I go to the university in the city mrbeast lives in and he recruits a lot of people for he show from the school so everyone around here knows a bit about what his shoots are like. Don’t super love him as a person but he’s just a dude. Credit to him and his crew where it’s due though, he pays the contestants a day rate for the quarantine period and gives every single person a prize that essentially pays for the performance he gets for his video. These are a lot times broke college kids in the challenge videos, and I know people personally who have won things from the circle video. It was also a wildly uncomfortable experience, trying to get people to quit was apart of the game, but he also gave people incentives when they quit like even a brand new iPhone. He’s not collecting down on their luck folks and dangling a carrot in front of their face for entertainment. Some people were saying things about Netflix’s squid games like they werent paid at all for the shoot, especially if they were eliminated early. That should never be the case even for a reality show, they are performers on your set and should be treated with the respect of that. Their faces represent your product now, ESPECIALLY when you’re hostless. I am not a fan of mrbeast but I am an actor by trade so I have to respect when someone pays their performers well

@@soliniv1411 Generally that was the whole point. The show wasn't really interested in the fairness of the game so much as the social experimental/psychological aspect of it. They wanted to put down-on-their-luck contestants in a situation where the microscopic light at the end of the tunnel (that being the 4.8 million dollars) is being blocked by a series of tense and unpredictable environments and see how they'll react to that. It was kinda disgusting to behold, how a person's irrational fears and insecurities of others would cause them to wrongly target them and also how quick most of the people would resort to moral bankruptcy whilst justifying their validity for being there at the expense of everyone else. But that's what made it so intriguing at the same time, it really makes you question the true nature of humans and how deep-rooted our hedonistic tendencies can be once you remove the societal comforts and social axioms of our civilization.
@greenbeansnthings11 ай бұрын
No one gonna talk about how “life is fair. The same things that happen to you happen to me” is really ablist??? Some people are disabled and some people aren’t… that’s not really fair. But yea you gotta deal with the hand you’re given. It’s okay to express frustration on occasion because it does just suck sometimes. You just can’t let it consume you, which is it’s own challenge. Men like him make me so angry like I can cry through an experience and still make it through. Crying is chemically therapeutic!!!
@Shleepidreamz11 ай бұрын
Think you're reaching too far into it where he didn't really mean it to those that are disabled. I don't like him too, but I never heard one of the contestants being disabled on this show and if anything that would be horrible considering how the show irl and K-drama wasn't meant for a poor person with disabilities to go through
@greenbeansnthings11 ай бұрын
@@Shleepidreamz as far as I’ve read they didn’t do that extensive of mental health checks for this show, and I’m also talking about emotional disabilities. The wretching and dry heaving? That’s a physical response to emotional stress that was outside of his control, and some people take less stress to get to even that point. What made me mad is him continuously telling people to just stop crying as if it makes them weak. It’s completely belittling natural emotional expression in general, and not everyone was born with the innate ability to really control their emotions. Sometimes, you can only get yourself to physiologically regulate your body to keep pushing in your task and your eyes just keep on streaming tears. Also someone who is on the show to pay off medical debt is someone who has been affected unfairly than someone who has never had an extreme illness or traumatic situation sending them to the hospital and causing them to pay thousands of dollars. I believe the guy who had a panic attack and was considered to have the “most dramatic exit” is a cancer survivor. These kinds of struggles are things that are out of someone’s control and change someone’s life forever. Some people on the show were in tough situations and really wanted the money and they get emotional, it happens all the time in reality game shows. You can see people crying all the time on Survivor and Big Brother and the like, but I’ve never heard someone literally say that life IS fair and that’s why they shouldn’t be expressive of their emotions. All kinds of people are watching this too and that kind of talk is just way too prevalent. It’s a big reason why a lot of people struggling emotionally, especially men, never end up reaching out for help before it’s too late. I know this kind of analysis of the situation is really intense but i mean it’s based off of Squid Game and that’s part of the message of the original show

No questions about why they had to stand for 30 minutes at a time without moving in green light and red light and the game lasting 7 hours? that's so stupid who can stand still that long, why is there even motion sensing and adjudicators for that? the game in the original wasn't like that at all. Also they were in freezing cold and they even removed the startch in their shirts for the exploding paint to show clearly giving them more cold.

I know the pseudo-intellectual kneejerk response is to point out "participating in squid games is missing the point of squid games cause capitalism = bad" but the majority of people, who are forced to live in capitalism anyway, who watched a show that was funded by Netflix for the purpose of making a show that people would watch to justify their paid subscriptions, really just like the idea of going "hey, I wonder how I would do in these kind of games" and that's where this base interest is coming from. I don't think people are really missing the point so much as partaking in elements of a media they like, and companies attempting to supply that for personal gain. Something that people do all the time with media they like. it's fanfiction roleplaying. These contestants are getting excited about the beds because it reminds them of the show they liked. It's like getting mad at LARPers for wanting to partake in swinging swords and flinging spells, and trying to remind them that due to the lack of medical help back then you'd die from nearly any injury. When you remove the "forced to play out of poor desperation" and "if you lose, you fucking die" aspects, it's another fucking game show bro, which we've had for nearly a century. The real issue is that this gameshow sucks due to negligence on the company's part.

i have nowhere else to rant this but can i just say ashley (#5 on the bridge) made me so mad! like she refused to go for Trey, resulting in him being the bigger person and getting them two extra safe spaces. She then goes and IMMEDIATELY demands someone get in front of her, which #6 does because he's just a really good person, and I think everyone wanted to keep it going. Mai saw this and decides to try to eliminate her because that was a shitty thing to do. Yet somehow, everyone (including Ashley) seem to forget the bullshit she pulled in forcing Trey to get eliminated, and literally EVERYONE turns on Mei??? Everyone even claims that she's "not being a team player" and "targeting Ashley" and everyone claiming that Ashley was just so sweet and likable (popular) ughhh And THEN when Mei was keeping her distance, Ashley talked shit. When Mei DID go to talk to Ashley, she was aggressive and literally gaslit her? Mei called her out very politely about what happened and Ashley tells her this shit about how she needed to IMMEDIATELY talk to her about it and how it actually didn't happen and how Ashley DID jump when needed. I also wouldn't be this mad if Ashley wasn't doubling down on her social medias and in interviews and sees nothing wrong with how she acted and how she treated Mei and Trey, because oh my god the narcissism and entitlement in that girl made me mad I was so happy she got eliminated. As a neurodivergent person I hate when popular people are kept safe from consequences just because the majority likes them and she made me angryyyy

So I have a few thoughts on the show myself. *"Jesus had to compete, so i have to compete." Um, did I miss the Bible tale where Jesus had to compete? He was an unknown for 32 years of his life, and then ruffled too many powerful feathers. Player 432 was delusional. *Battleship was definitely run poorly. There are so many ways that could've been done better. I either would have had the whole team lose when all their ships were lost, or at the very least eliminate all the players that were hit, regardless of their boat sinking. Only playing until two ships on one side sank did not feel satisfying at all. *I'm kind of ok with them not having a main character. Korean dramas seem to like to introduce a lot of characters, some of whom grow in importance and some who are cannon fodder. *Everyone except one person seemed to forget about 243 (or was it 234?) not wanting to jump as they all informally agreed. Then they all agreed to only nominate themselves during the die rolling? Noble, but i found it very boring. Especially dumb when the game designer said, "I'm good at rolling 6's" but still nominated herself. *I know it's just a game and not actually to the death, but if you're going to imitate a death game, can you at least try to pretend the stakes are actually that high? All these people talking about what they'll do after they get out, but the Squid Game contestants in the show didn't really have that option. I think it was only 24 people in the show didn't decide to return to the death game? Even the Mr. Beast version gave people the chance to drop out after a bit.

director was optimistic but a little trepidatious about it before it launched, i havent seen any comments made after all of the controversies. seems like the input the creators provided was that if they make the reality show, it should be more light-hearted than the show, as it is for entertainment purposes rather than making the same social commentary of the og. imo thinking something more akin to a korean competition show. i doubt the creator will respond to the backlash, as they likely wouldn't want to damage relations with Netflix (which tbh i can't blame them for as the reality show is getting plenty of heat without comment from the og).

I had no idea they were doing this, and I regret ever knowing. Teasing the tug of war only to do battleship instead is pretty cool, but it would be better if they actually edited correctly to maintain the tension. But that doesn't work without the Squid Game branding, and this seems like it would've worked better if they didn't worry so much about channeling Squid Games directly. If they actually don't pay people the normal fees for reality TV casting, I gotta say? That's really low. A lot of these shows will say that contestants go home with nothing, but they still get some kind of appearance fee, especially if they make it deeper into the game, so I don't care how big the winner's purse is; if you've got me for a 17-hour day of filming, pay me, even if I have to sign an NDA and tell the media I didn't get anything.

It would have been more interesting if they had several small teams of producers who secretly sorted the contestants onto their teams. The producer teams would be trying to force wins and dramatic storylines while nuking the other teams' players, all while the clueless players continue on with the games. Would it have made the show any less of a hack? Probably not, no, but least it would have added something more to look at.

The orange juice episode is so annoying, that one challenge is only a thing for 20 minutes and then the rest of the 25 min is just talking, so boring -_-. The “get all the woman on” pissed me off, and they made the men go first on the glass floors ofc. I don’t care about nobody’s lore or motives except the finalists, they gonna lose anyway, just play the damn games. (Except the mom and son, justice for them they were my favourite.)

IRL dystopia that salutes jurassic stage capitalism via fandom and manifest destiny via narcissistic ideation (432). Cause it's all a game and we all compete. What happens when we stop playing and see the satire trough the looking glass? The problem with media illiteracy is clear, historically we have more possibilities at literacy. It really proves that we as a hivemind slumber and accept shit. This shouldn't have gotten out from the pitch stage. Anyways...the beekeeper's grandkids are a lucky bunch! That's a good ideal. ❤

The thing about the original show was it also focused on a small group of characters out of the large crowd of contestants. The difference is all those characters not only made it at least somewhat far into the game, but were compelling enough to be memorable and have their deaths matter, not die in the second episode after getting a bit of screen time.

It didn't feel fair from the beginning with stuff like people getting to choose an elimination just because they peeled carrots or even the chocolate bar(which doesn't sound like an advantage but from the way they talked about the food they were given i guarantee it would have been) then finding out that they let people who were eliminated back in and let some people move during red light green light makes it way way worse, didn't one of the staff literally get killed in the original for giving a player an advantage? That means the killers in the original cared more about having an honest competition than Netflix did Also when he walks up to 203 and says "didn't remember if it was 3-0-2 or 302" was the dumbest thing I've ever seen and I was glad to see him go
@ironman145811 ай бұрын

@ironman145811 ай бұрын
"didn't one of the staff literally get killed in the original for giving a player an advantage? That means the killers in the original cared more about having an honest competition than Netflix did" They turned off the lights on the bridge to show that the game is not fair.He should have lived but they changed the rules of the game so he would die. No matter what the game will end with one person alive and everyone else dead, its not "fair" What you are thinking about the hosts in the show prioritized is "equality"; they talk about every one having equal opportunities because outside of the game they were discriminated against. The people on the show who gained an advantage through cheating was not "equality" because it was not available for everyone, so they were killed for breaking the equality of the game. In the instance of peeling carrots on the show everyone had the choice to volunteer, but most chose not too because they were scared to be eliminated. So it is fair/equality in that sense. It is fair/equality because everyone who was eliminated could have chosen to volunteer and not been in that position. Another example of how the original show is not fair and provides advantages/disadvantages to people is also in the glass scene, the ones with low numbers are sentenced to death while those higher numbers are pretty much guarenteed to survive. They have no problem with "advantages" and don't care about "fair" competition or they would not give all players different levels of advantage, as long as there is "equality" and everyone was free to choose whatever number they wanted. Same way people who chose to volunteer to do carrots had an advantage, people could choose any number they wanted, the option was available to everyone, so it is equal and fair. I hope you see the difference now between volunteering to take a risk that could be advantageous or disadvantageous and the cheaters on the original who were killed for breaking the rules of the game to gain an advantage that was not available to other players. And the original game is rigged, to think it is supposed to be fair just completely misses the point. But Im guesing you didnt really watch the show based on how you're talking about it. Edit: Another example of the original not being fair is Ali's death when he gets tricked into giving up his marbles. He shouldve have won but they do not care about "fairness" they care about "equal opportunity" If there was equal opportunity for the carrot peeling then it was perfectly aligned with the morality of the show
