@@lindabb621 I spent a decade in North Carolina in my early career… in the 1970’s…as a local reporter covering the tiny, struggling Republicans in my county. It was some of the most rewarding, and fun, work in a very eclectic career. They were earnest, honest people…small business owners, a few local college teachers…and a county chairman who regarded me with suspicion initially because I was raised in Massachusetts, a red flag to him. They were middle aged then, so are no longer with us. Thank heaven, because the state of their party now would be heartbreaking to them.

I’ve been doing this for 24 years - side gig, so it’s not like anyone would know who the hell worthless little ol’ me is… but my point is, I’d like to think I have some vague clue what I’m talking about. And Tim Alberta is absolutely correct. Shapiro is the LAST person Trump wants to see selected as VP. I new poll from PA has Harris down 2%. PA had become Biden’s worst state in the Rust Belt. This same poll had him down 7%, I think. Biden didn’t even need ANY of the Sun Belt battlegrounds. Win the Rust Belt and he has sufficient electoral votes. The polling was close in Michigan and super close in Wisconsin. It was Pennsylvania that was the stake in the heart for Biden. It wasn’t that close anymore. Now? Harris down only 2%… in a poll which certainly doesn’t appear to be Dem-friendly, given how badly Biden polled? THEN if Harris selects Shapiro? This race is, now - if it’s Shapiro - effectively a toss-up. Harris might actually have a slim advantage in the three Rust Belt states. So, you could argue that she has the advantage overall. But given how close those three states are, and the fact that Harris can’t afford to lose any, you could argue that Trump is still favored. It’s close. It’s a toss-up. And, given where we’re coming from, that’s bad for Trump. So, Shapiro is, hands down, Trump’s worst VP nightmare.
