God, I’d feel so bad for Linda if *the Crown Prince* showed up drunk and high, completely out of it on her doorstep. - - Like, just imagine it’s like 2am and someone knocks on your door, you open it and there’s the crown Prince, and I can imagine him immediately being like “Hi Linda.. where’s Simon..?” probably swaying back and forth, holding onto to wall for support. Also, she was in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic/drug addict, she would *absolutely* know that he was drunk and high (and she’d definitely be firmly anti-Wille if he did any of what I just described).
@temporarystranger953 жыл бұрын
Agreed with your comments regarding Edvin Ryding (Wilhelm). I think Edvin is such a brilliant young actor. He communicates Wilhelm’s anxiety, confusion, vulnerability, pain, sorrow, and angst without even saying a word. His non-verbal communication … his eyes, facial expressions, body language, gestures … is stunning. The viewer knows exactly what Wilhelm is thinking and emoting. Brilliant stuff. I also have high praise for Omar’s acting debut. He is a natural and is very at ease in front of the camera. Both are very charismatic and they light up the screen when together. Props to the casting director! Enjoyed your reaction and comments. Great cast, great writing, directing, editing, cinematography, and score.
@ihatefrankiero3 жыл бұрын
Edvin has anxiety in real life and this is why I find it important that more shows and movies 1) write characters with emotional and mental disorders, without making their story revolve around it 2) cast actors with these disorders both because these actors tend to be passed over in casting as well as because actors casted to play characters with disorders they have themselves can use their own experiences to more accurately portray the symptoms on screen I love that wille’s anxiety was never the entire focus of his story. Because obviously people are more than their illnesses or their disorders. Much better representation than Ian from shameless, whose bipolar disorder was literally the whole focus of his characters storyline in season 4.

Edvin Ryding (Wilhelm) has been acting since he was a child and you are right, he is a pro even though he is still a teen. Omar Rudberg (Simon) has a successful music career, he used to be in a Swedish boy band. This is his acting debut though he did such an amazing job it's hard to believe. And Malte Gårdinger (August) is also amazing. If you watch interviews with him he is the polar opposite of August. To be able to pull off such a part and make everyone hate you must be one of the hardest things, I imagine. Bottom line: the casting was on point, not only for these three.

Fun fact: the soccer field scene was completely improvised by the actors :)
@RedBanana_ Жыл бұрын
I’m super late but, this actually isn’t entirely true. Most of the football (soccer) field scene isn’t improvised, it’s the ‘everything is fake’ line that’s improvised (which makes me think that Edvin was told about the metaphor in that scene (football = real, rowing = fake/superficial)).
@helise-ji9jy3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! The acting is phenomenal, the chemistry is insane!!! Wilhelm is so young, just 16. He needs time to figure out who he is and what he wants. With what you were saying about it being sad that Simon just knows to make sure his father sleeps on his side because he was drunk, as much as I agree it does break my heart to see it done in a way that looks almost routine? Idk how else to phrase that but, like, just from watching how he does it you can tell he’s done it lots before. However, I don’t know if it’s the same in Sweden but, I was taught to do that by my school (and I go to public school) when I was like 14. There was a whole assembly on alcohol and there was a section that basically said “don’t get drunk until you’re at least 18 (legal drinking age) but if you’re around drunk people, if they fall asleep, make sure they sleep on their side.”

Oh my gosh, I love you!! I couldn't stop laughing at how horrified you were about August's character! I feel you, he is just despicable and deserves our utter contempt! :D But still great acting, though, to evoke such hate by all of us. I agree with you, that Wilhelm's and Simon's relationship and love for each other are portrayed beautifully and I am amazed by its bittersweet delicacy and tenderness. They touch my heart and let my soul resonate. I believe that's the reason why I love to watch a proper gay romance (even if I'm a straight girl). If you don't have it for yourself, experiencing it through the eyes of two adorable boys feels like the next best thing... I tend to get totally lost in such characters. Sorry for digressing and leaving a somewhat lenghty comment, but your reactions make me happily relive my emotions when watching YR for the first time. Totally, totally agree! I‘m also a little older 😅 (Whatever that means…) and I see things from a different kind of view. I need and hope for a character development by August!!!
@mellowtopia53763 жыл бұрын
@@helise-ji9jy Yes, me too! I would trust the writers to make it a good one, not redemption for redemption's sake but something really routed in the character. Malte, August's actor called August "punchable" and "fragile" and I find that very on point and very insightful. I have to remember that one scene, because I haven't seen anyone pick up on it, when Wilhelm and August were outside after the society scene (peeing against the wall, before the football field scene) and Wilhelm tells of his guilt about having told his brother to go faster with his car and August comments "That's exactly what happened with my father". It was the first time he ever mentioned his father's suicide and how he personally felt about it (guilty), but Wilhelm was so drunk and stricken with grief that he didn't pick up on it and continued talking about himself. It felt like August really wants someone to open up to, but can't find the right moment, or people, to succeed. And I do feel he had a special relationship with Erik, Erik understood him in a way, and it's his loss too. Again, not excusing August's actions but I read him as a very complex character and I hope we see a lot more about his struggles in a S2.
@FarisHusaini3 жыл бұрын
@@mellowtopia5376 Agreed with your insights. As much as I despise August, I do feel for him and can see there's good in him. He just needs a wake up call and maybe true friends that can guide him. I see his struggles sometimes with his own actions although most people just see him being a dickhead.
@mellowtopia53763 жыл бұрын
@@FarisHusaini Absolutely! Again, not to condone what August does, but he does struggle with himself and a lot of other things and you can tell. It's a great testament to Malte, August's actor, to let us see those nuances.
@HarryAllen93 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of these points to an extent hehe. When it comes to Simons father I totally agree that on some level its out of his control and I do feel sad for him, however I also completely understand Simon and Sarah's point of view as it must be very tough to have to have dealt with these things as kids. Its just sad on both sides but I hope they can work through it and have some kind of relationship in the future. With August idk, I feel like I would have agreed more before watching episodes 4 and 5. Him going to kiss Sarah to have some kind of power over Felice by knowing he has kissed her friend to get back at her for hanging out with Wilhelm is just very gross behavior. The same with what he did at the end of episode 5, its never to actually benefit his life, its just to worsen other peoples to make his troubles seem less than they are. Both show someone who is extremely insecure, which, you could argue is reason enough to feel bad for them, however I still feel the actions alone are bad enough for me to hate him lol. I have empathy, yes, but empathy only gets me so far. With Sarah we have definitely seen some negatives but I feel I can see her reasonings more than Augusts for example, all she wanted was friends and being lonely can make you lash out at others when you don't mean to simply cause you're feeling depressed. Whereas with August, I feel he is more of an intentionally rude/mean kind of person if you get what I mean, he does it with the intention to bring people down rather than occasionally letting it out when overwhelmed. Never feel bad for writing about a show with passion hehe, whenI have the time I love to read these kinds of comments and get other peoples points of view!

Felice improves so much. It seems like a lot of that early stuff about wanting to get with power and all that was really pressure from her mom. A problem similar to Wilhelm's but on a bit smaller scale. Sara and her other friends help Felice fight back against her mom later on. And yeah, August is the worst. He has issues of his own but it is no excuse for the stuff he does. And even his money issues are partially an extension of his elitism. He could sell some assets but he doesn't want to. He defines himself with those and the status they represent.
