Prisoner of Azkaban is the movie that stands out the most from all HP movies. This is an artistic and cinematic masterpiece by Alfonso Cuaron. The atmosphere and tone of this movie is so unique. There's always that feeling of nostalgia which is further amplified by the colour grading. In terms of pure film making this is probably the best HP movie.

The map was made by Harry's dad, serious black and professor lupin, when they were kids. The tree was also placed in hogwarts to keep lupin's id secret. Lupin used to hide under the tree when he lost control and tree used to attack humans not animals. Plus when Harry's father and serious black knew about his misery, they befriended him and learned animage skills to turn into animals so to keep him company during his bad times. And it was Harmonie's cat who informed and planned with serious black to get that rat. The cat was always suspicious of that rat that is why she was always after it.

So they created a rumour that it is haunted so that no one would go there and Lupin's condition stays a secret. Also I think its Dumbledore who planted the Whomping Willow at the Hogwarts and created a secret passage underneath it that goes directly into the Shreiking Shack ( that's where Sirius drags Ron by his foot to), so that Lupin could go there every full moon and not harm anyone or seen by anyone. One more thing is that there is a certain branch on the Whomping Willow, if you press down on it, it would stop attacking you or something like that ( I don't remember properly), and it does not attack animals ig.

In the book they say when Snape found out Neville imagined him in his grandmother's clothes in class, his bullying nevillie in the potions class became worse, lol. Also, Divination Professor Trelawney may seen quirky, but every single prediction she made came true. Eg. In class, it was predicted that Harry will suffer but would be happy about it. Came true when he m3t Sirius, he did become happy eventually even though he suffered about the whole betrayal and parting thing.

Important stuffs in book those made it the best are: The womping willow was planted so Lupin as werewolf could go to shrieking shack from the path below willow and his friends as animagus form would play with him there as it could keep others safe as well and that's why it is called haunted. Professor Trelawney was the one who predicted the death of voldemort to dumbledore, which was revealed to voldemort by someone important (no spoilers), it said something like someone born at last of July would kill the dark lord and he'll mark the person as his equal, that's why Neville's and Harry's family were targeted while they were young as they two were the ones born at end of July.(Side-Plot of harry Potter and order of phoenix). Usually all of her weird predictions are correct. And she's the one due to which Harry Potter's story started (by Targeting Harry's parents). Hermione's cat also had some plot, which told us that she was previously owned by some wizarding family. She communicated with serius in the dog form in some way and was aware about pettegrew being Ron's rat. That's why she always tried to catch it. A theory is that she's the pet of Potter's family. The theory came up because of a letter by Harry's mom/dad(not remembering exactly) talking about the cat as well in the books.

44:25 Apparently, as per the lore, the power of "expelliarmus" depends upon the aggression and energy that the wizard is channeling into his wand. As per the lore of this universe, the wand is not the thing which generates magic, but the wand only enables the wizard to control and channel his magical energy. Seeing that Harry hates Snape, I'm not surprised that Harry channelled all of his energy into the spell to shove him back into the bed. Also, as per the book, apparently that spell on snape was a triple spell, with Hermione and Ron also spontaneously using the spell on Snape to disarm him.

The marauder's map was made by Harry's dad James, Sirius, Lupin and Peter under the code names, Prongs, Padfoot, Moony, Wormtail. Since Lupin was a werewolf and they were all good friends and to support Lupin they turnt themselves into animagus and roamed around together. The Tree is a passage from hogwarts to the shrieking shack, where lupin stays every full moon so he doesnt get out of control around students. Its not really haunted, it was a rumour spread around so that people dont go around the shack when lupin is in there.

It always pisses me off how they gave all of the lines and things Ron and Harry did to Hermione. Hell, she even got dumbledore's lines. Ron was the one who explained what mudblood meant in the second book, he was the one who reminded her to use her wand in the first, he was the one who stood up for her when snape mocked her and he was the one who stood up on a broken leg to protect harry from sirius. I love the movies but the character assassination is real. They also gave a lot of harry's good moments to her. But they did do Harry's sass justice in this movie. He was so sassy in the books.

@@argierog That doesn't mean you ruin one character to boost another. The Reason they are known as Golden Trio is because all three of them have unique qualities and bring equally on the table. They gave Ron qualities to Hermione along with her own qualities (because the maker liked Hermione's character more) which makes her a near perfect character and hard to relate to. Book Hermione is loved because she also has flaws just like other characters, but they took away her flaws which she overcomes throughout the series. That is the main reason why people hate the romantic ships in the reason(Trying not to give spoilers)- Character assassination. Most of the Weasley family goes through it.

I know it's not easy to not say anything when you know the whole plot, but it would be better if Michael waits to let Kristen figure stuff out on her own, especially because the movies often explain a lot of things just as they happen. For example, the dementors enter the train, and michael says "here comes the askaban prison guards". This will be very shortly explained by Lupin in the next shot. And more about the dementors is explained in hogwarts when dumbledore warns everyone about them. Just a suggestion

Love the breakdown you guys give at the end. One thing: it's not just Divination that Hermione has a challenge with; she also struggles with flying. Recall that she had trouble commanding her broom to rise to her hand on the first day of flying lessons (1st film). And immediately after Harry tries to explain why he could do a full Patronus charm (while they're flying to Sirius on Buckbeak's back), Hermione can't get out her sentence saying she hates flying because she breaks into a scream. I would expect a muggleborn to be uncomfortable flying. But Hermione is too logical, too much in her head to have ESP. And I don't think Trelawney was 'ripping into Hermione' with any intention or even awareness. Trelawney is so established in the psychic ream that she has no filter or social skills. Hermione may be blind to psychic stuff, but Trelawney is equally blind to social skills. Note: the 'Grimm' showing up in the clouds during the rainy Quidditch match is interesting. Divination by reading cloud forms is called aeromancy. It's a practice where people interpret the shapes and patterns of clouds in the sky to gain insights into the past, present, or future, essentially using atmospheric conditions as a form of divination. Great insight into Draco, that he's losing his 'Ace card' of threatening to tell his dad. Now throw this in: Lucius Malfoy is a cold distant father. Draco is slavishly trying to earn his father's love but never seems to satisfy Lucius. Draco models himself after his father, strives to be his 'mini-me', but never succeeds. Draco repeats the vile things his father says and absorbs his father's elitist attitude towards others. And that makes Draco self-hating. I keep thinking about Draco the first day of school, hoping to achieve a real coup he could brag to his father about by becoming friends with the famous Harry Potter, only to be rejected by Harry in front of the entire First Year class.

I think Harry went a bit mad when he saw himself cast the patronus and that's why he thought he saw his father. Because Hermione did say that you'd go crazy if you saw your future or past self.
