man john's right, the sound design is baffling. the piano is, weirdly, detuned midi, and its like all audio (especially dialogue) has a weird bass EQ on it with the treble scooped out, then they've tried to make up for that by cranking the gain potentially on the actual reverb effect module; so it all sounds muffled when the spoken lines are quieter and when they shout it scratchily peaks the audio AND echoes like a cabinet plugin was slapped on, i mean it definitely lends to a surreal atmosphere even if it is painful 😂

I've rewatched this video about 3 times now because of how hilariously confusing it is. And while it is "fun" I really need to write down my own thoughts, just to get them out of my head. There are too many characters (?). I understand that a school hasn't just two or three people working there, but storywise if I am met with a new name in every single note I somehow think I need to remember that name in case it appears again or plays a big role. And again, I understand that to do expositions or explain the player what he needs to do next you have to use some sort of method. But the "flashbacks" are jarring, the notes make no sense and don't play a role? (mention of kids hitting the wall with a ball makes the player think they need to do this to progress, but the key to progress is on the ceiling??) And the voice recordings are ... silly? I am by no means a game developer but if you want your MC to remember something, why not make them say it out loud? "Ah yes, I remember Miss Johnson telling me that the key was in office 49 and not office 2." Why not use the journal for this? The letters and recordings, while entertaining, are nonsensical to me. Is it because English isn't MY first language? Is it because English isn't the first language of whoever wrote the "script"? Maybe I'm stupid or I didn't pay attention, but I have 0 clue what's going on. Why is the MC in this school? I understand that one wants the player to be left figuring out what the MC really wants, but the way everything is structured it's just confusing and at least for me isn't getting the desired effect of: "Oh, it's a mystery I need to figure out." Why is there a patrolling enemy even though it looks like everything has been abandoned for years? What are they patrolling? Are they part of the imagination of the MC? Why is the enemy blindfolded? Also the teleporting and weird camping of the enemy AI is just no good. The respawns are very forgiving, but ... I don't know - don't have your AI teleport in FRONT of the player? :' D Overall this game is just confusing. I don't know what it's trying to be or what story it's trying to tell. I only find it amusing because of Johns reactions and because of how hilariously bewildering some of the sequences are. There is potential? But who boi does it need work and some more eyes to go over all of this, especially regarding the proof reading. Also for anyone who read through this I am sorry? For using so many question marks?? But I am CONFUSION.

The school was administered really badly though, all the staff was cranky af. What did you guys get out of it story wise?
@samwisegamgee12432 жыл бұрын
The only thing I'd add on is that there are two principals/headmasters or something. One of them seemed like a decent fellow trying to save the school, while the other was a greedy fellow leading the school down to bankruptcy. Sounds like he paid off students to keep quiet about his shenanigans as well. There's also that teacher who despises one of his students (is it James?) and wants to kill him for his amateur piano skills. 🤣
@char12112 жыл бұрын
I feel like it's implied that students and/or teachers are getting abused and people get payed to keep quiet about it? There's the teacher who fantasizes about killing a student(I'm also thinking the student is James) and then there's a female teacher(Mary?) who gets payed more than the others and doesn't know why. When she asks about it the headmaster gives her even more money and tells her to keep it between the two of them which leads me to believe he wants her to feel ~special~ to get sexual favors or something like that?
