These scratch builds you are doing really improves this old kit, Harry. I was looking at the Amati site at their lovely version of the Bounty, but I think this old Revell plastic one, with your changes, gives it a run for its money! I think also, it's fun to do these things as it makes the model more of your own, more unique too.

It was such a fun thing to do and made me forget my worries at the time. Now I scratch or 3D print any changes I want with every kit I build.

Hi Harry Love your videos. Learned so much from it! I am currently building this Bounty. Got it cheap and thought it doesn't take long. The deck I sanded flat and used the wood veneer I saw on another video. Then scratch build the everything on deck. At first I build and painted the masts from the set. But they are so easy to bend. So I also decided to screw that an scratch build the masts from wood. (only keept the platforms with added railing). Also was inspired by the block article "bounty by baker" and ordert hundreds of little blocks (cost me more than the set itself 🙈) and currently rigging this ship completely including clew lines and so on. It was only planed as a summer project. But currently a bit over a year into it. But I am so happy with the result. To a great extent thanks to your channel and the techniques and inspirations I took from it!

Very good video Harry . I have indeed been afeared of using plastic card and those tips will prove very helpful . It was also good for me to see you needing to make adjustments or take more than one try to get it set properly . I get frustrated if I don't get things set the first try . I also realized I have the blade in my Fiskars knife upside down . I've always liked the fact that it doesn't roll off the table into my crotch . And, after playing with it , the knife...not my crotch, I see how much more control I have . Well done mate!

Harry!!! You ol dog. You can build a kit straight out of the box, and have a model to be proud of. And you can go further, and add your own touches that can take your model to another level. Use your imagination, research, and the willingness to take a chance and go on. No matter what you decide to do. In the end Its all about the fun.

As always I enjoy watching your videos. Scratchbuilding is my piece of cake also. My method of cutting rod is to place the knifeblade on the rod and then rolling it back and forth with a slight pressure on the blade. It's the same way you cut Albion telescopic tube. If your underground is slippery, I find it very helpfull doing this on a piece of fine grade (500/600) wet and dry paper. A tight, non-skeewed result every time.

I think you are absolutely correct! Have you ever built half-lap grates for cargo hatches? I thought about it for a kit, but never tried. I probably did not have the proper tools back then. I know now how to build full size grates from wood now. I built mine as kitchen trivets for hot kettles and pans.

Plastic ship kits are an insult to the subject! I tried to build one once and got so disgusted I scrapped it and made paint mules out of what I could. Will never waste time on one of these again! hats off to you for sticking with it though!

I’d rather build a wooden model myself, but have neither the free time or money to justify one right now. So it’s convenient to just play with plastic.

I love watching you build and sound off. I have noticed the "banana" x-acto handle and it looks like it would be better than the standard metal rod. Where does one get that?
