Did one of these in the sixties as a boy and repeated recently after buying one at Telford UK IPMS show. Original was 17/6 old money ( less than £1)!. Weathered from various wartime pics - they became quite scruffy. Enjoyed the trip down memory lane. 🇬🇧

I remember building the Sunderland kit as a kid in the 70's so it was probably the same production run - you did extremely well there, it's not the easiest to build because out of the box it's half toy and half model.

Great build 'arry! This series inspired me to get a 1:72 Matchbox Wellesley, this one a re-pop by Revell from 1997 but even the box art is original. A very good model, just like the old Airfix ones and some similar work to get the fit and details right...

I have it on good authority, from a Tamiya fan boy, that the Airfix Sunderland has better moulding and fit than the new Italeri and Super Hobby versions. Sure you don’t get much interior and there is a little you can improved, but I am told the panel lines and shape is far more accurate… if you get an early moulding, remember it was tooled in 1959, then it fits well and has minimal issues going together. Mine was easy to build, I just enhanced it to 21st century modelling standards. Not shitty at all.

Dad flew the MkV with 209 Squadron, RAF. Sadly, I never managed to finish one for him before he passed away. Airfix really need to bring out a new tool of this legendary aircraft, in all marks.
