This was really problematic for me too. It is important for people to have their own moral compass, and we cannot push people to try to change their opinions and beliefs to fit a narrative because we want that to happen. Would it be nice if LGBTQ members were just allowed to BE and not have to fight for anything? Heck, yes, it would. However, we cannot force people to change their thoughts and beliefs because it feels good and would be nice. That's not how life works. This echo chamber belief system is a real issue.

I think it’s fine if he wants to live his life that way. That’s the point. Let people live their life the way they want. Preaching to a class that is likely half women who just busted their butts to get bachelors degrees that their only purpose is to be a mom or housewife is archaic and only works for some people. What is a women can’t get pregnant, does that make her less that useful.. it just creates a divisive environment and society to think this way

He should not be penalized it was an opinion. What I don't understand is many of us women always express the joy we feel after become a mother and a wife. Rhianna recently expressed similar sentiments so what is wrong with what he said? Is it because it was said by a man and not a woman?

That vocation he is talking about is their vow together aside from being a good husband and a wife, they will be foremost a better parent for their children. A husband whose role is to be active in his children's lives. So which wife will not agree to what he said?

@@TheBubblydimple By saying only SOME of the women will have successful careers in the world was wrong especially at their college graduation after they worked so hard for their education, saying that they have been given diabolical ideas was strange. He also took issue with IVF thinking none of the women or men in front of him will have problems with infertility. He made a decision to make a political/social commentary instead of making a straight forward speech for young people who are going into the world. He said more than what you choose to focus on.

Why can't somebody say something that you disagree with and your reply be - "hey, I don't like what he said and here is why". Then let it go! Actually I can tell by your reply you did not read what I said. I said it is perfectly OK to disagree with what somebody says. You can say you disagree and bring the reasons as to why they are wrong and you disagree with them. Nobody said you can't argue their point and tell others why this person is wrong. The bad happens when you go another step. The step where you start attacking the person, get others to attack them, gang up and attack their family and attack their employer, and try to get them fired. That is where it becomes wrong.

In marriage, your vocation is to be there for each other and that includes a vocation as a father and a mother to their kids. It works on both ways. Choosing to be a parent for their kids is a vocation. Just like for example, some chooses to be an independent woman can be considered a vocation that she sets out for herself to be.

In fact, he is very emotional in complementing his wife - A loving Mother and a supportive wife. Many Catholics are Catholics in name only, they could not even answer some basic questions. Even Catholic schools no longer resemble Catholic schools. It is better for those schools to remove the name Catholic.

@nicolewright8833 I just want to be clear. What he said, for me, was unacceptable, and I do not espouse nor support his thoughts and beliefs. I do, however, know that he was within his right to speak to an ultra Catholic religious institution in the way he chose to. I want the days back where we can have civil debates, meet in the middle on some things, and choose to still be true to what we value, regardless of what value system you believe, whilst trying to understand others.

I thought his speech was a brilliant pov. Maybe its not for everyone but there is nothing wrong with what he said. As a mature childless career first woman this message is not insulting at all. Ive missed out on a family and i do regret it. Im not miserable by any means but my own family would have meant so much more in the long run. As a side note...swifties, people who worship someone who has made a living writing about her bad choices in men are hardly the people you should be praising about their comments on a man.

Lol well I understand freedom of speech- but this was a commencement for graduation and it was completely inappropriate. He specifically addresses women who have spent lots of money, time and hard work to get a degree and he goes right into some of them may get successful careers, but their main role is to be a homemaker to her husband and children. While it is an important role if the woman so chooses, women can find fulfillment in things such as a career....I mean what would be the point of going to college and getting a degree in the first place?! All the topics he addressed were about his beliefs. He took the time that is supposed to be a celebration of their success, but he used it to make it about himself and bash every demographic along the way. WHAT does abortion rights, women being in the home, attacking LGBT+, and Biden HAVE to do with graduating with a degree?! His mom is a dang physicist at the Oncology/Radiology department at Emory and his sister is an OBGYN. Sounds like he has mommy issues and was taking it out on the women at the ceremony. She probably worked a lot and he wasn't happy about that.
