35 + years tripping, I am still learning! I run a 35l frig set as a freezer only, but I also bring a small cooler. Just move frozen foods to the cooler once a day, & cooler stays cold.

We bought a telescopic lamp that has a dimmer switch that I love. Lights up a huge area when you need it & a nice soft light when you want, which is most of the time. Takes two secs to put up & love the flexibility of where you can put too. Ginger & chilli freeze really well if needed. Two years since 1st book? Must be time for the 2nd!

Great tips!! A tip I learnt about how to store lettuce from a Cruise Ship Chef now working on a transport ship. Coss Lettuce (being small) wrap in paper towel so it's all covered. Place in a large Zip Lock bag, about A4 size. Roll up tight getting all the air out & lock. Place in your fridge. Give it a go. I have managed 3 weeks so far before they go off.

Good tips re drawers, had side by side drawers and fridge slide, removed drawers, installed drawer fridge and shelf over top, now use plastic boxes and bags depending on trip, so much more space. Dont miss the drawers at all and saved about 70kg

Another great video Harry, but I think I have an answer for your lettuce conundrum 😁 I saw a hack for storing Cos lettuce and tried it on my last 3 week trip to Birdsville and it worked! Separate, wash then dry your Cos lettuce leaves, wrap in paper towel and then alfoil, seal in a zip lock bag. They lasted for 3 weeks , stayed crispy and only started to have some slight browning on the white middle part at the end of the trip. 😊

Even if youre only going away a couple of times a year, a vac sealer (food saver or similar) is one of the best investments you can make. They make trip preperation so much easier and you'll be surprised how much you use it day to day

I’m a family of six so planning meals starts a month before… as I have a legit vegetarian in the mix ( yep don’t know how that happened) and 3 teenage boys who would only eat meat if I let them . Hey and greetings from Kenya. I agree 99.9% with your tips apart from lettuce. I recently went up to the North of Kenya / border with Ethiopia and it was 45c during the day. At home I pulled a lettuce apart and put it in a tupperware filled with water and put it in the fridge which we run at around 0 > +1. The lettuce stayed fresh (& crunchy) for at least 5 days and was great on sandwiches.

It's always good to divvy up your ingredients as part of your meal planning preparation. Having your own vac seal machine is a worthwhile investment so you can pre-freeze them to help with your fridge power usage for longer trips.
