In my opinion, the graphics in a game like this is far better than something like 123 Slaughter Me Street. Of course, everyone has their own opinions, but I think well done 2D is MUCH, MUCH better than sloppily made 3D.

This is a really good horror game, not one of those silly mainstream jumpscare games with no plot and no story. This series has a really good story, with suspense and additional content if you really pay attention to details and if you follow the series - and this is great! The graphic quality of the game is just awesome, they create such an atmosphere with just pixel art, that rocks! And the scares were also really well made, the jumpscares are pretty well placed, there are some fast paced tense moments that just stress you enough to get freaked out. I really loved the series! And my fav was the first one, because of the scares. They were well done, like that one when you encounter the shadow at the end of the corridor with the code, and then you have to go back and close that freaking slow door rapidly before it comes to catch you, this is the best stressful moment of the whole series for me! The second game was good and had cool connections with the first one. Then the third one grandiosely closed the series with a well constructed end twist. Excellent game series! An example to follow for everyone who wants to make horror games!
@spacewaifuu8 жыл бұрын
13:52 "There is nothing I can do for you, and there is nothing in here for me" woah, that actually sounds like the lyrics of a song. The "plot twist" reminded me a little bit of the tale "The stranger" by Lovecraft, great trilogy!

1:05 Oh my god, that is the first time in so long I've seen a jumpscare get you that bad. xD Sleep paralysis is the worst. Mine only got worse when I developed a nice healthy layer of sleep apnea on top, now I can't even breathe during those episodes. Good times, good times!

I just LEAPED away from my desk at the first jumpscare. I really think the deliberate lack of jumpscares in this series really helped increase the effectiveness of it. It wasn't even that spooky or horrifying it was just set up very cleverly.

I don't think I ever recall such a subtle-yet-genuine reaction out of a scare from John to compare with the one at the start of this game. Sleep paralysis is a bitch. I remember watching Markiplier play this series about a year ago. I love comparing John's play-style and commentary with Mark's.

Hrm. I'm surprised you chased the traveler. It felt like you could have left and something else might have happened. But oh well, an ending's an ending. =) It's kind of rare to find a game sequel that improves on its predecessors, so good on the creator on getting better and better! The bottom feeder mechanic was a really nice touch. And of course that darn jump scare at the beginning got me. XD This is the kind of series I love watching other people play. If I played it, I would have chickened out really fast. But I want to see good games and their good storylines, which is where other players come in. They help add a filter that lets me stick it out. =) Thanks again for all the great work, John!

... I just realized that the "Shadow people" folk really look like sleep paralysis demons that one might hallucinate. During one of my sleep paralyses I saw a black creature sitting on my chest that stared at me with the white smoke eyes, like an inch away from my face. My hallucinations have never been mean, though. I don't think. I've been stabbed in the back of my head with an ice-pick, but even that was sorta gentle. Anyhow I really liked this series' ideas, like the shared reality dream and the different creatures. Was kinda left wanting for more though.
@hex1663 жыл бұрын
sleep paralysis demons are called the shadow people. however, there are other forms it can appear in, such as when a person is suffering from narcolepsy, they experience the old hag, who sits on the victim's chest, making it more difficult for them to breathe.

I don't know how you feel about point n' click games in general, but have you ever played the Submachine games? I wouldn't exactly consider them "horror" but they do have a very good atmosphere of isolation. The first one is my oldest memory of playing an online game and I've been a fan ever since. (The only one I might not personally recommend is the third game because the puzzles are very different from the others in the series and I found it tough to figure out).

0:50 Sleep paralysis is frightening. Not fun at all. Experienced it a few times. Good game overall. It kept a distinct style, which is good especially for the smaller games. I wonder if you could let that guy run away in the end without stealing his body. I miss flash games' heydays. Warfare 1917, Last Stand, Deep Sleep, Strikeforce Heroes, Burrito Bison, N, Canabalt. So many tiny games that were actually unique and addictive.

I've never experienced sleep paralysis, but I've heard it's terrifying. I know how it happens, but I wonder why. Like, is it something certain people are prone to, or is it entirely random ill luck? Either way, I've also heard that if you wake up and realize you're in sleep paralysis, the best thing you can do is close your eyes. To "wait it out" I suppose? It's interesting, but not something I'd want to experience first hand.
