Thank's for giving my old Elefant such a good new home - it's great to see that you have kept the bike so untouched with all the mod's over the years still intact e.g. Suzuki mudflap, EBC key fob and tie wrapped instruments - absolutely brilliant to see the bike in its intended environment - Thank you

Fantastic Harry! Proper big traillies in the desert. Perhaps you should build a YZE900 Yam like Jean Claude Olivier raced, that would be something special. My pal has a Super Tenere and fitted a TRX motor to it back in the early nineties and it's painted in Yamaha Motor France colours too, that goes very well indeed. Vive la moto!

Great video -- unless you've tried it's really hard to comprehend how hard and physical it is to ride in these kind of conditions, even more so if you don't have the confidence in deep sand (which takes a lot of experience). Added to that a heavy ADV bike and some vintage bikes too, must have been real tough. What a great episode!

This is an amazing adventure, Harry! I admire your spirit, going out in the Sahara on these bikes. Back in the 70s and 80s I rode dirt bikes in Arizona, California and Colorado. Watching you riding out there brought back many fond memories of friends in places that I traveled in the desert. It was particularly fun watching you figure out to stay on top of the sand by going fast. I remember learning that myself, and what a joy it was when I finally got the hang of it! Seeing you figure it out was almost as much fun as doing it myself! I doubly enjoyed it because of the KTM there, as a 175 KTM was my ride for a while. Still my favorite off-road bike! Thanks for taking me down memory lane, Harry!😃

Sounds like a mega trip. While I love cars, there's something extra special about using an adventure bike for what it was made for. There's a connection you don't get in a car and the fission of danger never goes away, which makes it that much more exciting too!

I used to have a poster on my bedroom wall of a Honda Transalp in the Rothmanns colours...wonderful machine and the closest I hoped to get to an actual Honda Africa Twin. And lo and behold, when I turned sixteen I got my ling desired Honda. Camino. Granted, I had put a Leovinci exhaust on it and a 65cc cylinder, a watercooling with the little radiator on top of the headlight and the obligatory five spoke wheels and long saddle from the Custom. But it wasn’t a Transalp...let alone an Africa Twin. 😄

Another magnificent video! I went there (erg chebby) , and stayed in auberge du sud, in 2017, on my Supertenere 1200 but we rented quads to go in those same dunes. Amazing experience!

Great stuff, so much water! Always a tricky balance finding bike that is light enough off road but can do the tarmac as well. For me a 690/701 does it though usually I'm on a 400 :)

Amazing stuff harry! Enjoyed the video massively. I have to say, you're an amazing rider. What an adventure. Loved seeing the old bikes on the dunes. PS - "Tiff Needell wouldn't like that" was epic!

Tough stuff! Nicely done! Great to see these bikes put to usage in such harsh conditions... Well done, all! I wonder if Zippy ("Momentum is your friend") still has that grouchy little dog of his; that little creature caused me an 'off' whilst traversing the long bar elevation... Such fun! And, as Harry says, if you want to learn to ride 'off road', then Desert Rose is a good 'un!

Great video as usual. I'd love to do that. I grew up watching Dakar highlights videos from Duke Marketing - I watched them over and over. Had a morning on the dunes in Dubai earlier this year - it was quite scary riding on sand until you learn to trust the bike and remember that faster is better. I'm not sure I'd have the minerals to ride a bike heavy bike like those rather than a purpose-built enduro! Off to watch part 2 now...thanks.

Superb video Harry, great viewing; my right hand was twisting an imaginary throttle when you were getting into the sticky/sandy bits. Lovely to see the Cagiva in the sand, those 904 Ducati engines are super engines and I’d love to get my hands on one at some point. Interestingly I got rid of my KTM Dakar S 990 for the same reasons you mention in the vid, too heavy and too tall!
