Mules harvest 200 minerals from minerals you would have gotten later but tanks cost 125 gas and 150 minerals, if you save a tank by repairing it to full then you've spent a quarter of it's cost on repair, you end up getting 120 minerals and ~100 gas back from dropping a mule that doesn't come out of what you will mine in the future, that seems like it's such an obvious play but i never see mule drops to repair, if you repair 2 tanks you're way ahead, I don't know how much time it takes to repaire two or more tanks to full but it seems like it's shorter than a mule's duration. Why don't we see this way more often, on top of that it gets you 'free' gas out of nowhere which could be really needed at different points during the game. Not having to spend 125 gas to make another tank will leave it available to make other units or upgrades and every unit you save by repairing only costs a quarter, that's stupid efficiency, I always think that Terrans don't take advantage of this stupidly strong mechanic, they should have SCVs moving with their army just to repair and block surface area to tanks and other mechanic units.

I think “theoretically” It would be a good play, but in practice I have noticed that tanks usually get targeted really quick, quick enough so as there isn’t time to repair. You also have to take into account that this logic is very optimistic, that efficiency comes IF everything goes perfect, if not well now you lost a tank plus a mule

Exactly, it might be useful for rushed bcs or a thor rush where scvs died but venn diagram of things worth repairing and things you can't send scvs for doesn't have much overlap imo

@@johndread6160 maybe for an all-in rush it could work where there isn’t a big army or economy big enough to support quick reinforcements, BUT the new issue here is that 1: the benefit of an enemy attack at your base or in a central position is that you got time to breathe(repair) after the attack is over, you here are at their base so even if you fly the BC or get the Thor out that mule is gone by then, probably utilized less than half its potencial time so mostly a waste. 2: if you have a high “quantity” army the enemy units have to deal with the rest of your army so the mule can get ignored, this is a high “quality” low quantity army so they’ll just think for two seconds and realize that there’s like two units and one of them takes half a second to destroy

Starcraft is a game of resources: minerals, gas, but also build time, worker time (potential mining), information and space. So if we analyze everything together, Terran repair mechanic doesn't look OP: SCV doesn't mine when traveling with army and repairing, so here are some losses. Mule is seriously efficient at mining, so its a very tough decision - to drop a mule for slow repair on important unit (one mule doesn't do it quick), or drop it at the minerals to get income boost and get macro advantage/catch. The real efficiency of repair is not only how much resources you're saving, but also how much actions it costs, and on the first place: will that repair get you an advantage right now.

@@true_xander You're absolutely right in a lot of what you say, I think though that if you think about what you're saying you'll see it reflects that what I said is right if you think about it a bit more. I didn't mean OP literally, I just meant a really good underutilized utility. Yes I think there are undoubtedly times that mules repairing is the right answer and the resources you save from that eclipse the resources you lost from the mule and you eventually get them later anyways should the game go long enough. Consider sending 2 scvs around with the army, an extra 2 that cost the same as 2 marines, they could be mining but as soon as they save one tank you've paid for 3 marines and get 100 gas for free. I think it's under utilised. You're absolutely right and starcraft is a game of mechanics and prioritization however at the top levels using this tool effectively would be very effective I think. Having the ability to utilize this mechanic is more about the skill of the player rather than the inherent value of this mechanic. I'm not saying to carry the same kind of SCV army you carry around when you rush a thor with your army, I'm just saying the efficiency and utility of having extra units that you didn't need to use a production building for is huge.

@@xCrimLP Correct, tried again, it answered kinda differently. Protoss and Zerg IMBA with disclaimer text that its subjective. When I tried again and specified that I dont want any explanation/disclaimers why it did it, it put all the races as IMBA :)) You can also try clicking regenerate response and it give sometimes different answer. However, I think protoss was in IMBA set all the time when I tried :)

First game, you should lift cc, asap, and move workers towards opponenets base to basically go all in.. remember to return your last shipment of minerals... have teh CC, fly near the opponenets base.. or somewhere to theleft... slit off 4-6 workers to beginign mining again, the rest aid your attack.... Cancel the supply depot... etc. Other funny things is flying your buildigns and blocking their top ramp... definately winnable because zealots are so slow.... but meh.

If you wanted to be more aggressive and all in couldn't you just build 3 rax barracks outside their base for marines as a follow up to the 3 rax reaper with the minerals spent on the other buildings? If you already have map control with the early lead of the reapers isn't it completely safe and should push you over the edge with the drip of stim marines coming in super early?

I just saw someone's cheese and i think you should try it too. Depo then 1 rax and 2 gas fully saturated then orbital & tech lab on rax and factory. Starport, then switch rax and factory and research blue flame and produce 1 medivac and hellions. If you do it right, blue flame will finish just before you drop 3 hellions around 3:50-4:00 in your enemy's mineral line. You might be tempted to wait for 4th hellion but it's not worth it because the medivac will finish with the third. Also you might be able to squeeze an expo just before the medivac pops but I'm not sure
