I love that Harry always gets to delve into the local culture and experience how the locals live! The secret of Japanese longevity is indeed related to their living habits and food culture! It is very interesting that the way Japenese make mochi is exactly the same as the aborigines in Taiwan! I don’t expect that Harry had such a great figure and is also a muscular man. I have stayed in an old house with my ex wife’s family in Hagi in the Provence of Yamaguchi. Also went to the Onsen and relaxed in the water. I loved staying in Hagi, very different from England.

It's funny that ikigai is somehow very related to Nietzsche's idea of power, the power of overcoming suffering and struggles or essentially in being effective in facing them. Happiness is just an offset of being able to overcome suffering and ikigai's principle shows that for you to be happy you'd have to do the 4 principles.

We can understand Japanese culture when we learn about the unique spirituality that the Japanese have developed since ancient times. I suggest you read Tenshin Okakura's "The Book of Tea," published in 1906, and Inazo Nitobe's "Bushido : The Soul of Japan," published in 1899. The original texts of both books were written in English, and they are great books that you can't miss if you want to learn about Japanese culture and the spirituality of the Japanese people. However, I am sorry if I have already read both books because they are the most famous books on Japanese culture in the world.
