The books are souls wrenching. In many places. Especially as an adult. Certain things in YA hit so much harder as adults. I’d recommend them. Audiobooks if you don’t have the time to sit and read, literally, thousands of pages. Book vlogs might be nice too. For inspiration on the book vlog check out lynnmoore (spelling?). He does a great just reading and reading at the same time.

That was no assignment Draco had been given, it was death sentence. Voldemort never intended for Draco to succeed in killing Dumbledore, he didn't even expect him to survive. In fact he was intending for Draco to be killed int he process as punishment for Lucius failing to get the prophecy. What better punishment for Lucius than letting him know his blunder got his son killed?
@lechat8533Ай бұрын
* Draco isn`t crying because of the dead bird. He is crying because Harry found out that he poisoned the necklace and hexed Katie. He is afraid to fail in his mission. By that time, he had already failed twice to kill Dumbledore and he is afraid of Voldemort. Draco is under additional pressure because the Malfoy family is in Voldemort`s black books. After all, his father failed in his mission of providing Voldemort with Harry`s prophecy and got locked up in Azkaban because of what happened in "The Order Of The Phoenix". ** Snape to Dumbledore:" Has it ever crossed your brilliant mind that you ask too much, that I don`t want to do this anymore?" *** Snape took the unbreakable vow to protect Draco from becoming a killer. As soon as you kill a person your soul is damaged. Snape was a Death Eater and had already killed people. He had no other choice than to fulfil the "Unbreakable Vow". That was obvious from the moment we learned that Dreco had the mission to kill Dumbledore (with the poisoned necklace, Slughorn`s bottle of spirits, and finally by killing him with the Death Spell. **** Harry used the same spell from the Halfblood Prince`s book on Snape, that he had previously used on Draco. Harry: "Sectumsempra!" (Latin for as much as "Endless Cutting" or "Always Cutting") Snape: "You dare to use my own spells against me, Potter?" When he says that, it`s obvious that he is the Halfblood Prince.

Thanks for another pleasant reaction. In the books, many of Harry`s feelings are described in detail. We learn more about Harry`s inner world. Watching the movies one has to guess what exactly Harry is going through. At the end of every book, I cried my eyes out. Sirius`s and Dumbledore`s deaths are very painful. The empty space they leave behind is filled with utter despair and sadness.

This is Draco's film. This is his redemption arc, from his lowest point to his turning point. Draco is finally out from his father's influence. Lucius has finally faced justice, having been judged and sentenced to Azkaban (which actually may have saved his life; Voldy is deeply angry with Lucius). For Draco, he is furious that the Malfoy family is faced with scandal, his father now in prison, the family's social and political standing in ruins. And Draco blames Dumbledore and especially Harry. Turns out that Voldemort has moved into Malfoy Manor. Narcissa Black Malfoy, Draco's mother, knows full well the dangerous person Voldemort is, so plays it cool but extremely aware of what's happening. With Voldemort in his home, Draco is easily manipulated to become a Death Eater and take on special tasks issued directly by Voldemort. This is a fulfillment of the foreshadowing in the last film of Harry's dream of Voldemort on the train platform wearing Draco's clothing. The film opens in London, in the muggle world. Several Death Eaters tear across the sky in full muggle view, landing in Diagon Alley. They blow up the wand shop and kidnap Ollivander, pausing only long enough to destroy the Millenium Bridge across the Thames. Voldemort needs Ollivander's knowledge of wandlore to work out how Voldy can find a wand to kill Harry with; Ollivander is imprisoned in the Malfoy cellar where the Cruciatus Curse is used to pry wandlore information out of him. The 'blood' is actually a plant resin known as dragon's blood. (The first film, the chocolate frog trading card noted that Dumbledore was an expert on the use of dragon's blood.) Dragon's blood is a real thing found in the real world, with a history of its practical and magical uses. Dragon's blood is a nontoxic preservative, used in the ancient world to preserve wine as it was shipped around the Mediterranean. Magically, it was used to protect people and possessions and to intensify the magical properties of potions and incenses. Dumbledore knows that the best way to identify dragon's blood is to taste it; it looks very like blood but tastes completely differently. Age of Dumbledore: Dumbledore was born in 1881, Harry in 1980, Harry is now 16; you do the math. I think Hermione decided on Ron back in the first film. When Ron took charge at the giant Wizard's Chess game, that got her attention. When he sacrificed himself to win the game, that impressed her totally. The 'Florence Nightingale effect', when she took on care of the unconscious Ron, sealed the deal and she was forever after lost to him. Ginny got a crush on Harry in the first film. When he risked his life to save her, that's what sealed the deal for Ginny's affections. Both Hermione and Ginny were willing to wait YEARS until their beloveds recognized they belong together. (The complication for Harry is that Ginny is his best mate's little sister.) Why is Bellatrix there with Narcissa and Snape? Bellatrix is Narcissa's sister; Narcissa is wife to Lucius and mother to Draco. They have a third sister, Andromeda, who was Nymphadora Tonks's mother. Narcissa is trying to remove Draco from Voldemort's plans, or at least keep him safe. Her only chance is through Snape while Draco is at school. In Dumbledore's address to the students, he says, "Their greatest weapon...is YOU" and Dumbledore is looking straight at Draco. The competition at the cupboard over who gets the newer book; Ron's experienced at such contests, so of course he gets the prettier book. But Harry gets the mangled book which holds all the corrections and cheat codes. Draco IS very alone; the tasks put on him by Voldemort isolates him from EVERYBODY. Who can he possibly go to for advice? Not his mates, not the school staff. And Snape just seems to be pressuring him to do or hand over those tasks, making Draco feel like a loser. The one good thing about Draco being isolated is that he's also isolated from bad influences. For once, he's had to figure things out for himself. Draco is questioning a lot of things he's never questioned before. This is part of his redemption arc. Ron's food insecurity driven lack of impulse control makes him unable to resist opening other people's packages and helping himself to their foodstuffs. That's how he ended up eating almost all of the love potion laced candies left for Harry by Romilda Vane. Also, while Harry and Slughorn were taking a moment to make a toast, Ron ignored the toast and was already drinking the poisoned mead. Harry's quick thinking led him to dig out a bezoar and give it to Ron, which drained Ron of the poison and saved his life. Basically, Ron's lack of impulse control saved the lives of Harry and Slughorn. Vanishing cabinets are temperamental, as Arthur Weasley has said; and Draco was tasked with getting this one to work. That's why he had an apple and two canaries (one yellow, one black), to test the cabinet. The apple made it through, but the first canary didn't. The school has a protective barrier around it; no one can get in or out. But a vanishing cabinet would provide a portal for Death Eaters to get in from the outside. Yes; Draco is crying. He's reached the point of deep regret. He wants out of his involvement with Voldemort, but he was told that if he failed to complete the tasks given him, Voldemort would kill him. Draco has seen the impact of his actions hurting fellow students and teachers like Katie, Ron, and Slughorn. And he no longer wants to hurt Dumbledore or even Harry. But he's trapped. And he has nowhere to turn. Harry speaks to Katie, who has finally been released by the nurse. Harry looks to the far end of the Dining Halll and sees Draco. I've never seen Draco wearing so much white before (it seems meaningful to me). Draco runs off to the Boys lavatory, pulls off his jumper (more white exposed) and bursts into deep sobs. It seems to me uncharacteristic for Harry to show up then and NOT pay attention to Draco crying. I will always wonder about the change that would have occurred in the story if Harry had responded to Draco's tears. So, they fight and Harry hits him with that spell he found in the potions book. And Draco is lying on the floor bleeding to death; luckily, Snape comes along and has the counterspell to reverse Harry's curse. Before heading to the Dining Hall, Draco had sent the black canary through the vanishing cabinet to Borgin & Burkes. When Ginny takes Harry into the Room of Requirement, Harry hears the canary which had returned and, opening the cabinet, sets it free. The yellow canary died, but the black canary survived the journey. Ginny hides the potions book, comes back, kisses Harry, and...I think they 'do it'. And when Ron asks Harry if he and Ginny had done it, it took Ron clarifying 'hid the book' for Harry to answer. Quick Lesson in Horcrux Math: If you split the soul into two pieces, you retain one piece to keep your body alive and you make a horcrux with the other piece. If you split it into 3 pieces, one piece is retained and you make two horcruxes, and so forth. So, seven pieces means six horcruxes. The whole point of horcruxes is to anchor some piece of your soul to the physical world by investing the piece in a physical object of some kind. Without a physical object to anchor the soul in the material realm, you die. A horcrux is literally a form of life insurance. Note: In the memory of Dumbledore first meeting little Tom Riddle, there were seven stones sitting on his windowsill (foreshadowing). Dumbledore takes Harry to a tiny island close to a coastline; it has a cave they enter to get to another horcrux, a locket. (The island appeared in a photograph on little Tom Riddle's orphanage bedroom wall). After Dumbledore swallows the liquid and asks for water, Harry is attacked by inferi; these are animated corpses of children young Tom Riddle had murdered and left to guard the hidden locket horcrux. Dumbledore has a plan; he knows what is happening. He tells Draco "I shall make it easy for you" and limply displays his wand knowing Draco, high on adrenalin and panicky, will disarm him. Remember this. Voldemort set this task for Draco because he knew Draco would fail to kill Dumbledore. It was part of the plan to get even with Lucius. Voldemort figured Draco would be killed by Dumbledore, would be targeted by aurors for killing Dumbledore, or Voldemort or his supporters would kill Draco for failing. The point was to hurt Lucius by hurting Draco, his son. But Narcissa and Bellatrix exacted an Unbreakable Vow from Snape to protect Draco by finishing the 'task'.

Way back in the very first movie, there's a reference to the vanishing cabinet without it being mentioned. Just after Harry is selected as the new seeker, there's the scene where Fred and George are telling him about the dangers of Quiditch. They mention that sometimes someone may disappear and not show up for months. In the books, this one if I remember correctly, Fred and George tell how they stuffed an exceptionally annoying Slytherin Quiditch player into a vanishing cabinet, and how he wasn't found for months. Whether the screenwriter was actually referring to that incident or not is up in the air for me, but it matches what I read.
