I’m envious of your meal, so delicious! Btw, do not worry because they didn’t overcharge you. It’s a very good deal since most seafood dampa markets/restaurants here are actually not too cheap but they have honest sellers who serve with quality. (it’s actually pretty cheap and those free scallops were just out of kindness, reflecting on Filipinos welcoming attitude)

Please dont say that they are taking advantage of you, which obviously you are taking advantage of them instead bec of your status. My people are generally nice and welcoming you should know that by now. Don't be cheap bro. Be like Ali @gowithali and no Its NOT a requirement for anyone to be gay in any marketplaces in the Philippines. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed of you on this video Harry and i hope you are reading this right now. They are not Hussling you harry, you are hussling and taking advantage of my poor people. I feel bad for them. You are privileged bec they even allow you to film their kitchen. I hope off cam you asked permission! I understand your british demeanor bro but it doesn't work in the Philippines. We Filipinos takes care of our visitors and we can even pamper you if we generally see that you are genuine by nature! This buy-to-cook method has been popular in Asia for decades, and that food on your table looks delicious and hearty; Carefully analyze the two restaurants, the waiter in the one you went to is more friendly, and the guests also make the atmosphere more enthusiastic; I don't want to be annoying, but honestly your shopping skills and luck in finding good restaurants are a lot better than Ali's; You are so funny that you go to eat other people's food, yes you are fortunate, not unfortunate, thanks for sharing!👍😃👏 P.S. In my country, if the fishmonger cooperates with the restaurant, there is almost only a fixed and low handling fee for cooking, so there is no need to pay that much, so I think the fishmonger didn't cooperate with that restaurant!

thats cool to hear other asian countries do this, its a clever idea. yes i thought the shops would work together but it seems not
@giannishen
@giannishen 2 жыл бұрын
@@harryjaggardtravel In fact, there are many situations! Some fishmongers have their own restaurants, and they may only charge the cost of some seasonings; some restaurants take the initiative to seek cooperation with the fishmongers, and they will charge a little more for the service fee! If in my country, after buying seafood, it really can't be that expensive to overpay for cooking! In fact, it is easy to judge that when Ali asked them to recommend, they did not specify which restaurant to go to, which proved that there was no cooperative relationship between them! But not every one is like this, maybe other fishmongers have their own cooperative restaurants! However, for me, the main cost should be ingredients ~ seafood, whether they cooperate or not, the cooking price charged by that restaurant really scares me!

expensive ? i am a chef here in north America and for the amount of food you just got with those canning size lobsters will set you back far more than what you just paid for. include the labour cost for the cooking just by judging from the amount of food that you both combined with your friend will probably set you back close to 250 dollars here plus tip lol. So you guys were still getting really fresh seafood dirt cheap.

P500 for those 3 lobsters was very reasonable. Lobsters are very expensive. He was not overcharging, and he was giving you free scallops as a "thank you." That's how Filipino vendors are. You could ask for freebies in the market. Just say "dagdagan mo naman" ("add some for free"). That is Filipino hospitality. :-)
@imnotsei
@imnotsei 2 жыл бұрын
He could bargain it for ₱350
@freedomianfenavidad418
@freedomianfenavidad418 2 жыл бұрын
@@imnotsei , perhaps if he just got one piece. But then again the cooking charge for that 1 pc would be the same. So that would make the entire dish more expensive. If he haggled for P350 for all those 3 pcs, the vendor might not be able to recover the cost (think of logistics and labor costs). Those who are in our markets are small time vendors who need the money to keep their families afloat. I feel bad when people try to haggle too hard with small time vendors. You haggle only when you feel the price is too expensive and/or unreasonable; not because you just feel like you have to. You gotta help those people survive too. IMO.
@imnotsei
@imnotsei 2 жыл бұрын
@@freedomianfenavidad418 Well, what I have said was just some technique 'coz if he had bargained it for ₱350, the vendor might sell those for ₱400-450. And I understand your point as well.
@freedomianfenavidad418
@freedomianfenavidad418 2 жыл бұрын
@@imnotsei , got your point too. Yep, that would have been a useful technique. In all fairness to Harry, although he thought he was overcharged, he didn't make a big deal out of it. He didn't whine. And he considered the experience all worth what they spent. So that's good. I follow a lot of vloggers, and more respect goes to those who try to "give back" to the locals and do their share to help uplift the communities that became subjects of their vlogs :-)

Super, time for you guys to enjoy fresh seafood (practically a sea to table experience)! Side note, when I was in preschool (in the west), In our class show and tell, I brought some homemade PH pastry after which the teacher asked if I had anything else to share, befuddled I said, "at home my parents eat the fish head as well" (in my mom's quest for fresh seafood, she goes to the wharf at ungodly hour). As my mom was picking me up, classmates surrounded my mom asking her if it was true that we eat fish head ~ needless to say I never saw whole fish with head on on our table since then, I just have issue eating something that stares back at me... Note that typically nothing goes to waste in terms of food in the PH... I'm sure you have seen in the street foods that they have made use of the just about everything, from chicken feet, intestines and other innards, to skin... I saw Ali have some isaw, hats off to him! Kudos to you guys make great content!

It's actually a fair price. Seafood in Manila is normally way more expensive because of supply chain costs. In provinces, especially in fishing villages and islands, you can get them half price or even cheaper.

I think vinegar with lots of onion and chili best for calomares. You can also ask them to lessen some sugar or any condiments if ur health continues.

I am not a big fan of sea food, but I do like my Kalamari :) You should try Red Snapper - that's a good fish!
