My happiest memories are that of milking our cows with my late father and our old sheepdog barking on a morning as she would automatically go off on her own to fetch them through the land to the gate ready for the morning milking. My mother would make cheese and would make a wheel for the harvest festival which folk would bid like mad for, mind you she did make good cheese. But like many small farmers we were pushed out and were forced to sell our herd which was probably the most upset I'd ever seen my dad after years of having a dairy herd. But well done Harry it's nice to see the new blood taking such an interest and I hope you keep it up as we need to keep our British farmers and their wonderful produce that they produce and feed the nation. Well done lad keep it up.

Its a right of passage when doing your first milking to be kicked at some stage...its inevitable, Harrys doing great for his stature, and doesn't seem scared at all, when i was his age doing my first milking we were still on bucket milkers which was its own challenge. Harry comes a cross as such a mature pleasant young man, a credit to you Richard...and mrs C too.

It's your right as a Dad to torture your kids as you see fit 😂 . Both Jack and Harry did a wonderful job, and your cows are lovely! I sincerely really like watching them move around and watching their patterns. It's relaxing (for me, obviously not for you guys though since you have to move them/milk them/etc)

You have done very well their Harry, and yes you do have a problem reaching under the cows to put on the cups. But you are just a little short at the moment. At least you have a go at it and you do very well.I started milking in a similar dairy as we call them here [walk through] [parlor] as they are called in U K ] I converted my dairy to a heringbone and we had 8 per side and then milked more cows and went to 10 per side and we used to milk one side and then change over to the other side. I use to have 150 cows in my herd. Here in Gippsland in the state of Victoria, Australia. There are many 400 to 800 cows around here to today and they have up 50 cow rotary platform Dairy's [Parlors ]

Hi Richard, great video it takes me by to when I was a Ladd milking cows in a parlour just like yours.we have a parlour just like yours but we don’t milk and have took the parlour out and have built calf pens in it’s place .it’s great to see Harry learning to milk and you in a quiet manner telling Harry to talk to the cows that’s very important so that they know you’re there that’s important technique with all cattle and it makes it so much easier when you need to handle them as they are a bit more at ease. There’s no better way to learn than to get stuck in well done to both of you.👍

Hi Richard. I really love this video. Seeing great memories being made is so heartwarming. It took me right back to the late 70’s 80’s. My dad was a traditional letterpress printer who set type by hand. He had his own business for about 45 years and now would make a huge hit on KZbin if was still running. I used to be fascinated by the machines and would be allowed to pretend to use one when turned off. As I got older and bigger I began to do certain things with then under strict guidance. In the end I could work one on my own. I did work for my dad for about 4 months between leaving school and joining the Royal Marines Band Service and loved spending time with him learning a dying trade. I was probably one of the last to learn the trade as it once was. Well done Harry. I can feel his frustration being too short at the moment. He doesn’t want to wish his days away too soon, it will come. Take care and thanks again🙏🦙

You need a shed 18ft wide 10ft at front pit and 2ft 6inch per cow and approx 10ft from last cow to back gate. Build it slowly ATL have really good products check them out. I can help any time.
