My dad was radio man on a P2V from 1950 to 1953. Squadron VP-4. Their callsign was Elk Lodge. He nearly fell out that hatch in the belly. He was walking back to the radio man position, and the hatch gave way under his feet. He was hanging out of the belly of the plane, thousands of feet over the ocean. He screamed for help, but there was no way the pilot or co-pilot could hear him over the noise. He said "Thank God I was in the best physical condition of my life. I don't know how I did it, but I managed to pull myself back in." He's 87 now, and still has nightmares about it to this day.

I used to fly with a guy that fell out the belly hatch after landing at JAX. They were still on the runway, though the plane had slowed to taxi speed. It was at night, so nobody saw him fall. He said the look on everyone's faces when he finally walked up to the plane on the ramp as everyone was doing postflight was priceless!

It's so great to hear both the jets power up and then the props start brring away before the takeoff! Thank you for this video.

It's nostalgic to see the P-2V again, and to hear the "Westinghouse Defuelers" run up!

Cameron Reynolds Of course! Once I was at FAB Museu Aeroespacial with my son and the Neptune in the hangar had it's rear door opened, so we could get in the aircraft and take some photos of the tight interior; we were wondering about long time patrols over the ocean inside that fuselage...
