakon at the top. The game didn't break, it didn't cause issues, it just let you skip a small climbing sequence and some dialogue. And Techland made the top of the building "leaving mission area" until the ladder was kicked down. And this is only one of dozens of changes Techland did to make speedrunning worse, and completely killed all trust or good will the speedrunning community had for them. They specifically removed tricks that ONLY speedrunners knew or used about, clearly using our original runs (before we opened up the leaderboard to allow time for bugfixes and major patches) in order to target the runs specifically. I'm not exaggerating when I say they killed their own speedrunning community by targeting them. It's really sad.

Techland seems desperate to ‘balance’ dl2 regardless of whether it’s at the cost of player fun. Idk much about the speedrunning side of dl, but the korek was a good example of annoying balancing. It was OP as hell, but it was so fucking fun to use anything I wanted whenever I wanted. Then they broke it by charging 800 scrap. Who cares if it’s fun? It’s gotta be grindy like everything else. Then there was the airdrop nerf too, so for a while, it was impossible to get proper weapons above level 6. Then the goddamn mission boundaries and shit too. Techland seems so out of it, there’s been months of criticism which techland just seems to ignore. Doesn’t feel like techland are the same team responsible for dl1 anymore. Even dl1 had a pretty dogshit sendoff around dl2’s launch. I’ve lost most hope at this point.

The voice actor for Kyle did an amazing job, I can still hear his cry of desparation when he kills Rahim. When after jade dies, you no longer hear her warning you about the night and all you have is the beep of your watch, really leaves a void not just in the storyline but in the regular free roam gameplay. Sure some of the quests were kind of meh and the pacing was questionable but it really made you care for the people in the tower. @Rosie DL1 has the worst story in gaming dude. Just some examples off the top of my head: Crane's disappearing antizin vial. Where'd it go? He stashes it during the first night run and never uses it. Would've been perfect to save himself and Jade. Rais' absolutely braindead obsession with Crane and the logic he applied. He keeps going back on his word to give Crane antizin because he doesn't want Crane to obey, then gives him another mission and forces obedience. Another example is his unwillingness to kill Crane every one of the dozen times he could have. He wanted to when he threw him in the pit, so why not just kill him while Crane was unconscious? But okay, maybe he wanted to amuse himself. But that's clearly not a factor anymore once Crane chops his hand off, because he then tells his men to open fire although he conveniently waits until Crane has the high ground and Zere's research for the plot to continue. Clearly he now wants Crane dead, right? Apparently not, because when Crane is literally a doomed man because his antizin magically disappeared due to earlier braindead writing, he... Gives him antizin? Why...? He's literally got him pinned with a dozen gunmen and doesn't even need them because Crane is seconds away from turning by himself, and then he saves him? Absolutely nonsensical. Worst plot writing ever. And it doesn't end there. How about those firebombs? Remember when you set off that pattern explosion to prove there's still survivors in the quarantine zone? The ministry sends its bombers to break that building, and they happily oblige. Then later when they are about to blow the city, Crane reaches out to them and says there's still survivors in Harran, causing sudden surprise and making them rebel against their orders. What?! They literally already knew there were still survivors left! They were happy to cover it up in fact! Even if they weren't the same pilots, such things go around. It'd be a well known fact for them. Why are they suddenly so shocked? I could go on. DL1 is the worst written game I've ever played. It's okay because the combat and parkour was awesome, but even though DL2's story was mid and far from what was promised, by virtue of being mid it is leagues ahead of the first game.

@Rosie ''and the missions diversify after a while (good grappling hook, etc) the environment become adapted to the parkour you've build up after a while and still looks good like a real city'' I literally thought you were talking about DL2 until I read your comment again. How does what you say not apply to DL2 also? And as a matter of fact, DL1 is the one that never adapts to your grappling hook since it is a gameplay element rather than a story one. You get it from Survivor level 12 and max it out at max Survivor level. It isn't a story thing and has zero effect on it. The parkour doesn't adapt at all, you can do everything with basic survivor level and no tools, whereas it does in DL2 where you need the grappling hook and paraglider for multiple setpieces. So I don't understand what you mean DL1 adapted the environment as you went on. It didn't. DL2 did. No offense, but this is exactly what I meant to illustrate with my first comment as well. That people have rose-tinted goggles when it comes to the first game. You are literally mistaking the accolades of DL2 for those of DL1. You are praising DL1 for something it didn't do while DL2 did, and criticising DL2 for something DL2 didn't do but DL1 did. Hilarious.

@@TheStraightestWhitest dude you can't be taken seriously when you deliberately get Story elements wrong. The GRE didn't stop because "survivors were in harran" but that Crane had Zeres cure in development. That's first. Second, Rais and his contradictions are him trying to get Crane to think for himself which comes forward WITH that ending, because he tells the GRE that they do what HE says now or he'll reveal they started the virus. The paragliding is an idiotic addition as it removes a lot of the actual fear in this series. The grappling hook is such an abysmal downgrade from DL1 its embarrassing. The OG grapple hook was made mostly to improve the parkour and give you the feeling of being Pseudo-Spider-Man. The New one is a rope that you swing from that you can only climb up not even halfway up the length of the rope. DL2s is absolutely pathetic is every way compared to the first, in all ways but a few gameplay mechanics and if you used basic objective research, you would understand it, but you have something I call, poison tinted glasses, because you hated it yourself, you can't get passed your own problems with it to look on an objective ground comparing the two games, and call anyone who actually sees its a better game with better writing people who "are wearing rose tinted glasses."

It itself isn't difficult once you know what you're doing, but very few people do in the real world, more so in a fictional apocalypse. Hence making yourself a target in various ways if you do know. Regardless of that, even if you make ammunition you still need to store it, maintain it, and use it. God forbid you tried using dodgy ammo for a DIY gun you're not sure is designed to fit the caliber or even robust enough to use in the first place. So many things can go wrong, especially when there's no access to precision equipment used to make this type of stuff or standardisation. Imagine buying ammo and its all different calibers or some are duds cause it doesn't have enough gunpowder. Ontop of all that, in both DL games it attracts zombies. With this many potential downsides, there's understandably not really a demand nor interest in ammunition except for the massive cache potentially hidden by the colonel (because its all stored properly and standardised quality to a point that they're actukaly useful).

I thought it to be a retarded attempt an excuse to disallow the usage of firearms throughout DL2 - claiming the military confiscated weapons and ammunition to use them in battle against the infected, only to then run out of ammunition and see most of the city become overrun due to a lack of defense. That was nothing more than trash writing - would have been much smarter for them to overhaul the infrastructure of the city in the time of world-wide infection for the production of only basic goods, and direct it more so toward ammunition and weapon production, along with arming the populace to ensure they were able to defend themselves in the event the military efforts would fail, or to allow the military to conscript and obfuscate the need for providing weapons and ammunition - just saying "hey grab your gun and head to the training officer" and getting a new recruit. That also would have allowed them to perpetually defend the city from the onslaught of the infected hordes without a fear of running out of ammunition for an extended period of time - perhaps even allowing them to endure and remain a fully functioning city all the up until the events of DL2 came to pass. The disarming of the populace angle was nothing more than retardation to force the removal of guns from the player - that served for nothing other than removal of an entire play-style for no reason, and undermining the quality of their own game through the matters of both lore and world building, too.

Dying light 2 is soooooo much better than dying light 1. The first game is dumb because you’re not supposed to fight, you’re just supposed to run, you’re punished for using weapons because they break after like 10 hits and then can only be repaired like 2 times. Weapon mods were useless because they were rare and once your weapon broke that’s it, it’s completely gone. Every weapon up until the last act of the game just tickles the normal zombies and don’t even try to take on raiders either cause you and your puny weapons won’t be strong enough until the story says so. Guns just completely ruin the combat, well I guess not ruin but actually give you a fighting chance, but one that absolutely isn’t fun. What I mean by ruin is they make melee weapons completely obsolete. Also once guns are introduced they are placed everywhere and you’re given bountiful amounts of ammo from the many raiders who all also have guns and bunches of ammo. Why use melee when you have an entire inventory of ARs and 1000s of rounds of ammo and are also one of the only weapons that actually give you a fighting chance. Side missions are completely boring, mostly consisting of fetch quests like the one where you have to steal pills from a mentally ill person. None of them are even worth it either as all they give is money which you can spend on weapons that again, will break after like 10 hits and can only be repaired 2 or 3 times, or they will just give you yet again another mediocre weapon, or weapon mod that will vanish once you’ve used your 20 hit total weapon. The story is so predictable and anticlimactic, the final mission is tedious as hell, making you do all sorts of sketchy and weird parkour moves while trying to avoid a shit ton of zombies, after all the awkward parkour segments you get to the climax of the game where you kill off the main bad guy in a QTE and that’s it, no boss fight, no nothing, then the game just ends, very anticlimactically. There just isn’t much to like about the first game, the story wasn’t all that compelling, it ended kinda shitty, and even after all of that the efforts of the main protagonist are obviously useless cause at the end of the day humanity falls to zombies anyways. the parkour was pretty good and is what kept me playing to the end despite all my complaints about it. Dying light 2 fixing literally all of that, weapons do damage, you can choose to either fight OR run, not just run, combat is better, the gore is better, they removed guns completely, story is much better and has replay ability because of the 7 different endings that exist, the parkour is 100x better, the side missions actually are good and feel connected to the story other than just being boring fetch quests. To me it’s just all around a better game.

I'm currently doing a second playthrough of DL2. And man, can I not stand how fictional it feels. It's a nitpick, but there's fucking after effects on regular, unmodified weapons. Actual swinging after effects. The HP bars are distracting, the fact the infected no longer scale with story progression is disheartening, there's no real reason to do any side activities if it weren't for the fact that some of them, GRE buildings and Anomalies, are required to be able to upgrade your skill tree, which feels extremely artificial this time around. The parkour is clunky, and there's no dedicated sprint button, which means Aiden is just casually jogging everywhere. There's obviously working cars, so why the hell can't we have one? There's no actual world changing decisions as were promised outside of deciding who gets a specific water tower or electrical plant. Aiden is supposedly stronger, faster and more durable than everyone else, but he literally gets punched in every cutscene leading up to a fight. The antagonists aren't even a sixteenth as threatening or intimidating as Rais and his gang. Waltz is just kind of there most of the time, I will admit, though, seeing him beat the hell out of Aitor and his men like they were nothing was very scary. But the Renegades. What the hell are you doing with theirr voices? It's so bad that when I first heard one of them, I had to actually pause the game so I could take time to cringe at the generic evil mean Saturday morning cartoon villain voice I heard. It was like Taz from the Looney Tunes meets Vaudeville. Aiden sound like just a depressed Kyle Crane. The "good guys" (Survivors) and "bad guys" (Peacekeepers) seem to not have gotten the memo of how their stereotypes are supposed to act. No "good guy" ever treats you nicely unless it solely benefits them, and no "bad guy" ever tries to kill you unless you actively provoke them. Nothing about Aiden's backstory is interesting, so why did they feel the need to include so many pointless, mind numbingly boring flashbacks? And it turns out that none of what Aiden remembers is fucking real. And, I probably state the obvious here, but in no reality should I see the words "Leaving Mission Area" in a game that was and still is heavily advertised as free roam, open world. Because that's saying "Sure, go on and explore freely... The linear progression of areas dictated by the half-baked narrative. Any farther than the very small boundaries isn't allowed and you will be killed if you stay there longer than 5 seconds."

Something that frustrates me about dying light 2 is that they mislead the player as to what story they are going to be told. many lines or plot threads seem to point in completely different directions and when you see the direction the game actually wants to take it’s so much less than what you were being primed for. Just as an example the original attempt on the VNC Tower and the night Runner organization as a whole. From the way the game focuses on the night runners and the former members of the night runners you would think that they would make the night runners a part of the story but they are mentioned a couple of times and then forgotten about until the very end of the game almost like they actually forgot about them. When the other night runners that we have been told about just showed up as if they just solved their differences off camera I was very disappointed I as the player served no part in getting those people on my side and convincing them to help. It really felt like a lot of the plot was gutted and have backed shitty patch jobs were filled in the gaps. I was waiting the entire game for a quest line of rebuilding the night runner brotherhood and using them to find Waltz. By the time I beat the game I feel like the games story never even really truly got off the ground. I was going through the game not paying attention to how long I was spending playing it and I kept thinking OK the story is going to pick up at some point but right as I thought the story was picking up the credits roll. Couple that with the sensory overload of random pointless things to do the lack of funny or clever Easter eggs and the absolutely neutered night and horde systems, The game just isn’t fun for me. With the first game I chased that feeling of being hunted that the original cinematic trailer for the game gave off, in practice the game has its moments but I was hoping that the sequel would improve upon that only to discover a night that looks more like twilight and all of the risk and danger removed. All they had to do to make the infection work was keep everything the same about the zombies except them going inside during the day and coming outside during the night, then give the volatiles enough speed to hunt down the player. It should require expert level parkour skills and understanding to successfully escape a volatile on your tail. All I have to do in either game is climb to the roof and then run around the corner. I have to go out of my way to let a chase continue I very rarely feel like I’ve truly “escaped” a chase. I want that white knuckle pulse pounding feeling that you see in the run boy run trailer where you don’t have time to look around or think it is simply instinct an action or die. The just had to make the volatiles faster but they practically took them out of the game.

Boot to the head! ._ Five stars would play with grandson again. The other was learning that the craftable fast-running potion allowed me to outrun the night stalkers. And the craftable see-everything potion allowed me to see where I was going while running fast, so I'd just make sure by day I had enough juice to do laps around the level and I would. I hit the level cap just doing crap and got bored with the story once I had to start dealing with the gangs of evil. For example people hated the fog that appears around the map after you do the Veronika mission and since people didn't like it they fixed it (except for the main one at the vnc tower cause it's gotta be there) and it's clear they aren't gonna just drop the game, they've announced a ton of new content in the works for the game, new multiplayer modes are confirmed, be the zombie is likely one of them since techland actually listens to the community and knows people really want it back, other pvp and pve modes are being worked on although we don't know what they'll be just that they're doing them, more night runner content, we know we're getting more then one major DLC so thats gonna be huge, and more stuff that is being worked on aswell. I very rarely see a dev studio that has made reworks to a game involving cutscenes, music, and missions and the story itself and actually puts the effort and MONEY into a game that they could have just said "yep we made good money now let's move on", there was that one mmo and then no man's sky which did this but those are the only other two I can think of

@@attackcrash655 unless they completely rewrite the story and make the choices actually matter and not be a dumb black and white thing with cartoon villains, then the game is lost- quality-of-life updates don't stop the core game, especially story-wise, from being complete and utter shit. Reminder that the story, life-changing choices and moral ambiguity was the selling point of the game, which is all gone.

The fight in dying light 2 where the guy is holding the door and you get saved by the lights. I laughed very hard when I played that mission since I didn't actually need to be saved I killed all the zombies as they came

I remember hearing about dying light back when it came out, and i did not have a pc good enough to play it as a teenager, and i only played it on my friend's computer together. Soon it's going to be 3 years since he passed away, i still enjoy dl1 a lot and for me it will always bring up good memories. Gameplay is awesome too.

To me the biggest crimes of the game was them advertising a game we didn't get in both look/feel and "choices". After they went dark from the 2018/2019 media hype with Avellone, they came back and never said "hey, here's an update on the game to what has changed", and they kept heavily promoting the "choices matter like no other game before". One could see the art/look of the game was somewhat different than before in the small snippets they gave, but all I could conclude was we are possibly seing the game at a different time of the story, because those first trailers showed your choices drastically affecting the look of the world. They needed to refine their formula for the first game, and instead decided to just bite off way more than they could chew and go super ambitious which was their undoing. This game (similar to the first, but worse) reeks of half finished all over the place. In both games you can see way more detail and completion in the first acts, and then the rest feels like copy paste rush job without as much fleshed out, like they got bogged down and then rushed to the deadline. At least the firstnwas playable qt launch, DL2 was a cluster F even after multiple delays. At this point, DL2 isn't a bad game, the core mechanics and special events are fun, the same stuff that kept the first going. I just wish they hadn't BS'd it so much because (like Cyberpunk) all I can see is a game that isn't what it promised to be.

06:45 Fun fact, the actor voicing and being the model for Hakon is an actual real life yamakazi who brought the parkour in the early 2000's. If you think he does impossible moves in game, watch the intro sequence of "Banlieue 13" a movie from 20 years ago, and be amazed. Oh he also is the stunt director from both dying light games :)

What made me upset was that the idea they tell you of in that opening cutscene and stage is SO MUCH BETTER of a game concept. Being a pilgrim that has to use their wits and parkour skills and crafting skills to make what they need to go from settlement to settlement, bearing hate or desperation everywhere you go to keep the world connected as the worlds most bad ass postman was such a cool idea they toss up, then just go, oh yeah your in a big city with walls again go have fun. It made me sad that their back story is like the natural evolution to the games base concept. But they immediately went back to stomped ground. Could you imagine trying ti find the safe routes to new towns, some times putting yourself at the risk that, maybe you wont be able to make a safe place by night, and now you have to stealth or run you way to a safety that may not be out there nearby. Slowly making some routes safe by building up safe houses and so on. Instead its just the original game with worse story, jankier controls, and way more bugs. And a faction system that many hours in so far barely effects anything other than trying to make you feel bad for every choice you make. While having people all act like massive dick bags to you for being a pilgrim, even after you like, save their children 20 times over.

I like your idea, then establishing nightrunner bases in new towns, training them. The story should have been about that. Still i think the story in dl2 up to vnc tower has balls and is much better then the one in dl1. Combat i liked in first more, parkour and level design i like in the second more. The dropkick is so much fun to use in the first game.

The story sucks because Chris Avelone (famous writer of Fallout 1&2, Planescape Torment) had a jilted lover who was never raised to handle relationships privately. Lying about some stuff he did. Because Techland wanted to virtual signal before the facts were clear, they fired him and rewrote the whole story in like... a week.

I have a complaint about dying light 2 that I don't think I've heard very often and it's the fact that in dying light 2 I can never fucking tell where I am or where I'm going. In dying light one the old town, the starting map and the countryside were all very easy to orient yourself in. I remember most of the first map like the back of my hand and I feel like it's because most areas had a large defining structure you could orient yourself around like the bridge or the tower but it extends further than that, like changes in building structure that can help you figure out which part of the city you're in. Villedor doesn't have this and it pisses me off and leaves me looking at the map every 10 minutes to figure out what the hell happened.
@Femtos2 жыл бұрын
Because the whole damn game is copy pasted to hell and back with maybe a few unique landmarks. You can paraglide about and not be able to tell what zone you just entered because everything looks the bloody same!
@sp3kt3r2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, I was able to walk/run through the map without having to open the map view. DL2 is just copy and paste of multiple environment to a point that I'm sometime wondering if I just came back from here ? Also my biggest complaint is WHY they make it a FAR CRY game ! I played enough far cry that I don't need another game that requires unlocking settlement/tower to unlock the map etc... we didn't have that in DL1.. if people like that kind of stuff, stick with FAR CRy !!! Also the upgrade skill are boing and repetitive compared to DL1. They focused too much on parkour quest and speaking of side quest... they are %#$@?@ STUPID !!! (DL1 has some boring quest) but in DL2 they made it WORST!!!!!! so grinding and so useless and way too much talking... most of the time I skip them and in DL1 I didn't skip a single one.
