I was blessed to meet Haruna Sensei several times at the Sei-Do-Kai spring events. Was even luckier to be able to spend an afternoon being taught by Sensei directly in the art of Niten-Ichi Ryu. Watching this video, I had forgotten how TIGHT his iai was! Every movement measured and precise, truly an awesome experience to watch him swing some steel.

Lucky. I just missed him by a few months. I started in 2002.

i love that fact that his Iaido is so strong even at such a high age. very impressive and rare to see

Indeed. It would be far stronger if he wasn't suffering from an illness at the time that he would eventually succumb to, two years after this video was shot. Haruna-sensei was always strong and he fought like a champ right to the end, practicing iaido like he was completely healthy, right up until his passing.

i know. it's a shame he had to pass away at such an early age. he has been a long inspiration for me as well, how he fighted on untill the end. i hope his students will pass on his legacy in the way Hanura Sensei would do

Oshita-sensei being the most visible of his students outside of Japan, most definitely yes -- Haruna's sensei's legacy is most definitely being carried on. In fact, his influence may be found all over the U.K., Canada and some parts of the U.S.

Hanshi Tatersall was Hanshi Haruno's student and Jiushin Kan Malta was lucky enough to host Hanshi Tatersalll at our dojo on a number of occasions. Both Renshi Chris and Renshi Roderick Bajada still practice and teach both their style of Eishin ryu to this day. May they both rest in peace.

wow, i'll never forget seeing him for the fisrt time and still, his returning of the sword feels like stoping a title wave with one hand with no dought a master.

seeing Haruna iaido got me to brush up on my Iai. he was the best example of Iaido. i consider myself privileged to see a few mins of his work is there any more free link to his work.

Hard to come by. Possibly in the future I might post snippets of what video I do have, but no guarantees.

many masters placed Katana for all times, after reached an enlightenment, or state of mind "no master, no Katana". on the lower level, "in one" with Katana, Samurais in the struggles showed the power of "live" Katana. no an enlightenments, no battles, times of show, of tradition the "squatting mind" with Katana. what from respect to Katana, the master will never done.
