As good as the Harrier was back in the day, the new generation of fighter jets dominate the older ones in air-to-air combat. But then again, the enemy might not have the latest tech or any aircraft at all so having a bit older planes certainly doesn't mean non-viable.
@kcimb6 жыл бұрын
Lawrence Nicholas Abbott Lawrence the f35 is currently stealth against current threats. How does a Harrier work better than that? Your logic is backwards. The f35 is super sonic, the harrier isn’t. The f35 is stealth against modern air defenses, the Harrier isn’t. The f35 can carry double the ordnance that the av8 can. The f35 is currently in production, the av8 isn’t. The f35 is a safer plane and can dog fight several times better than the Harrier. In order to get them back they would cost more than the f35s. They haven’t been made in a long time, starting up production is an expensive problem. The f35 is in service now and is actually flying combat missions in the Middle East, America, and japan. The f35 is a much safer plane than the harrier to fly, too. Without stealth the f35 is still better than the f16 and av8 combined. You are gonna have a hard time shoving 5th gen avionics and weapons into a 4th gen plane that’s been out of production for a long time.

@integral32gb8 жыл бұрын
Yeah the AIM9L all aspect IR missile really did shine in the Falklands. The FAA pilots were brave and skilled but just not that extra bit in ability vs the British pilots. Nice try fella but better luck next time, ahh no! there won't be a next time, with the modern comms intelligence going on now with the NSA and GCHQ the Brits will know if the Argies will try to attack the Falklands before the Argies Minister of Defence gets off the phone to his Chief of the Armed Forces. Just enough time for a Royal Navy cruise missile to fly thru the window of the Presidential palace office so ending the 'war' before it's started.

Throes, it's spelt 'throes'. Are you saying that a dead kingdom (ruled by a queen) twitched 42 years ago and crushed an army, navy , naval air force and an army air force, all at once? I'm certain that that is not what you mean to say.
