Sebastian Mancilla I remember watching a video where some guy was trying to find out what Dudley saw when the dementor attacked him, Since he didn’t have much traumatizing experiences since he was spoiled, he came to the conclusion that Dudley saw his treatment of Harry and how horrible it was all at once
@loganbigmo
@loganbigmo 6 жыл бұрын
Dudley _does_ remember what the Dementors did to him, that is why he stopped disliking/abusing Harry and was grateful. Because Dudley had no horrible memories to relive, when the Dementors attacked him, Dudley saw what others perceived of him, and realizing how horrible, spoiled, ungrateful and abusive he was. Making it an eye-opener for him, and why he changed the way he behaved from that point on, hence why Harry, Ginny & their kids went over to Dudley's house as adults.
@knuckle-sandwichmma681

I heard that the reason he started acting so neutral almost kind to Harry was because when the dementor started sucking his soul out Dudley saw what an asshole of a human being he was, that changed him.

Yeah, in the book Dudley says, "I don't think you're a waste of space" and even goes further to say, "you saved my life". Dudley definitely recognizes and remembers what Harry did for him. Harry even says to Dudley's comment, "Yeah but coming from Dudley, that means, "I love you."

+kmugz88 he clearly says "This isn't goodbye, this is farewell." And farewell is something you say to someone you'll never see again ~ that's the context of it. But I do agree with Ryguy621 though bc I did sense a hint of awkwardness in Vernon. I think their relationship was of the love/hate kind, and even though Vernon was mean to Harry, he most likely still cared for and maybe even loved him deep down inside!

In the book, Vernon actually is more warmer to Harry in this moment, because he too even begins to realize the amount of danger he could be in.. It was a real great redeeming moment for Vernon.. too bad it was left out of this movie..
@Eternaldarkness3166
@Eternaldarkness3166 8 жыл бұрын
Ryguy621 That's why I like the movies for certain parts and the books for others, like.. when I first read the books, some of the names I never knew how to pronounce, the movies helped me with that, and even though I do have a good imagination, it's nice seeing a visual on what the movies think they should look like vs what you think.. Some of the parts, like In Harry 5 when Harry was yelling at Ron and H. in Ron's home before his brothers appear, it was far more intense and dramatic, and there would have been a lot more battle scenes I would have liked to have seen.. also.. in number 4.. Movie.. it would have been cool if they showed the whole Q. Match instead of just the beginning.. and as movies go, I would have rather had them put Harry and H. together.. In the books it makes more sense who they end up with because it's more fleshed out, but in the movies, it was more like an after thought.. it would have made more sense doing it that way, but one of the times I really enjoy both the books and the movies, they each bring something different then the other.. and I always have the books to go back to if I truly want the original source material again..

tbh I don't think they made a mistake by deleting them. Don't get me wrong, I like the scenes... but they feel way out of character. Throughout all the other movies all of the Dursleys have been nothing but jerks towards Harry, but now they're suddenly not, because... reasons? If there were other scenes in the past movies showing some kind of growth of their characters, maybe these would be a good way to finish their "redemption arc", but without such scenes they feel very forced. I've read the books, but it was a very long time ago, so I don't really remember if there was any character growth for the Dursleys in them, but my guess is that there probably was, at least to some extent. However, since nothing of that made it to the previous movies, I guess the director's choice was to leave these scenes out as well.

That's usually how it is in real life. One of my best friends now is someone I HATED in high school. But then you grow up and none of that crap matters. That's why I like Cobra Kai so much. All the bully characters from the Karate Kid movies are the best characters in the show. They can still be jerks but they're basically Daniel's bros now. Because they grew up. The real bad guys are the ones who were villains and didn't have any more real growing up to do. And even then, you get the sense that there's hope for them..

@@windlife the evidence is that McGonagall said at the beginning of book 1 that the Dursleys were horrible people, so they were that way before Harry was in the picture. Dumbledore also stated in book 5 I think, that he knew the Dursleys would treat him badly but didn't have a choice but to leave Harry with them. Dumbledore had no idea that horcruxes could make people behave differently so it implies he knew the Dursleys were bad as well. Furthermore, Ron in particular spent almost the entirety of those 7 years with Harry. They slept in adjacents beds, followed the same courses and even spent summers together. That's almost as much time as he spent with the Dursleyes, so any effects would have long shown themselves - considering the locket made people crazy within hours. Like I get what you're trying to say, but unfortunately that theory has little substance.

Im ok with all of these being cut out EXCEPT the scene with Dudley...WHY?!?! So much character development in those first few seconds when he doesn't immediately get in the car after Vernon tells him to. He slowly walks over and, with virtually 1 sentence, states he accepts him as a family member. I dont need a cheesy cliche like "I've always loved you" or anything. Just KNOWING Dudley chooses to acknowledge him after all the shit he put him through, was brilliant, and ill never understand why they cut that out. p.s. @@taekait honestly while that scene could've been left in I think the movies have far greater issues. Like how everyone can fly with those light/dark shadows while doing so. In the books it's stated that flying is an exceptionally rare skill. Or the elephant in the room: the ending. The entire damn point was that Voldemort was supposed to die just like any other human, and in front of the whole school. This had 2 implications: 1. he died just as he feared: a basic Avada death, like everyone else. No fancy disintegration and no fancy lights, he wasn't as special as he thought he was. 2. the body he left behind was a testament that this time he's actually gone, he didn't disappear like before, and everyone saw it happening. No more coming back this time. But of course, the movies had to ruin that entire idea for effects which catch the eye. Pretty pathetic.

Completely understand why everyone's gushing about Dudley & Harry's last line to each other, BUT... to me, the most impactful part of that scene is earlier: "Isn't he coming with us?" "Who?" First of all, who else is there? There's nobody else Dudley could be referring to, yet Harry is so unwanted by Vernon, he's spent so long ignoring him & pretending he's invisible, that the moment he turns around Harry ceases to exist for him. BUT THEN - Dudley responds: "Harry." Just the way he says his name tells you instantly that he's changed. He says Harry's name the way Ron says it, or Dean, or Cedric - there's *SO MUCH* in his tone of voice with that single word. Then he does it again! Vernon answers, "Absolutely not!" "Why?" That simple, genuine, immediate question. It shows acceptance before he ever takes a step towards Harry, and concern for his cousin - if it's so dangerous that we have to leave, why aren't we bringing Harry? I just can't get over how *good* those moments are, how *well* those two, simple, one-word lines are delivered. Just absolutely brilliant.

Everyone is talking about the first two, and yeah, they're pretty important. But the one that really NEEDED to be in there was the one between Ron and Hermione playing with the rocks. It added levity to the really dark tone of the movie AND it showed that they too could have fun like Hermione/Harry when they danced later on in the film. I love the Harry/Hermione dance scene...but it seemed off to some people that they shared that moment together when Hermione marries Ron in the end. The skipping rocks scene counterbalanced that, although it should have been edited for time.

I thought the biggest problem was that they just... well they cut the character of Voldemort. In the books, you clearly understand why he is the darkest wizard of all times. He is feared with a reason. And the film version... a silly snaky man, with no depth at all who's just fireing around avada kedavras, just like any other "dark wizard". Nothing special. Nothing I could probably fear in real life. But the book-Voldemort... an intelligent, manipulative, feared man. A man who have more lines than "avada kedavra". And let me remind you of the book ending, where he just died after Harry expose him in front of everyone. Like an ordinary human, not a magical creature that vanishes in the air. Its sad thought. He could have become the best villain of all times. Could.

Dudley was a child who's earliest memories were of watching his cousin being treated like garbage by his parents. This isn't uncommon in abusive families to have a golden child and a scapegoat. The golden child come stop fear being treated like the scapegoat, so participates in the abuse in order to stay in good standing with the abusive parents, mostly out of fear. There can be a lot of trauma for both children and Dudley showed unbelievable bravery being kind to Harry in front of Vernon and Petunia.

I can see why they deleted the second one. It's kind of clumsy and the acting isn't that great on Dudly's (I don't know the kid's actual name) part. That being said, I wish they had done another take or something and kept both the first and second scenes in. That was like, the *one* thing I wanted to see in this movie. Harry forgiving Dudly, and Dudly finally showing some form of kindness towards Harry was a very moving scene in the book. I always thought Harry would have one day went to go see Dudly. It's a shame it's not in the actual movie. A real shame

Moviefan2k4 Like I said to the other guy. It's the acting that's clumsy. As in, it's very unbalanced in this scene. Little bits of it are good, little bits of it are bad. Doesn't seem like they ever got a good take on this scene if this was the one they went with for the DVD

I guess including the pointless scene of Hermione wiping out her parents' memories was more important than to offer the dursleys, who have been in the series since the first movie 10 years before, some meesly character development and closure. If I were those actors I'd be pissed off, to be honest. Hermione could've simply told harry about what she had to do to her parents, and it would still be an emotional scene.

tbh I don't think they made a mistake by deleting them.

Dudley,” I don’t think that your a waste of space.” Harry,” see you Big D.” This was a touching moment, takes me back towards the first film, Dudley was always bullying Harry throughout the films, but I think that after saving his life in the order of the Phoenix, he had a change of heart, or this just the last team that they’ll see each other again, he felt that he was going to miss Harry.

Running time, more than likely. That's the #1 reason scenes are deleted to begin with. Theater owners want to show a movie as many times as possible per day, because it increases their profit. If a film's 3 or 4 hours long, that's less showing's every day.

I'm just glad ABC Family puts these scenes in when they show Harry Potter movies, but how's this for an option on a DVDS, you can watch the movie with the deleted scenes in their place if you want to. Cause those first two scenes just come to show that despite the hate they show towards Harry, the Vernons truly care about him. Minimal yet Powerful.

Remember we only saw what snape saw, we didn't see Lilly's or Petunia's own memories, which is nice. It keeps that bond between them and us left guessing. She probably resented harry because he is the reason for the death of her sister. Of course there was jealousy and bitterness and she was cruel sometimes, but that doesn't mean they didn't love each other.
