I dry my leaves in the car, I lay them out on a screen or even flat cardboard and put them on the dash or even in the back seat, they are completely dry in two days. I do rinse my leaves before I start in cold running water to remove dirt ,then give them a good shake to remove most of the excess water.

The Mullein plant grows wild in my yard in central Alberta, Canada. Each plant produces millions of seeds in its second year, when the stalks can reach around 10 to 15 feet high! The flower blossoms can be infused in oil for ear drops. Thanks for the info & clear instructions on how to use the dried leaves🤗❤️

A lot of roadsides are sprayed for weeds so I’d caution that, but it is up to you. A simple rinse should be fine, but you could add a little vinegar to a quick water soak for extra cleaning.

So many others say not to harvest first year or until after the stalk with yellow flowers emerge. Why would one severely limit mullein to a container so crowded when most all of a mature plant is useable? I don’t get this
@DesertHavaGarden3 жыл бұрын
Not everyone has the climate or space to grow as a perennial 😉
@granmabern52833 жыл бұрын
AZ2Ozarks I was so glad to see your container full of mullein! I just found a plant beside the road here in Quebec and took a piece of the big seed stalk. Tons of little black seeds! I only took part of the seed stalk in case anyone else had been eying that plant....not very many growing near here. I had been looking for months. Two weeks later I drove past that plant and it had put out MULTIPLE flower seed stalks, so I guess my pruning it was the cause! Am looking forward to growing a planter full of mullein like yours next year. I already sprinkled seeds here and there in our yard so hopefully some will take, wild style. They are magnificent when they shoot up every couple of years. Thankyou for your post.

Plant lots of seeds 😂 Each plant is pretty compact so you’d have to plant several to take up a space. Mature plants that are in a climate where they can reach several years old will take up a larger space, around 3’ diameter.

That looks like Comfrey not Mullein..mullein grows in a rosette formation.

Definitely mullein 😉 There were many plants planted closely together because the hot desert climate was not conducive to growing it as a perennial which would allow it to form the rosette.

One expert says Not to boil your water, it destroys some important properties in the plant.
@PeleLua12 жыл бұрын
Hmm … are you sure they didn’t mean , don’t boil the leaves in the water? I can see how boiling the leaves in the water might destroy some properties, but just pouring the water over the leaves and then letting steep in cup is what I see everyone doing. I’ve also heard experts say to pour the water over the leaves and then let the mixture steep for approximately 4 hours which allows the properties to infuse into the water so every cup counts.

That's too much work. Take the leaves and put them in one of those insulated coffee travel cups, without the lid. let them steep in there for as long as you want then pour it thru a paper coffee filter the type that just fit over a mug. This filters out all the fine hairs and leaf particals for a clean drink. That rubber Manatee is made from rubber or plastic and hot water may steep out some of the toxic compounds in it, especially if its made in China. Travel cups make great vessels for all sorts off uses, they keep your tees, drinks warm for a long time, are often free with promotions or cheap. Toss the lid , in most cases its not needed.
