Hi Harry, The flu makes you almost sound like a grown-up😊. For the sink holes, I really like to mask before applying the putty, the thickness of the tape is usually enough to compensate for putty retraction, a bit of sanding with the tape on and finishing after removing the tape as you do. Thanks for the video, Harry and get better soon👋🏻
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
Yes that is also a good tip Yves… as for being a grown up, no! I refuse to grow up!

That's coming along very nicely Harry, and I'm really enjoying your build of the old kit. A while back, I built a kit with ill fitting windows that had a step where they should have been flush with the fuselage. Rotating the the fuselage and windows to horizontal, I filled the area outside of the windows with Mod Podge Gloss. After it self levels and clears, it looks like one piece of glass that fits perfectly flush with the fuselage. It was so simple that not even I could mess it up. It just occurred to me that the clear white glue that you are using would likely work as well with a bit of thinning if needed.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
Yes that technique works for small holes, but I was concerned my portholes were too big to keep the static cohesion of the thixotropic solution intact.

Hope you're feeling better. A cold or flu that won't go is really annoying. When I built my Sunderland, I had run out of PVA glue, and fixed the portholes with EMA Plastic Weld, a tiny little brush, and a steady hand. It took me bloody ages - put the glazing in, touch the edge with the smallest possible amount of solvent, and let capilliary action do the rest.

I thought your reference to the LGBT….. dyslexia society was both considerate and inclusive - brilliant as usual. Sorry to hear (edit) 'you are still' suffering, mate . With sin k'oles I've always preferred using plastic . With a hoard, sorry, collection of classic '50s and '60s kits I've acquired a reasonable selection of 'flash' (Saviour of the Universe !) That way it's plastic filling plastic. With regards to White, just lather on a coat of Humbrol 22 . Sorted 😂Pete (not sorted ! Had ambulance crew rescue me with the old heart again.)

Bonjour Harry, have a cold to mate ,been a month of wipping my nose and coughing my lungs out , great video Harry ? Why didn't you put some tape down first, then aply putty, then you only have minimum sanding? 😊😊😊😊😊😊have a good one mate

I often do add the tape first but it was better to have it off to show the rivets clearly in the video and I had no time to wait for putty to dry.

Hi Harry I hope you are well. My comment is off topic however I just needed to share it with you and I hope you can gain some profit from it. Here goes. I have also realised to day why physicists call gravity a weak force. It is because gravity waves radiate out from the centre of mass and at the centre of mass is zero! Zero the great weak nothingness radiating out in all directions a profound gravitational influence! At the centre of self there is zero, nothing with a sense of self orbiting about one’s central zero, via a hopf fibratic spherical pattern! How wonderful that humans discovered geometry all those years ago. Influence is a gravitational wave function, radiating out from one’s central zero, passing through ones orbiting sense of self whereby collecting a unique differential combination metaphysic, linguistic content and or physical action, that continues to radiate out to influence all others about oneself via one's inner and outer emptiness and orbiting sense of self. Please share this with anyone who you think can get something worthwhile from this. I thank you for who you are and all that you do. Kind regards Scott Foster
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
Yes that was a little off topic Scott, but quite profound. Almost like one of my esoteric Gooch videos. Food for thought.

Sinkholes can be a pain on older models. Working on one where three parts have them, each 1mm deep. I use sprue-goo to fill them personally. Get a blob of it an put in the sinkhole. Leave for a couple of minutes and then press it into the hole. Use a small rod next and roll over it to level it off and remove any excess. You need to leave it overnight to cure but it cures solid and sands smooth. In regards to the missing window I'd use Micro Kristal Klear to form a new one. Fill the hole with it seems it forms a thin skin across it and it cures clear. It would also be level with the fuselage.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I ran out of usual sprue goo type filler… Perfect Putty still works, however I could have plugged the holes with spare sprue, then used less putty… haven’t dealt with such large sink holes in years, forgot all the tricks. Don’t have Kristal Klear, and I think these portholes on a curved hull might be too large for that to work.
