I feel you mate!! When we had our boy i had to fully remove my draws, in a GQ, for access to the child restraint point. Lost so much useful storage. I have had a few thoughts on redesign but am yet to pull the trigger on a rebuild. Also we have a 46kg bull arab/dane cross and a Bandog cross puppy that will probably hit 35kgs.. so im gonna have to get budget friendly creative, will probably end up with a small trailer to be honest... oh well thats future Sams problem for now 😅

Love the content mate and all the best with the little one!! This is the problem with overdoing your rig when kids come along. It's not just a baby seat but all the stuff that goes with them. Usually another baby at some point, prams, portable cots, scooters, bikes, toys, carriers, nappy bags...the list goes on. That's why we went to a light weight camper trailer. The kitchen is so much better than anything you can put in the back of a car, water storage, sleeping area, batteries, fridge, storage. Everything rolled into one small camper. Then the car stays free for the pram, clothing, bikes, scooters or whatever else you want to bring. Also not lugging all that stuff around when you don't need it. Would never go back to camping out of the car and having to play tetris all day.

I’d actually prefer it under the seat than next to him. It’s locked in hard by the front seat and can’t slip out - even if there was no baby seat, it can’t come out, I have to slide the seat forward all the way to get it out.
@PlayNicely2
@PlayNicely2 2 жыл бұрын
Be very careful with what kind of gear you keep permanently loose in the back seat area with Bill in the car. I thought I saw your tool bag under the car seat. In case of an accident (god forbid), loose items can/will get tossed around and you don’t want any of that landing on the little guy. Other than that great job reorganising.

I basicly keep the bare basics in my Patrol so can fit 2 adults, child and two staffies in the rear behind cargo barrier. The rest goes in the camper fridge food etc. Even though i would like a 35L or so fridge for the patrol for the day trips or weekends away with the boys. Defo works for us! The camper mainly opened up so much can just leave it packed hook up and go. No needing to load tents and swags and tables and everything into the nesrly already overloaded tow vehicle.

First - congrats on the bub!! Enjoy no sleep for a while!….. Now - what happened to the 10yr tourer??? I thought it was a careful selection of gear and planning, however It didn’t even make a year before big changes… quite a bit less including the split water tank! It may have been an ambitious title as I think the best touring vehicles are constantly evolving and adapting to a persons current situation / trip / family /pets / gear etc….
@firetofork
@firetofork 2 жыл бұрын
The whole purpose of this was to try and create the 10 year tourer, that means testing, fixing, breaking stuff and taking you along for the ride. If it fails massively, I’m not going to hide it, I’ll own it the whole way. But removing 2 drawers from a functional setup is not exactly a failure, it was part of the plan to be able to make adjustments quickly and cheaply to the drawers.
