Regulus Black survived the cave and got the locket. Creature drank the potion as it would not effect a house elf. The fake locket was then put into the crucible and the real one ended up snitched by creature, then by Mondongos Fletcher, then by Dolores Umbridge. They got it back in the ministry and at a point later, destroyed it.

Regulus black didn't survive because the drink in the crucible makes the did let really thirsty and as soon as you touch the water around the island inferi jump out at you he died by it but creature put the fake locket in and dissaperated he then his it in his cupboard in grimwald place where it got stolen by mundungus fletcher then it got confiscated by Dolores umbridge where they took it.

Killing with the basilisk counts as a direct kill becouse voldemort was able to make a horcrux with it.
