I was ship-shamed by my literature teacher because of this ship (it was back in 2004). We had elective assignment to write a last chapter of Harry Potter series as we imagine it (so basically, fanfiction) and I in my version Harry end up with Luna, 'cause I was shipping that. When returning grated papers, the teaches commented mine out loud in front of whole class "Really? With Luna?". With really condescending tone. Like it was invalid pairing. I felt ridiculed. Have trauma since that day [I was like 12 at that time]. That's why I always try to respect ships of other people.

I had no idea that Luna and Harry used to be a popular ship! This is pretty encouraging as I've been a hardcore Lunarry shipper for the past year or so. Luna is the only one who I feel truly understands Harry. She never gets mad at Harry for his emotions, but rather helps him through them and shows him the bright side of things, which was not something that anyone else did for Harry. Them being the only two to see the thestrals, and Luna teaching Harry that he shouldn't be afraid of them symbolizes that, in my opinion. I also identify with Luna a lot, and this ship is almost a form of self-validation for me. And although I have my gripes with the movies, they gave us a lot of Lunarry moments that really solidified the ship for me. Overall, it's one of my all-time favorite ships and it has a special place in my heart.

I prefer the term Huna, #sorrynotsorry I shipped Harry and Luna as soon as she was introduced, since I instantly felt that it was noteworthy how others saw her as odd, but Harry had a more relaxed, "just roll with it" attitude. It's not just that they both have great chemistry in the books and even-more so in the films. Luna, to me, definitely has Autism Spectrum (formerly called Asperger's Syndrome) - and as someone with this diagnoses I can say that there is nothing more comforting and important than to find someone who has a "just roll with it", understanding attitude towards the "oddness" of neurodiverse behavior. So yeah, I think Harry would be perfect for Luna. And as a side note - I felt there was a bit too little build up and chemistry between him and Ginny, and I would have found him ending up with Hermione to be too predictable/cliché. Him getting together with Luna would have been subversive!

I so agree with you!! Harry and Luna were great for each because I felt there was a lot of respect and less star struckness - Harry respects Luna's insights and experiences and doesn't mind some of her odd-isms. Luna can see through Harry's thoughts or confusions and somehow manages to offer a lot of insight, which is not just bookish. I feel there is a great connection between them because there are lot of small moments, which show this emotional connection. Ginny/Harry was honestly forced according to me because it was typically the-hero-fell-for-the-now-hot-girl-who-was-invisible. I mean he literally develops feelings out of nowhere - I mean he was just friends with her but now somehow is his soulmate. I mean whatever. Also Ginny's personality honestly is so grating compared to Luna's well developed, highly insightful, truly intelligent personality. Lunarry forever!

While not my OTP, Luna was one of the few characters who did not have preconceived notions of Harry or expected him to meet their standards. She treated him as a regular person, as that was what she saw him as. And Harry got to interact with someone who liked him simply for being him. It is a good pairing.

I was 9 when OotP came out, and I remember ranting for an hour on the train with my surrogate grandmother that "Luna and Harry should be together". Not based on her quirkiness, but I felt that she was the only one who could understand the things he's gone through. I first read the books when I was 7 and shipped Harry and Hermione because other media tropes kind of taught me the hero goes with the best friend. And because I identified with Hermione at the time, which I'm sure many people did. But Luna x Harry was the first time I considered a pairing from a more intellectual standpoint, and it still disappoints me a little that it wasn't explored. But also I get that some people can just be friends on that level without romantic interest, and rereading the series for the... idk how many times, does show an argument for Ginny x Harry. However, while having a childhood crush be realized is something a lot of people dream of, I would have liked Ginny truly getting over Harry eventually. Even supporting Luna x Harry (like when she says it's nice of him to take her to the ball). We would see a more mature relationship from all the characters involved. I've been a Harry/Luna shipper since the 5th book was released. Watching this video I was just like, 'you're preaching to the choir, yes, this is it exactly'. I just really like their dynamic and the ease and rapidness of genuine emotion happened between the two. By the sixth book Harry was already calling Luna a good friend, and in the seventh we had confirmation for Luna (though it was already apparent). Like, for Harry and Luna, both of whom didn't have many positive relationships in their life, they just find comfort and acceptance in each other when they couldn't in others, which I think is beautiful. They understood each other and let the other be, which is what they both needed. I felt like this was a very organic pairing that had so much potential. Not to mention I never understood Harry/Ginny. Some of my friends said they saw it coming but I genuinely did not. (to be fair I didn't see RoMione either but now as an adult I can sorta). Hinny always felt forced and maybe that's the movies shading Ginny's character of my remembrance of what happened in the books but even before the movie it came out of no where for me. I just don't get it, nor do I like it. They just don't seem compatible for a healthy long term relationship, and I find it disturbing that she was basically his adopted sister before they got together.

New HP fan here. I just got into this series as of last year, though I was aware of the canon ships and such before going in. That said.....I shipped Lunarry ever since Luna was first introduced and I still like this ship to this day. I honestly couldn't get that into the HarryxGinny ship. I knew it was canon and I kept looking for hints and buildup while I was reading the books but there was NONE whatsoever. (On Harry's part at least) Harry suddenly crushing on Ginny just came so out of the blue for me and I just cant bring myself to supporting it. I don't hate that ship and I do think it's cute in the sense that Ginny had a crush on him since childhood, but otherwise, it's just....awkward. With Lunary though, I felt like there was more chemistry. Harry seemed to be the first real friend that Luna had (aside from Ginny) and even if he did think she was odd, he never disregarded her because of that. Plus as you pointed out, she was really the only one who was able to help him deal with Sirus' death. I also thought it was adorable that out of all the girls that Harry could have asked to Slughorn's party he chose her. They are very much different but I can totally see them working out as a couple.

my harry potter otp!!!!! i'll admit it was mostly "my two faves paired together" in the beginning but there were these two fanvids i saw for it around the time the 5th (?) movie had come out that really, really, really sold me on it. i don't know if i can find them anymore sadly :( OR wait I think I had read a fic on AFF that made me go "WAIT A MINUTE... HOLD ON... OMG..." and it introduced me to it AND THEN i stared looking for content but I couldn't find much else at the time because I didn't really know how to use the net then :X. it meant a lot to me at the time because i was riddled with internalized misogyny and was weirdly possessive of characters i had a crush on (harry hdfugshff), so me getting really into this pairing was a shock. it even told me to be nice to other female characters (by shipping them with other characters and not just bashing because dear god 2006 12 year olds aaaa. 1. I do ship Huna. I love Luna so much as a character, and used to relate to her as a teen. I think her and Harry would be good for each other and had a lot of sweet moments 2. I personally feel Luna would have been a more satisfying endgame than Ginny. My fave Harry ship is Cedarry. I can’t find it but there was an fic where Harry/Cho bonded after Cedric’s death because they both loved him and it’s just super angsty and super bi and wonderful 3. I’m one of those old people who grew up alongside Harry. I read the first book in 1999 when I was in 6th grade. My favorite era for fan content was the gap between the GoF and OotP books. Sirius was alive and since the books weren’t finished there was this sense of ‘this could actually happen’, plus there was a ton of independent fan sites to sift through. My sister and I used to read theories (my favorite one was the speculation that Dumbledore was actually a time-displaced Ron Weasley) and count how many times Sirius and Lupin made eye-contact. It was beautiful.

I hate Hinny, never liked it, I feel like it's so obvious and it turned Ginny into a Mary Sue (like once she starts dating Harry, she literally has no flaws whatsoever). I've also never been able to get into any other Harry ships. Harry/Hermione was like siblings relationship to me, I never saw any chemistry between them, and though I tried shipping Drarry for a bit because of my Tumblr mutuals, ultimately I couldn't get into it. I actually ship Harry Potter with Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, and Cho Chang (I think that they could have worked if Harry could have taken her to the Yule Ball), so I ship like this ship a lot. But I also ship Luna Lovegood with Rolf Scamander (canon husband, he would be great for her if he is a lot like his grandfather), Neville Longbottom, and Harry Potter. The reason why I like the idea of Harry with Luna is because she understands losing someone you care about which was good in helping Harry and she had helped him relax when he was at his worst in his fifth year. I also liked how in the movie version of Half Blood Prince Harry said he would ask someone cool to go with him to the Slug Club Christmas party since Ginny was going with Dean Thomas and it switches over to Harry escorting Luna to the party showing that Harry thought that Luna was cool. I also think that Harry and Luna would have worked because she understands what it was like being an outcast like how Harry had to go through during certain points in his life. Extra Note: I forgot to add that I also ship Harry with Cedric Diggory too and that I like to see Harry as bisexual and he had a crush on both Cho Chang and Cedric Diggory at the same time.

1.) If Harry had to be straight I would have chooses Luna. I honestly thought they were going to get together until the sudden interest in Ginny slapped me in the face. It was just fucking weird. I fucking love that ship and the actors kinda like it too?? I'm interested to know what the ship name is because when I was into Harry Potter fanfics ship names were not a thing. Do you think you will ever get to Young Justice? You may not be into tho but if you are it is DC sidekicks and that has so many ship stuff. Also you should totally go over Kevedd which is Kevin and Edd from Ed, Edd and Eddy (which had it's anniversary just recently). It literally got popular because of one fan comic and Tumblr and it was an interesting phenomenon as it renewed interest in a cartooning that had stopped airing about a couple of years ago at that time ( in 2013?). It had a really strong reverse fandom too as well as AUs because the show itself was more loose slice of life. I think the Ed, Edd and Eddy fandom is more like a crack fandom in itself because the art style and content is so different. Anyway keep up the good work dude. 1) i am a lunarry shipper. during my read of goblet of fire (i forgot if that was the one when luna was announced) that i did ship luna and hermione, i liked how they were the opposites of each other and you could really play off of that. but in recent times i definitely see luna as being a perfect match for harry 2) i do see luna as being the best of harry's partners becasue i really hate the in-house shipping of many harry potter ships (such as ron/hermione, ginny/harry, drapple (apples are inherently slytherin). i think you can get much more out of having ships from charters in different houses 3) i was around the era that the movies were made, i remember when deathly hollows was in theaters, but i was never in the fandom until years later

I never picked up on Lunarry at the time, I was always more into Luna x Neville. It might be 'cause I never really liked Harry that much back when I was first reading the books/watching the films. Nothing against Lunarry though, it's definitely interesting and I can see the appeal. I don't really have a favourite ship for Harry as just none of them feel right to me, but if I had to pick then it might be with Ron as they have that good friendship base and they have some interesting conflicts they could work through in terms of Harry's fame, Ron's insecurities and all that. As for the fanfics I always gravitated more towards the more 'obscure pairs' and Marauders era fics. Also AUs. Blaise x Draco, Krum x Ron come to mind... And my go-to was always Sirius x Remus. I might have imagined it but I'm pretty sure I once read a Bellatrix x Greyback back in the day. I haven't checked out the works for Harry Potter in a while so I don't know if this has changed much over the years

Harry/Luna is one of my two top pairings, the other being Harry/Hermione, which I will note means I support threesomes. Yes, I am one of the types who could not grasp Harry/Ginny, so when I gravitated back to the HP fandom for more reading material during that weird time in the Transformers fandom when I couldn't stand reading slash between humans (the mechanics of "sticky" come across very hetro, despite male-identifying mechs). But yes, this is one of my pairings, and right now I have dug up a fanfic that I do not recognise from a previous reading, about an amnesiac Harry that is slated for a Harry/Luna pairing. I recently also reread "Faerie Heros", a fic where Harry, Hermione and Luna get sent back in time to a slightly different timeline at the behest of the Fae Queen to stop Voldemort from trying to steal her powers. I will once again note, I have no problem reading bashing about Dumbledore, Molly, Ron and Ginny Weasley. This fic has all of that, so be warned.

*whistles innocently* Lunar Harmony is the best ship. Luna and Hermione being opposite ends of a spectrum that didn't matter too much, but being balancing each-other out with the third influence of Harry, the two of them able to be themselves, or as much of themselves as they feel like, and having eachother as 'partners in crime' while Harry is an earthy, stabilizing factor who loves both of them without issue to their differences, and helps them explore their similarities and why their differences are such and figure out how to become even stronger with it. The ship is so amazing.

1./2. I shipped Harry and Luna from the get-go because of all their cute little moments and how Luna didn't treat Harry any differently than she would anyone else. I thought that was extremely important. Speaking as someone who didn't care for...really any of the canon pairings whatsoever, I thought Harry has/had the best chemistry with Luna out of everyone. I agree with the notion that most, if not all, of the canon pairings in the series felt forced and that's why I'm indifferent about them. Harry and Luna caught my attention in ways that none of the canon pairings did, and I would go as far as to say that they're the closest I have to an OTP in the Harry Potter fandom. Oftentimes, I felt rather alone in shipping them because none of my friends did. 3. Surprisingly, I never really got into reading Harry Potter fanfiction despite it being one of my favorite fandoms. So I'll answer this one by saying my favorite era of fandom was between book six and book seven, because it was the time when all the theories and speculations about how the series would end sprung up and it was all super fun to discuss and consume content during that time. (reminds me of the time between seasons two and three of Sherlock, now that I think about it...) Thank you so much for doing a video on this lovely pairing.

1. I was not a Harry/Luna shipper but Luna was always one of my favorite characters. I ship Ron/Luna. Luna is one the few people in the books that never praised Harry over Ron. There are many interactions between them that could be read as Luna having a crush on Ron. And Ron ending with Luna would have shown a great deal of maturity since most of his other relationships/crushes are shallow. For reasons you stated in the video, I also didn’t mind her with Harry. After the release of book 5, I was certain that he would end up with Luna. Because to me, it made no sense to introduce a new female character this late in the series with a personal connection and then not have her be Harry’s love interest. Their friendship had a steady build up that would have worked better than Harry/Ginny. From them bonding over thestrals, to the Slug Club date, and then rescuing her from Malfoy Manor, it was a perfect progression. Luna would have been a logical choice for Harry. 2. My favorite ship will always be Harry and Hermione. I loved their dynamic ever since book 1. They work so well together that I just can’t see Harry or Hermione giving that level of importance and respect to anyone else. Hermione impacted him more than any character...seriously Dumbledore lucked out that they became friends because Harry would have died. 3. My favorite shipping era was right after that first movie released in 2001 (with books 1-4). I read parts of the first book but never cared enough to finish it. But after watching the first movie I read books 1-4 in a week. Seeing the movie put a face to all the characters and made me want to learn more about the universe. Also, book 4 was a perfect cliffhanger and gave everyone so much to theorize about as there was constant movie news, book news, and updates from JKR. Please do a video on Link and Zelda. Also out of curiosity, do you like The Vampire Diaries? The Originals? Legacies? I ask because every pairing has potential in this universe and I’m interested in hearing about your favorite ships/theories/etc.

i've been a drarry shipper since day 1, but i knew as the series was coming to a close that JK would never make any of my queer ships canon. so harry and luna were like my.... If I Had To Pick A Straight Ship otp. xD i still really love lunarry, luna always really resonated with me as a character, as she was someone who faced bullying in her school years just bc she was interested in weird things, and i wanted her to have that refuge in harry who always treated her respectfully and never belittled her. i've come to like luna and neville for many of the same reasons, even though they don't share the same kinds of scenes in the books and the movies, but i know in my heart it's just a transfer of feelings from one ship to another.... still, huna > harmione > hinny!! (but drarry still beats them all!)

I was real big into Harry and Luna back in the day. But I feel like the relationships that ended up Harry and Ginny Ron and Hermione Luna and Newt grandson. Will make sense from a narrative perspective. Around the time the movie came out I was really upset the Neville and Luna didn't end up together but now I see that that wouldn't have worked out as well is Hulu not actually married. The ending doesn't bother me. But I do feel like it would have been great had JK Rowling left it more ambiguous. She could have used the saying all was well line without marrying all of her characters off. Then again JK Rowling doesn't exactly know when to quit.

I absolutely love Luna as a character, but I never saw or even thought about her with Harry. I was a Harry/Ginny shipper from the very start when I read the 2nd book. It just made sense to me, and I didn't think it came out of nowhere, because Ginny was infatuated with Harry from the moment she met him. That was the whole reason she wasn't active at the start; she was too shy around him. But her relationship with Harry was hinted at, from the way I saw it, in the 2nd book. I remember reading the Harry crush on Ginny and crying with happiness that my ship was finally sailing after all those years of theorizing!

I, personally, like Luna and Harry/Hermione. There's the chemistry, history, and cuteness to LunArry; and LuMione puts Luna in this "I shall show you the ways" position where she has access to knowledge and theory that Hermione is likely to dismiss. Their personalities jive well, and their knowledge bases don't overlap too much. If I were to use professionally lingo, Hermione's Zone of Proximal Development lands squarely in Luna's knowledge base. I also feel like Hermione evens out Luna's pixie -dreamgirl aspects.

I was admittedly rather late to the Harry Potter fandom for my age. I didn't get into it until the very end when the eighth movie was being released. So I also didn't have to wait for any of the books, I just binge read them. Also, as a fourth grader at the time I didn't really think much of relationships either. I got into fanfiction in the golden age of "the next generation" where fics about everyone's kids were in full boom thanks to the grand finale of everything. Slowly things began to dwindle down. I know people fled back to fanfiction after the disappointment of the Cursed Child, but I wasn't a big part of that, just mildly flittering through occasionally. Now with Fantastic Beasts, the fanfiction has changed because it's more adult content because it's older fans writing for older characters (not that all the fanfiction is just "adult content" but it has very much changed)

I like like Luna built up a stronger bond with Harry and got along with him a lot better than anyone else whereas Ginny treated Harry more like a childhood crush which turned into a fling. I think Luna and Harry's relationship would have been more harmonious and stable since in the Cursed Child he and Ginny ended up fighting a lot and their marriage had become quite strained over the years.

I can definitely see where there’s chemistry between Harry and Luna, but I really love them as platonic friends. I just see them as two people who love each other platonically, who get something from each other’s friendship that they don’t get from anyone else, but that they would be utterly bemused by any suggestion of dating each other. The Growing Pains of Harry Potter, a post DH, epilogue-disregarded webseries currently on KZbin, has one really beautiful Harry Luna friendship scene. The romantic ships in that series are Drarry and Romione, but I recommend it for all Harry Potter fans tbh, so good. I never really cared who Harry dated, because I was a hard-core Romione shipper and focused on that. I came into the series in between the releases of book five and book six, but I was in elementary school and too young to be allowed to roam free on the internet and discover much of the shipping fandom until closer to the release of book 7 when I was 13. I often wish I could’ve experienced more of the early days of HP fanfic, but I also treasure all the time in my early teens spent reading Romione fics on Mugglenet Fanfiction, which was my go-to for years. I almost want to go try some Harry/Luna fics just to see, because I’ve grown into a giant HP multishipper. My favorite Luna ship will always be Luna/Ginny though. They just complement each other really well and fight together during the war and stand up for each other, and I love them. For Harry, I just want him to be happy, and I do love the concept of Hinny and One Big Happy Weasley Family for that. :)
