I have absolutely no interest in modeling sailing boats. Yet I still watched this entire video!

I’ll never attempt a model sailing ship without first having these superb tools in hand, Harry. Well done. I’m hunting for a HMS Prince or the Victory, wish me luck. I’ll only ever build one sailing ship in my life so it has to be one that’s worth all the hard work. 😄

The IMAI kits are also worth seeking out as well. Very well moulded classic sailing ships. I have the Napoleon and the Couronne. Even the Heller Sirene is a nice build and, because it is not entirely accurate, many second hand kits sell at very affordable prices. Still it is a lovely kit to build.

@@HarryHoudiniModels Thanks Harry, I’ll look into them. I had no idea Imai did sailing ships. 👌🏻

More great talent and ingenuity! If I'd recorded the same video, plasters would have gradually appeared on the fingers, the whole ship would be against a wall and I'd have been banned by KZbin for profanity! I really admire your skill and dedication.
@HarryHoudiniModels6 ай бұрын
Oh my profanity got edited out, only because trying to hold up the rigging tool and thread the shrouds on camera was a lot harder than when I do it on the workbench. But like any task you repeat and repeat, you will get better at it. So after rigging about 70 shrouds for this ship I will probably have the method down pat and can do it blind folded.
@rogerbowen57536 ай бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels Good one. Not sure if I could even stand up blindfolded! I do think of myself as having skills though. Most, if not all are self taught.

Great video Harry! I often wondered how on earth ship modellers rigged the sails with all those lines without going crazy. I have watched all of your instruction videos like this one, and even though I don’t build ships, I find the techniques fascinating. You have demystified a lot of the aspects rigging a model ship like the St Louis, and your fantastic tools look like a winner. I can’t wait to see the St Louis fully rigged.
@HarryHoudiniModels6 ай бұрын
Thanks Gary.. Good to hear I demystified the rigging a little for you. There are many way to approach it and all work for each individual. I show my simple methods to trick the eye into thinking it is more complex. The truth is my eyes are so bad now that I have no hope of doing all the knots anymore, so I cheat.

Thanks Harry, my hand stopped hovering over the add to basket on the Golden Hinde after you featured it a few months back it got me inspired. This one of hurdles I was hesitant about but you have managed to make it so clear.
@HarryHoudiniModels6 ай бұрын
The larger scale of the Hinde makes it a much easier kit to work on. Double the scale of my St Louis, so the rigging is much less fiddly with twice the space to work in. I haven’t yet made a Rat Harp or Dead Run for that ship, but it would be an easy CAD if and when you want them.

Great jigs Harry. I have a wooden kit of my favourite sailboat (the Terror) and something like this will be great. The St Louis is looking good, especially for a plastic kit. Top job mate.
