On Autotrader just now, if you were so inclined, you could buy an ultra low milage V12 GTC4 Lusso + an ultra low mileage McLaren 720s Coupe + a low mileage manual Porsche 992 GT3 Touring for just about the same combined money as this Purosangue. Bonkers?

To me the answer is a used FF. The V12 and the power train are all there. They look better. They have buttons. And if it blows up the four wheel drive as they often do, you can replace it and still be miles ahead.

The car looked fun and sounded good on the Alpine hairpins, up to the point where you are staring at the back end of a coach. Otherwise I think a 10 year old Volvo XC60 would have been more comfortable and perfectly quick enough on a congested autoroute for around 4% of the price. Bonkers. Love the road trips!
@neilturner6749
@neilturner6749 3 сағат бұрын
Why use a 10 yr old XC60 rather than a new one to make the comparison? And, having had the misfortune to have once been given an XC60 as a courtesy loan car, I can’t imagine anything so uncomfortable for a long journey. Volvo should make the XC60 much more expensive but then give the buyers some actual suspension rather than the wooden blocks they clearly use as a cheap substitute!

Fantastic review. Thank you Harry. I have done 3,500 miles in mine and have similar feelings - absolutely love everything about the car bar the interface, and delighted Ferrari are going back to a central screen in the 12Cylindri. And also, apparently, proper buttons on the steering wheel from March 2025 (at least for the 12Cylindri initially). As for specifying the car, I managed to come in about £80k cheaper than your test car; avoiding all the exterior carbon fibre (for a practical car, I figured the perfectly decent plastic was fine) and that the "design package" which seems excessively priced (to put it mildly!). Still a big premium over the 707 - but the way it drives, more like a sports car on stilts than an SUV, is very special.

Ferrari are going after the super wealthy with this car which is definitely a good move for them, so probably it’s best to avoid discussing price or value - I’ve only realised this recently and previously fell into the trap of suggesting that for the price of this you could get a supercar, a van and an SUV. I’ve since woken up and realised that the target audience already have a fleet of supercars and range rovers knocking around and that this is just something for those “in between” moments. Personally as a car enthusiast I hate it, and much prefer the FF and GTC4 but through the right lens it’s understandable.

IMO, Landrover missed (another) opportunity back in the '70s & '80s by not sticking the Jag V12 engine in a Range Rover. Of course, the unions would probably have blocked it.

The windshield wipers.. you know how everybody hates on the 2010 BMW stalks, I thought it was genius and the way you could push water on to the windshield before turning the wipers on was absolutely brilliant

Italian make and electronics... ...thank goodness my former 1.3S Fulvia Coupé (a late series 1 from '70) didn't have electronics at all. There were 7 fuses for the whole car. All in all, this Purosangue is a slightly sharper-cut Mazda CX-30 for a multitude of the cost.

I have an FF and I think one aspect of this enthusiast hobby is "the deal." For me, it's not fun to spend top dollar for every car. Value buying can add to the enjoyment. For those reasons, an FF or GTC4 Lusso will get you most of the way to a Purosangue experience at a fraction of the price.

I remember complaining about how in the 308 you could flick the stalk to dip and accidentally turn off the headlights completely. Now we have to suffer these awful everything-on-the-steering-wheel buttons etc just for the sake of style. If Ferrari have an ergonomics expert they must be ignoring them.

Nice review and great trip to follow as a start of the year Harry! :D Just a reminder when putting all the packaging in the car, don't put anything on the floor behind the front seats. In case you get hit from behind the whiplash protection in the seat will not function correctly as the seat cannot move backwards when the bags are in that space :)

there isnt a car up to 200k, or even more, that looks considerably better than 2007 generation xv40 hybrid camry , except lc500 and 2020 previous ls 500 with glass interioir. designing car around driving slow light efficient car fast while driving for low emissions to whateevr extent you wish, can get you best of all worlds except havign excess space and stuff in it. most of even the sports focused car industry is for people who buy for cheap attention , not for actually enjoying the product itself much. pretentious environmental laws and garbage culture changes ruined things, most car companies didnt care to counter things, journalists couldve helped but most didnt even try because money from car companies buys more attention too

I smiled when Harry said he wants to see what this car is like on a family road trip to the snow as if it was last year’s Hyundai SUV. It really is a car for the one per centers who will pay for the extras and the hand painted badges. I’m yet to see one on the road here in Australia as our current exchange rate pushes the price to astronomical levels. Those steering controls would be a deal breaker as well. It’s interesting to see that in even higher end cars there is now a move away from screen tech, back to good old analogue dials and gauges. Screens are cheap and common, but analogue is now the new luxury for many super cars.

Could have three long wheelbase supercharged Range Rovers for the price of that Ferrari and still have change to pay for a year’s worth of luxury holidays. With a 350D engine you’d also get a good 700 mile range from 35mpg economy

Great review and alway love hearing the practicalities of a car, especially size of fuel tank, range and luggage space! Just one point, as someone who lives up in the mountains in Andorra opposite a ski resort. Brand new Michelin Alpins on any car will result in effortless progress on ice and snow, subject to ground clearance of vehicle. Four wheel drive system might help in extreme up hill conditions but 95 percent of snow grip will be because of the tyres.
