Wonderful! I grew up watching Harry in the broadcast booth. How fantastic the tradition of the 7th Inning Stretch is carried on by so many!

When Major League Baseball replaced the Traditional American "Take me out to the ballgame" with "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretches in ballparks across America after 9/11..... The Terrorists won.

HORRID!
@russs75743 жыл бұрын
Excuse me if I sound un-American, but as far as I'm concerned "God Bless America" sucks out loud, and I will not sing it at a ball game. When I hear it, all I can think of is that fat-ass Kate Smith singing it a Philadelphia Flyers games. F that. Give me Harry Caray and "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" anyday.

Harry Carry vs. Bob Uecker. Harry will always hit a home run with us Chicagoans. Forget "Mr. Baseball", let the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers love Bob Uecker. Screw Uecker, he won a world series for STL.

Harry was doing this in St. Louis for 26 years until he made his move on Gussy Busch's wife (or daughter-in-law, we never will know for sure), and based on that he was fired to end the 1960s. So by serendipitous fate, the vagabond made it to Wrigley. He broadcast three World Series appearances for the Cardinals (64, 67, and 68). But because of his philanderous ways, he missed out on three more World Series appearances for the Cardinals in the 1980s. I often wondered if he believed he found a better path in life with a much larger city with a perennially losing team .... until long after he died.

Dov BarLeib Well, a few of Harry's family said his heart was always in Chicago and was one of the reasons he chose to go to the south side instead of KC, Georgia, and Ohio. Also, Chip said Harry was always a Cubs fan along with the family. Anyway, the folks in Missouri don't compare to those in North side of Chicago. We're more like Harry. Same could be said about the South side of Chicago. If it wasn't for our truly own Brickhouse, Harry would have been in the North Side since day one. He always looked more comfortable in Wrigley Field.

Harry "followed the money" to Wrigley Field and the Cubs.

No... The tradition started with Harry Caray; he just happened to work for the White Sox at the time.

There's a rumor that then White Sox owner Bill Veeck put a mike in Harry's booth and opened it during the 7th inning stretch when he was caught sing the song.
@Mr-Trox3 жыл бұрын
@@rockvilleraven That's actual fact as far as I know. Bill had tried to get Harry to sing it to stadium before, since with his voice they would sing along as opposed to sit and listen. It took a PA microphone planted in the booth during the stretch to get him to agree, as the crowd sang along with him.
