Harry Potter Theory: Newt's Patronus

With a name like Newt Scamander, I always thought his patronus would be a dragon. Dragons were archaically referred to as lizards, wyrms, or salamanders. In addition, you did mention that his love interest Tina has "gold" in her name. Dragons hoard gold. That's my case and I'm sticking to it.

SPOILERS BELOW . . . . . . . I feel that Newt’s patronus may actually be a Salamander! In the new movie he said that Tina’s eyes resembled that of a salamander! It seems perfect if they reveal a relationship between Newt and Tina with Newt showing her that his relationship is the creature that he relates to her.

Porcupines are fitting for Newt even without taking his affection for Tina into account. They're normally gentle creatures (Newt is usually a passive and kind person), but can be difficult to interact with (a porcupine's quills vs Newt's social awkwardness and overall dislike of most humans) and can easily mess you up if you try to mess with them.

If you take a look at Tina's Harry Potter Wiki page, it shows that she does eventually marry Newt, and her Ilvermorny house was Thunderbird. What was Newts reason for going to the US? He went to release his Thunderbird in the deserts of Arizona, so he obviously cares about his Thunderbird. I think his patronus is a Thunderbird.

Did you think Newt's patronus may have been a swan? In Greek mythology Zeus came to Leda as a swan. If he loved Leda Lestrange it would make sense that his patronus would be a swan. But, like Tonks, I think his patronus will change once he gets over Leda.

You asked "What is your Patronus?" Mine is a rat. Both because they are one of my favorite animals, excluding Peter Petigrew as Wormtail of course, he gave rats a bad name! Also due to the fact that my soul sister loved rats too. It's what brought us together to find a missing piece of each other's soul. Sadly I lost her to cancer which rocked my world to it's core. I am still grieving after 2 years. Even if I hadn't already loved rats, I believe my Patronus would have become a rat in honor of her. I even made a graphic with a rat using Snape's "Always" because I will always love my sister with all my heart. In fact I always used to greet her with "Hey Sis!" Kinda like you guys do, but I've always used Hey as a greeting. But Jay's "See you in another life." Is so poignant now. I know this is an older video but I just wanted to share. Love all your videos! You guys rock!!

Patronuses can change due to emotional change, like tonks fell in love with lupin and her patronus changed to a wolf (like lupins) and snapes turns to a doe like lilys bc he loved her, lilys turned to a doe because she fell in love with james so her patronus changed to a doe bc jamess was a stag (male version of a doe) but the thing i dont understand is that why wasnt lilys patronus a stag too? Like usually they change into the exact same patronus as their partner????

According to an interview with Eddie Redmayne; they had to take the Pottermore patronus quiz to find out what their characters Patronuses' were. Upon receiving a Basset Hound the film crew made him take it again so Newt would have a cooler Patronus as the algorithms made it very unlikely he would get the same Patronus twice, which once again resulted in a Basset Hound. So there you have it. Newt's Patronus is a dog.

It could start out as one and then after meeting Tina change like Tonks' did after she fell for Remus. It could be seen as a sign that he's starting to actually open up to other people and finding his true place in the world. Because as we are told book-wise he does end up with Tina and they get married and have a family. Their grandson eventually ends up married to Luna and they have twin sons named Lorcan and Lysander per the epilogue of the series. So yeah, what he ends up with as a Patronus could be totally different than what he started out with.

Sorry to do this but I think I found out true evidence to newt's patronus because of the book of fantastic beast and where to find them (quote from page 27) "I looked up to see that deathly shadow being thrown into the air upon the horns of my Patronus." So, it must be something with HORNS being that the book is meant to be written BY Newt. It has to be a stag, oryx, Impala, goat, re'em or dragon. (My guess is the dragon or re'em though seeing that newt is a magizoologist) oh and if your wondering if I'm just put down random animals I LITERALLY LOOKED UP ALL THE PATRONUS ON Pottermore’s Patronus Quiz.

Harry wanting to be like James is irrelevant to his Patronus. Obviously he thought his dad cast it, he had no reason to think he did it. Apart from being dead. Snape's was always a doe. Although no where near necessary for a relationship, his reflects how he was so like Lily, so close to being right for her, but just quite wasn't. Your Patronus changes because your hidden self changes. Being unable to hide your hidden self doesn't automatically mean you actively choose your Patronus. It means your favourite animal would be your Patronus, based on how your personality works. Dumbledore's isn't a phoenix because he picked it, it's because his personality means he likes phoenixes, and it's that same personality that determines your Patronus. His is unhidden, so they're the same animal. Intimidating is relative. To insects, a bowtruckle would be intimidating, as they prey on them, whereas an erumpent would be inviting. Size of a Patronus is irrelevant to strength. A wizard called Illyius held off an army of Dementors with a mouse Patronus. Strength of memory determines strength of Patronus.

My Patronus is a Thestral - and I absolutely love it! I do like the idea of Newt's Patronus being a Porcupine but I think there are other options too tbh. For example, citing Newt's intense passion & unique talent for working with dragons - who refused to obey anyone but Newt - I think his Patronus may actually be a Dragon.

I really do feel like his patronus is either potentially- • Leta Lestange’s patronus because she was his first love in Hogwarts and patronuses usually take form from that ( Exp: Snape). • Salamender (because Newt said Tinas eyes resembled a salamander and when he said that she immediately answered for him either because someone has told her that before or because that’s her patronus as well) • I mean it could be a newt but it’s just because his name’s newton. • Possibly a type of bird or dog? I prefer if it’s a salamander rather than a porcupine from the comment he made but really any patronus would probably fit him with his love of animals and magical beasts.

No, but there are dragons with different personalities. And it was just an idea. Also, I think the fact Draco's patrounus is more of a play of his name than anything, as the constellation Draco is the Dragon constellation. HEYY! I have a theory about newt Scamander’s patronus that I’m really excited about! Keep reading to the end if you’re interested!! I think it makes sense for his patronus to be a porcupine if we assume it is Tina-related, but in the screenplay he says, “ She has eyes just like a salamander.” So it could be either. I’m not entirely convinced it’s even to do with her, though because neither of those would be spoilers. It’s obvious to everyone tina and him have a strong, romantic relationship from the beginning, and we know the patronus at least had to go through a change from something else, because for most of his life he didn’t know her. I think it will still be a subtle hint to his past, where he has hidden secrets and regrets. His biggest one is probably the reason he was expelled from Hogwarts: he took credit for the endangerment of a student’s life that leta lestrange actually caused. I think this blame has stayed with him, not only because it got him kicked out of the school in which he loved (he says it’s the best in the world in fantastic beasts), but also because afterwards he and leta drifted apart. She was one of the only humans he enjoyed the company of besides Tina. So I think his patronus is the same as her’s, which I believe to be a raven. Her’s is most likely a raven because of her biggest secret: she killed Corvus lestrange (jr). Corvus in Latin is raven. Raven is also her family’s emblem. Furthermore, newt and leta first met in a cabinet where leta was hiding from bullies and he was nursing a RAVEN. This would be a spoiler because it means he is still nursing feelings for her, and could put a strain on Tina and his relationship if ever she finds out. It could also even cause problems between he and his brother where things already aren’t great. This could potentially lead to more drastic problems, but personally I think just the trouble in his and Tina’s relationship is enough to qualify! That is why I believe that Newt Scamander’s patronus is a raven!! I hope you like my theory!

Oh well actually it is a Basset Hound. Eddie (Newts actor) said that when they were doing the test for which Patronus animal you get he got the Basset hound. J.K Rowling thought that wasn't Newt enough so Eddie took the test again. The team said statistically speaking it is near impossible to get the same Patronus animal twice, when the results came back they again said he got the Basset Hound. So yeah technically it is the Basset Hound but canonically it probably won't be considering J.K Rowling didn't agree with it the first time.

@hollie the "is" is not suposed to be there. I sometimes just put random words somewhere, where they don't belong. And also english isn't my fist language and that was over 2 years ago so it was worse than it is no (it's still pretty bad)

And the one floating at the trailer was a giant cloak-like covering a building...It's morning, and it might be a lethifold but they comes out at night hmmm but I'm expecting too
