They lied to you, is the bottom line. You are not over-reacting. Being on social media is irrelevant. Everybody is. It's your money. You own a warrantee on this car. Don't be bullied by the dealer, who like most, are trained to avoid warrantee claims like the plague. It's part of Toyota's customer service. They are so big, they are and consider themselves, untouchable. Get it fixed, and report the outcome. We are interested. We are also Toyota customers, and your pain, helps us.

Well said Andrew. Harry TBQH if all of my customer's were as open and honest as you have been let alone not hitting your emotional redline from the get go my life would be so much easier! A little more integrity would have gone a long way on behalf of a certain maintenance department as the codes you describe are logged. they do not simply become invisible when the dealer plugs in they are pretty damn obvious!! Unfortunately you tend to be in the hands of individuals who do not wish to deal with 'curly' problems and are very good in the art of 'deflection'. I spent many years in various WA dealerships to get a certain 'feeling' for the way things are done. Your experience is heavily dependant on the service staff and service manager at that dealership obviously.... who may not necessarily see your investment in their brand with quite the priority you would expect.. Cheers

I've spent 20 plus years dancing around the periphery of the car industry as an engineer and product designer, you're 100% not overreacting. It takes the auto industry take an age to respond to issues, and the trickle-down to dealers is ridiculously slow - no matter the company. Usually, it takes a motivated consumer (You) to make dealers actually look deep to their service recommendations to get dealers on board. You calling this out hopefully will help the next person coming through that dealer's door have a better experience.

In the states this is pretty much how every OEM dealer behaves. There are the few who behave differently but odds are this is what you get. I would just offer the advice of not being coy next time and tell the dealer you know the codes and demand action right from the get go. The longer they lie they feel invested to double down on the lie. Best to confront the lie sooner and press for action and results.

We use plenty of the cheap gear and yes, some is total crap but a surprising number of things are actually pretty good, especially some of the Aldi gear. The one area I do try not to buy low end is electronics, for that I try to stick with Redac, Ctek and better regarded brands. Hey mate, you have probably sorted it by now but I look after a large amount of fleet for the rental company I work for and we recently had 4 brand new Prado’s go into Limp literally almost all at the same time whilst out on rent. We trucked them back to the dealer and turns out it was throwing the low oil pressure code, this was due to the fact the engine oil that was put in them from factory was wrong (there was a bulletin about this), because the viscosity of the oil was a lot thinner it wasn’t running at the correct pressure. The sensor picked this up and of course causes all the other lights to come up and go into “limp mode” once the oil was changed they were perfect. maybe a total different issue but if you haven’t sorted it already may be worth looking into, cheers Josh

Ha, I'd be pissed as well! For the record though, I owned a Prado for 7 yrs. East coast to the Kimberly 3 times, Each through the Tanami/Plenty highway. High country numerous times, Fraser, Moreton a few times etc etc.. towing as well. Apart from a few dirty radar sensor messages, Didn't miss a beat. As long as you look after it and stay on top of servicing you're in good hands! Unfortunately in Broome you don't have much choice with dealers and servicing. Pradopoint is also a good forum to be in! Love the truck!

Definately no over reacting mate it was the problem with my vx aswell wrong parameters for the oil pressure. Good job on keeping onto the dealers to keep them honest instead of always ripping people off. Good video thats for the info 👍

Yep totally agree. Had similar issues with the same major dealer. They still slogged me lots of money for work that was never carried out. It’s a shame because I had been using their service for many years to ensure my warranty was kept up. Luck for us Broome mob there is other options especially ones that know what they are doing. Even the little players.

Loving your channel mate keep up the great work! I have a 2019 Prado GXL and that bloody message came up on the tracks up at Shark Bay. Tried everything back at camp, cleaned the sensors, cleaned the cams, disconnected battery etc... all to no avail. Nine hours back to Perth is a long bloody drive without cruise but more annoying is that you can't override the message or switch it off in order to use your dash info screen so you're left with the analogue speedo and tacho and a bloody orange caution light flickering away in the corner of your eye the whole time. Pretty sure the crash avoidance & ESC system had also disabled. Still under warranty and the dealer sorted it no charge (radar sensor they said!) but a right PITA to be sure. Needs an override and/or only come up every half hour or so as a reminder, not shut your whole info system down.

FYI. My 2018 GXL just went ballistic with all the messages, DPF warning, check engine crash avoidance off and limp mode. Researching on pradopoint I found an article suggesting low oil pressure. That was a bit weird but I just had the car serviced at a toyota dealer a week prior. anyhow to cut a long story short I checked my invoice for the service and sure enough they had put the wrong oil in my car. The oil for a

hey mate great video! love the 270! the black rails is an awesome feature they put on it , regarding the treatment from the dealership is pretty piss poor , you have invested a large chunk of $ into that vehicle , you'd expect great after sale support. i reside in nz and we have a 2017 dmax we use for work . purchased new from off the floor have now done 80,000kms , treatment is much the same regarding minor warranty claims . to the fact i dont have trust in dealerships to do servicing on the car itself . keep up the channel a big fan of your cooking . love to meet you at a show one day once covid has quieten down a little (cross fingers) cheers!

Very informative and helpful - humble approach to a service issue. I have a 2021 GXL upgraded interior (only 3,000k's) - thanks for the recommendation about the front seat covers. I am interested in the code reader you use - will most code readers do the same job or is yours Toyota specific?

You are perfectly correct in the way you dealt with the dealership. Luckily you had knowledge of the fault codes. First of all if you could have took it to another dealership and compared the two results. Is there an independent complaint authority in your country to report the dealership to. That is why people take there vehicles to a independent garage. But if you have a new car the dealership has the monopoly .

My Prado is on order and been following this problem for a while. I’m not even that worried about this oil pressure parameter issue. What I am worried about and hate hearing about is dealers in this day and age STILL trying to spin these issues as nothing. That bumper issue is a real red flag and tells me you should find a new dealer for servicing. They just saw the $$$ and an easy way to fob you off. Absolutely outrageous behavior. Thanks for getting this issue out there for the rest of us.

Definitely did the right thing Harry! It’s disappointing that it took so long for Toyota to own up to the error, and that you had to push so hard to receive an honest answer out of them. I think these days we all need to have the bit of initiative to investigate what’s happening with our vehicle and not just accept something we know doesn’t sound right. Especially in your case where there is obvious proof that they are denying the existence of a code being shown. Great Job mate👍

Thanks for the videos, you have paid a lot of money for this car and it is not fit for purpose pure and simple. Consumer protection law in Australia requires Toyota to repair it. I am keen to hear the outcome because I am on the verge of buying a new vehicle and the Prado VX was/is at the top of my list...keep up the pressure, you have paid for better customer service than has been provided.

If your car's playing up brand new or not and the place your taking it to repair and your gut feeling is they aren't doing they job you want fixed and your paying/payed money to get it fixed, keep on pushing but even more if it's brand new.

I am 100% with you, I am a mechanic and I have done the same thing with Toyota dealers they are not there in your interest, I would steer well clear of them and get a good local registered Mechanic, I service my Prado myself for this specific reason. Good on you for calling them out publicly, p.s don’t go to midland Toyota either

I went through these experiences buying a new Ford Everest. I went to multiple Ford dealers and they always went out of their way to attend to the issues. Currently on 96000k no faults or issues. Second set of tyres and original brake pads. Toyota need to step up.

I've seen a few posts on the Toyota/Prado FB pages with similar issues which were related to the incorrect weight oil being put in from the factory. Might be worth looking into that to see if it's relevant.

Good on you mate, I and a few of my friends have had very similar experiences with Toyota dealerships and it is very frustrating. The latest I have got to know is that one of my friends was told after multiple complaints that his 2018 Hilux which has the same engine as the Prado had to do a timing belt change after just 30K on the clock. Just not sure if Toyota is the reliable option in the market anymore.

You are being very fair about the whole process............ I watch with interest on numerous other channels that Toyota dealerships have a history of not accepting liability for known issues........this is just another one. For clarity, I have no vested interest as I own a different brand of vehicle.

You mentioned the pits and being legal. Silly question if I may, but haven’t you got a 2” lift and larger tyres hence are over the maximum 2” lift for WA? Just keen to know the details. Does the GVM upgrade also comes with the engineering to certify that increased lift?

These type of accounts are exactly why I still drive a 1992 80 series Landcruiser. In the 20 years I have owned it I have never been anywhere near a dealership or a mechanic, I do it all myself and am proud of it. The number of people who have said "Ah an 80 series, I used to have one of those, Should have never sold it".
