I hope you enjoyed this video with Harry Clarke who was on the list of frequently requested masters. Unfortunately, there is a misspelling of his name in a few of the slides, please forgive this. Also, let me know in the comments if you are interested in a James Jean feature in the future.

Absolutely exquisite. I love your studies of Clarke’s work and how you integrated his pattern work into your own. It was also interesting to me that he worked in stained glass and that you kept this in mind as you were working. Great , great content. I’m getting out my pens tonight. So inspiring. Thank you.

I'm so happy to hear that you're inspired to get the pens out after watching one of my videos. It was super exciting to do this master study, I would never have thought of practicing Harry Clarke without the suggestions of this community. Have fun tonight!

I was not really familiar with either Clarke or Jean, I like Clarke a lot though, and I think you're probably right about the influence on Jean. I love your two sword dance! I am especially fond of the background work with the combination of solid blacks for the trees and the linework behind them, it is just gorgeous and really compliments the incredible figure drawing, and manages to avoid competing with the incredible complicated hair's directional chaos. Simple, clever, and really effective. I'm so inspired!

Thanks for your kind words! I aimed to mimic the Clarke-isms 😅

I saw the finished dancer drawing in the newsletter (missing from this video 😞) and I was truly entranced by his grace and elegance . A very beautiful drawing, congratulations. And thanks for making me discover the great Harry Clarke! Yet another session of online sleuthing for the perfect, best but affordable book about a pen artist... 🙄

This was great, I didn't know about Clarke. Thank you for the explanations of his style, it makes it more clear to my muddled brain. You made a quick mention of patterns in the grass; van Gogh . . . so much to say, but you might be interested in his sketches. They're great fun to try to copy. Thanks again

I'm glad that you enjoyed the Clarke video. There have been mentions of Van Gogh in previous comments and he was certainly an influence on many after him (and on my list). Thanks!

Hi Chloe and thanks for the video. I have come across Harry Clarke before so it is good to hear your thoughts on him and to see your interpretation of his work which I found delightful. I see you are also a follower of Pete Beard. Like yourself another channel I always look forward to seeing. I don't know if you remember but a while back I mentioned that here in Britain we have an online arts collage, the Open Collage of the Arts. Well I finally got sorted out and I start studying with them next month. I am doing a BA in Drawing.

Explore Aubrey Beardsley’s Art Style -- if anyone is interested: Aubrey Beardsley’s illustrations are a masterclass in bold contrasts and intricate detail. Known for his whimsical and provocative themes, his work blends fine calligraphic lines and elaborate patterns with striking black-and-white compositions. Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints and the Pre-Raphaelites. Art that invites you into a world that is both ornate and subversive.

That's a great observation, and it's likely that most of the ink work we admire today was influenced by the early 20th century artists (esp. with engraving backgrounds).

Clark with an e is the Irish way of spelling the name where as the English way is minus the e. Also happens with the surnames, Hayes and Dunne for example.
