Totally agree about Zara. Their stuff almost always looks better in pictures. I also find their sizing is tailored towards 6 foot + models so their pieces are absolutely massive! Having said that, their origins collection sometimes produces a gem. I managed to get a really nice wool jacket from that collection last year which is the only piece I've found from Zara that actually fits me!

I went into a uniqlo store for the very first time in my life. I mainly thrift, and my personal style ranges from punk, workwear, military, and western americana influences, so I've never felt the need to shop at uniqlo. I left spending way more than I thought I would, and honestly I'm glad I did. It's unbelievable how versatile so many of their staples are. I've been trying to dip into a cleaner aesthetic that still resonates with my "attitude", and it's insane how I'm able to weave so many outfits from only 3 pieces I bought. I still don't trust that they're higher quality than the tough, durable brands I usually buy from, but consider me a fan of uniqlo moving forward.

To my mind, Uniqlo has another advantage which is that they maintain variety in terms of style but almost all their pieces still work together cohesively. Obviously you *could* create monstrosities if you try hard but for the most part their pieces style together very well, which I can’t say for most other brands in this price range.

I agree with uniqlo taking the W. But I do want want to reminisce on how h&m was the one who took fast fashion to a different level. And have withstood the likes of American apparel, urban outfitters, heritage, cotton on and so on. To this day I prefer h&m denim/jeans because I don’t like the stretchy material most brands have these days. I still like my jeans/denim rough and rugged feeling. And I still have jackets/hoodies from a decade ago that have stood the test of time.

My toughts: Cos - Can be a bit hit or miss. But when I hit right, it's my favorite brand. Arket - Good brand if you want to play it safe. A little bit too preppy for me. Uniqlo - I think the basic brand is on the more boring side. It's in the collabs it gets interesting. Weekday - Too much fast fashion for me. Never bought anything long-lasting there. H&M - Usually too boring and cheap for me. But of course, you can find something good there.
@kilipaki87oritahiti

I love Weekday, even though they are a bit higher on the price range with their clothing compared to H&M. But since launch the quality has gotten worse. Not just Weekday, but most clothes mow days are shite, especially with the stitches and with the buttons, it’s not made to last. Like the buttons aren’t sown on properly so they will fall off after the first few wears. Super annoying as I don’t know how to do buttons nor do I have a sewing machine as with newer ones they have this feature where you can sow on buttons. Besides that both Zara and Weekday still discriminates against plus sized people. Weekday only makes tops/jackets/coats in big sizes, but their bottoms and pants/trousers are seldom wearable if you’re big, unless they’re joggers/sweatpants. Zara doesn’t make plus size clothes at all. I used to wear Zara when I was skinny back in high school. I like Cos and Arket, but wouldn’t call them “affordable”. It’s basically Zara, but higher quality and more expensive… also because most brand no longer make products in leather anymore, clothes like biker jackets or “leather” jackets now feels cheap. Jack & Jones makes faux leather jackets that feel more premium… H&M too has fallen in quality compared to the past as a kid, when I used to only wear their clothes as that’s what we had. I’m poor btw. Arket and Cos are the high end brands from H&M. I didn’t know this until recently. Fun fact: in the western Germanic languages like Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish, except in English, Arket means: “paper sheet”🤣🤣🤣 And I dunno about Swedish and Danish, but in Norwegian Cos aka Kos means “cozy/snuggle”🤭👀🤷🏾‍♀️ Weekday has great quality outerwear especially coats and jackets. Even the synthetic knitted sweaters/jumpers are super warm. Their bombers not so much, but depends on what you layer it with. I especially love their hoodies if thick and 100% cotton. Wear them all year round.

Cos is the winner for me. Though, I have to admit that certain collections don’t work for me either and I have to skip them until they make smth I like. I’ve been buying from Cos for the past 10-11 years and those items would always grab attention due to unusual cuts. It’s a pity 😅 that it got so popular in the past few years and now you can see more Cos lovers. As for Uniqlo it makes good basics but their shops (and collections) differ from country to country. I’ve been buying from Uniqlo while living in Asia and now in Europe. It’s just quite different 😄

On Zara, they often come out with some special edition pieces which are quite good. Last year they did a collab with Studio Nicholson and I got a hoodie from that line and it’s head and shoulders above a regular Zara hoodie. But overall, I would crown Cos. Also, Arket has the best classic leather shoes.

I look at the materials before I order now at Zara, so my experience hasn’t been too terrible. The origins collection and their other brand, Massimo Dutti has much better quality and most pieces use quality fabrics. I don’t recommend their trousers for anyone above 6’0” since it’s quite short

A small marathon session of watching 13 videos in a row. I’m slowly getting into Arket, although you do need to check what sort of fit the item is. Zara, from what I see with both male and female colleagues is that they have return or change things often and I hear the staff is not so friendly.

Abercrombie & Fitch have improved like crazy over the last few years and for trousers are probably the best of the bunch compared to the ones above because they offer so many sizes and colours. Worth adding to the list for the next review imo. Pull&Bear is also a sort of slept on one, they're like a cheaper Weekday imo but maybe not as good.

@georgegoldie7007 A&F trousers have pretty bad material selection, just a quick look and all I see is polyester, viscose, and elastane blends.
@georgegoldie7007
@georgegoldie7007 Жыл бұрын
@@pr33tu_ well this is the thing... If we are talking about affordable basics then material us usually the main thing that changes the price. So you will always struggle to simultaneously find great materials for affordable prices. If you're talking about great products despite lower quality materials then I think A&F fits the bill pretty well. And if you look at brands like Folk or other mid/high end basics, they often have blend fabrics too but for lile 100% the cost. Pick your demon I guess haha

Anyway, everyday I do touch and see a lot of items (cause I mainly do the tray-work) and, to be honest, I would check thrice before buying it 😂 (But I did but our men’s jacket which is a twin-brother of Carhartt Detroit because I’m kinda broke 😂)
