I worked and lived by myself on Park Street. Minded my own business. Gangs were just getting out of jail again and recruiting. Walking home from the bars one night to my studio one of my friends got shot because of a gang initiation. I had been familiar with various gangs in the area since 95, no problems. Im picking up what you're throwing down but it's not reality for us all. That's also coming from someone that helped run an after school program for the most at risk youth in Hartford. Most of their parents were gang members.

People always sleep on CT. Where did its reputation as "suburban and white" come from? Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, etc as hood as anywhere else
@Thebrothaisback
@Thebrothaisback 2 жыл бұрын
You must be from the north or MA, because Stamford is not hood in the least! Stamford is rich with tiny pockets of slight hood, but with nothing to be concerned about. Bridgeport and new haven are true hood. No one cares about Hartford, although it is hood.
@Thebrothaisback

CT's rich and whyte rep comes from fact. Most of the state is that, except for places where they oppress blak Americans. From the Bronx to CT, to Bridgeport, its all rich. After new haven to the east, it is all rich with no other cities. Being in metro NYC and most of the spots are very rich and whyte. The hoods are from the legacy of segregation and oppression. Not to mention caribbeans migration.

Waterbury is Hood.Hartford, too. Stamford used to be, they tore down the projects / Southfield Village when companies / rich moved there from NY City. In Torrington, east of Hartford, lots of theft & ( white) ppl knocking on doors asking for money at 11pm and midnight, saying they " ran out of gas", and don't even have a car. A drug capital. The most rehab & " sober houses" in the state. In Darien, a wealthy white town, police pull over any minorities.They wait at the exits off I- 95. Lots of profiling in wealthy towns.

Hartford has a very low rate of home ownership and mostly absentee landlords. And industry left town in the 1960's and again in the 1990's, so jobs became very scarce. I lived in Hartford in the late 1980's and 1990's, and the effect of the recession then (when insurance and aerospace jobs left in droves) was palpable.

I was born in New London in ‘96, my parents were addicted to crack, heroin, and alcohol. We moved back and forth between Hartford and New London until my parents were arrested because of their addictions and my grandma took me in at 4. I still remember living there, it didn’t seem so bad as a kid but I am glad I grew up else where with more opportunities. My half-brother wasn’t as lucky, but he’s made a pretty good life for himself when he finally got out of the street life and gang mentality

I was born in New London in ‘96 and my parents were addicts. We lived in Hartford and one of my earliest memories was hearing a gunshot outside and footsteps running up the stairs toward our door . Someone shot someone and ran into our building. My dad had gotten wasted and left our door open so dude came in and held him at gun point and made us hide him in our laundry room. I was about 4 and still remember that. I’m so glad that my grandma took me in a few months after that due to my parent’a addictions. I don’t think I would have made it. My half-brother was sent to other relatives in the city and got involved with some trouble but he’s doing a lot better now. I still struggled with addiction myself but I wonder how different life would’ve been if I never left Hartford

I lived on South Marshall st. from 1955 to 1960 in the Garden Style Apartments. Next to our rental was a 20+ room mansion owned by the descendants who inherited it (I believe the Mareklines). The people that lived on the street then had good jobs at Pratt and Whitney or the Insurance Companies. Solid middle class people, saving up to move to the suburbs. The area was neat and clean. Once we moved out, within 5 years, it looked like a war zone. I can only imagine what it's like now....no way am I going to take a ride down memory lane. I blame the policies of the Federal, State and Local Governments for the decline. If there is no money for the rich in it, well.......And the people suffer BIG. It's a damn shame! Thanks for the video!

I would only deem 2-3 of these streets in the category of “worst”, my top street will forever be Martin Street (especially at night), dangerous area and to think that families live on that street is crazy. But Albany Ave, Magnolia and over near Nelson St. those areas are not nearly as bad. Cabot Street use to be a terrible street as well, it’s been cleaned up. I think South Marshall is still a terrible street no matter how many homes they put over there because until they get rid of that project complex and (twin brick buildings) The Carter (well that’s what I call it… New Jack City) tare it all down and rebuild, and clean up that drug traffic, that street will remain a mess. And to think the Salvation Army Shelter that houses woman & children is over there. SMDH

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) - Hartford police are investigating after three people were shot and one of them was killed Tuesday afternoon. Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said officers are working with two simultaneous crime scenes. He said they received a shot spotter activation around 1:50 p.m. at 614 Albany Avenue. Numerous gunshots were fired at that scene, with News 8 counting at least 11 bullet holes along the driver’s side and back window of one car. The second scene is located at 152 Mather Street, where a shot spotter activation came in around three minutes later. News 8 spoke to one witness who said he heard so many gunshots, he could not even count them Upon officers’ arrival at Mather Street, Boisvert said they located an unresponsive victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He said two victims were then dropped off at area hospitals by private vehicles. Police believe the homicide victim is in his 30s. They believe the two other victims are in their 20s and 40s. Police believe the scenes are connected. They believe there was a shootout of some sort that led up to the scene on Mather Street.

Hartford and New Haven were referred to as the mist elegant address up until the late 1880s. The last achievement of that wealth was when Wilson Waddingham built the grandest house the state ever saw. That was the Waddingham mansion in West Haven in the 1880s. Shortly after that Era the cities started to tax these opulent homes and the wealth of Connecticut went to New York city and that wealth built their grand estates on 5th Ave., the Hudson River Valley, and Newport which did not tax as of yet. You are correct about industry and in particular the insurance industry leaving. The stark contrast is New Haven which aside from having its problem neighborhoods has beautiful wealth neighborhoods all of a result of having its big industry solidly planted there. ' Yale' .

Born in Hartford and still in the area. There isn't anything dangerous about it compared to cities of the same size and makeup. I don't know if boarded houses and graffitti makes a place unsafe. I had to laugh at the end because it ended in my father and cousins gas station.
