Best movie, best book IMO. It introduces Lupin who is in my mind one of the most compelling characters, along with Sirius and Snape. Also Thewlis steals the show in this film.

In the book, The Ministry of Magic actually informed the muggle news about Black and in the beginning with the Dursley’s Harry was watching a random news broadcast where they talked about Black and his first reference to him. Of course they never mentioned anything about magic but the Ministry thought it was right to inform the muggles that there was a mad man on the loose, as well as stopping Black from just hiding with the muggles since he was now a known wanted man and presumed serial killer.

Which is referenced again in book 6 in another chapter cut from the films where it turns out the prime minister knows magic exists and the minister for magic occasionally meets with them when there is important magical info that they would benefit from knowing; such as Sirius escaping from prison.

The movies did a bad job regarding the whole marauders backstory, which is a pity because most fans love it. This one could have explained easily how they became animagus and created the map, why Lupin didn't know about Peter being the secret keeper and why Snape knew about Lupin being a werewolf. BUT the 5th movie did even worse, not showing Lily in Snape's worst memory (the part which actually makes it the worst memory for him), which later is so relevant to the story.

My favorite Potter movie. John Williams actually couldn't come back to Goblet of Fire due to being busy in 2005 (The year Revenge of the Sith came out). He was willing to come back for The Deathly Hallows movies but because of the schedule conflicts, it didn't happen.

Best movie, best book, hands down. Partly because I love well done time travel plots, but the rest of the story overall is just so well laid out and connected, there are elements introduced right from the start of the first book that suddenly all start coming together and the pieces that get introduced in this book all culminate in the final acts twists in a really brilliant way that makes total sense. It's the first time in the series where you really start to understand just how many chekovs guns Rowling was seeding throughout the whole time.

Having never read the books, I was always so confused as to why Harry thought that stag was his dad. Just seemed like something he made up for no real reason. Now that I've seen this and know about the Marauders, I'm bummed that they didn't include that. Makes no sense that they didn't. It wouldn't really have added that much screen time I don't think.

The reason Sirius wanted Peter to become Secret Keeper wasn’t because he didn’t trust himself, it was because it would have been too obvious if James’ best friend was secret keeper, so Sirius made Peter be it instead because no one would suspect him, and because Peter wasn’t really a powerful nor skilled wizard, making him even more hidden from suspicion, because again no one would suspect this lame wizard to be Secret Keeper for the most wanted magical family at the time.

Actually none of them knew who the secret keeper was. Sirius thought they chose Lupin when he thought Peter had died.

Shoutout to Dawn French who plays Fat Lady she is one of my absolute favourite humans and I ADORE her! She's in much more over here in the UK...and generally acts a lot better than the sort of over the top comedy in this film 😂😂 but she is hilarious! Also she's not any more but at the time of this she was married to Lenny Henry who voices the shrunken head in the bus...who's also a comedian and actor! He also was one of the main people who founded Comic Relief! Which has been going ages here but i know you guys get it now!

Here comes the unpopular opinion: Deathly Hallows - part 1 is the absolute best movie in the saga. I love the vibe in that one, the very dark road movie feeling, that huis-clos but on an entire country's scale, the focus on the relationships in the trio... Imo, of course, emphasis on that. Followed by PoA.

I actually think half blood prince is the best. Shows the slow corruption that Voldemort brings back into the wizarding world through Malfoy. Is the last movie with the gang in school and we see them actually being kids with normal school problems. Harry is more secluded in a sense from everyone else and is given this massive task to hurdle. There's a parallel with Draco where he's also on his own with his own special mission that's been assigned to him by Voldy. We see a really good breakdown of Malfoy with the full realization of what it means to be a dark wizard. We learn more about Voldemort and the horcruxes, in the books it was even more but I get why they didn't put that in. Love all the scenes with Slughorn and Harry, seeing how much he blames himself for Lily's death which is why he takes such a liking to Harry. And finally, that last gut punch with Dumbledore dying, Snape's betrayal and Harry discovering that the person who'd been guiding him all year long was Snape.

I like deathly hallows part one except for two things: Harry and Hermione dancing in the tent and the weird effects when Ron is trying to destroy the neck lace horcrux. Other than that I like it As for the half blood prince, I love the book but hate the second half of the movie. If they had kept the fight at the tower the same and hadn’t added the random fire at the burrow, I would have loved it

@@DaphneQueen the problem I had with deathly hallows is that it felt like they were drawing the movie out just to have the movie in two parts. I guess they meant to show how isolated Harry and the gang were and it was supposed to be like a fellowship of the ring kind of thing, still felt a bit drawn out. As for the fight in the tower and the fire, didn't really mind any of those things. I felt like things happened very organically in the movie so i didn't really mind what they cut out.

DH part 1 is my favorite too. I love that movie, I think they did a very good job adapting the book, but then part 2 was horrible, especially the final fight between Harry and Voldemort. Too Hollywood-esque. Imo is one of the worst of the saga.

I love OotP, because it's so entertaining (and Imelda Staunton as Umbridge is perfect), but I hate is the shortest of the saga and that they didn't include so many good moments of the book, because that book is one of my favorites along with HP3. I even hate the fight between Voldemort and Dumbledore a little, 'cause Dumbledore was fighting like Gandalf when he should've been fighting as if he was just taking a walk in the park. I feel like I love OotP as long as I don't remember the books.

its not that he was afraid of the dementor that means that he fears fear, it is the fact that his biggest fear shifted and the Bogart did too -- The jack in the box was slowly changing as if it was possessed by what harry knew at the time was voldemort (that being a ghost which possesses things) you see this in the fingers which slowly begin to elongate in the attempt to reach harry but then it just shifts to a dementor and lupin jumped in because he didnt want Voldemort to appear in the middle of class

The main black kid in the first films is Lee Jordan: when I saw the black kid in Divination class, I thought wow, he's changed a lot! Thanks for pointing out the hippogrif poop: it's mentioned in a DVD extra but I'd never been able to find it before; now I know where to look for it. The giant squid is helpful: in the book, new student Dennis Creavey tells his brother Colin that he fell into the lake on the boat trip over, but that the squid put him back in the boat. I saw a comment on another site about the Marauders' Map - Fred and George have had the Map for years, and for years they've seen Peter Pettigrew's name in Ron's bedroom at night, and they never said anything? I have no idea if this is true, but - I read that the actress playing Madame Hooch was so disgusted at the contracts the [then] child actors were given that she wouldn't sign up for future films. Apparently the contracts didn't allow the three stars any royalties from any merchandising that had their faces on them. So they get not a penny from all the games, merchandising etc. As I said, no idea if this is true. It's not as if they're not millionaires already, but all the same ...

I watched the first 6 movies before reading the books. I remember when I git to POA looking back and being so sad at how much of the Mauraders story was left out of the movie. And now the beginning with him doing the light magic always bothers me since there is no way he could have been doing that without getting in trouble.

I love this movie, is very well directed (maybe the best directed of the saga), but I hate that the Marauders' story was not included. And I like a lot David Thewlis as an actor, but I don't know why I can't like him as Lupin. HP3 was for many years my favorite book so maybe I can't criticize some aspects of the film fairly.
