Love Your Lungs: How To Make a Potent Mullein Infusion
I am often asked how one uses mullein for its lung supportive properties. Today, I am glad to share with you this new video lesson on how to prepare a simple, yet, powerful preparation with the fuzzy leaves of mullein (Verbascum thapsus).
Mullein has a long history of use for supporting the respiratory system. It tones and soothes (demulcent) lung tissue into a healthier state to be used after illness (bronchitis), or insult (smoke, smog, etc); or during an illness: helpful in bronchitis, laryngitis, coughs (anti-tussive) (anti-spasmodic), and asthma.
Mullein is an expectorant, which means it helps bring out unwanted phlegm. All of this while having a calming effect!
This worthy, wild and gentle herbal ally is available to us worldwide. Who knows, some may be growing right outside your door.
Please view our other mullein videos where I show you how to ID, harvest and find this supportive friend. Links to those are here: • MULLEIN Deep Dive: Lun... , • MULLEIN Deep Dive (Pt.... , • MULLEIN Deep Dive (Pt....
To your health!

Had a coworker one time that insisted on working even though she had pneumonia. You could hear her (trying to) breath from the next room. I gave her some Mullein and told her how much to use. She said that she didn't believe in "all that herbal hooey" but took it anyway. Later that night (when she should have been going to the hospital) she got desperate and made some tea and drank it. She came in to work the next morning raving about how well and how quickly it cleared her lungs up. She's been after me for more herbal remedies ever since. Remember, before "modern medicines" all you had was foods, plants and herbs.

creativitycatalyst, It can be smoked as a cigarette or in a pipe for quick but short term relief (within 5 to 15 minutes for 1 to 2 hours). Or drank as a tea that takes effect in 20 to 40 minutes and lasts around 4 or more hours. Start with 1 Tbsp of leaves (dry or fresh) in 1½ cup of water boiled down to 1 cup. CAUTION Filter it before drinking. It won't hurt you. But it will give you a dry, scratchy throat for a while. I have never heard of anyone over dosing, so you can increase the amount you brew and how often you drink it with little worry. As a tea, it's also good for lower back pain and "stiff joints". I, myself, have never used if for back pain or joints; but I have had people tell me that it does help. Hope this helps and happy harvesting.

A random lady walked up to me and told me she had a cough for months that wouldn't go away and tried mullien and it cleared it right up. She was so happy she wanted to tell anyone who would listen. I didn't know her and immediately took is as a sign to remember the herb. Sometimes God shares information via strangers.

My husband when he was a firefighter- had to go into a house without an air tank because they were out. (This was maybe 2 decades ago) He inhaled a lot of smoke and toxic fumes. An native elder taught us about the herb. He was told to smoke it - NOT RECOMMENDED FOR MOST- so it would make him cough up the crap from the fire. He then drank the tea for several weeks after coughing up all the chemicals to finish healing his lungs.

I work as a nurse in an area of the country where a lot of our patients live away from the city, and have a semi off grid lifestyle. I've had patients for years talk about the benefits of mullein tea, even comparing it's beneficial effects on some infection diagnosis (usually ear infections or a bronchial issue) to some of the strongest antibiotics we would prescribe for those conditions. And most often, when we follow up with our rural patients they have quick improvement in their symptoms and are remarkably in better condition on their follow up visit (when we can get them in for those :D ).

Retired nurse here. Asthmatic w/massive lung damage from pulmonary emboli. Then rare lung cancer requiring removal of a lobe. After surgery I couldn't breathe. They would test me and then do nothing but order more tests. I was to the point I was looking for a hospice. (Large city w/specialized lung hospice.) After watching Dina's other video about mullein I tracked down some mullein tea. After a week I could breathe again. I got to the point I was forgetting to use my inhalers. Mullein is nothing but miraculous. I still drink the tea and always will. There is no lung patient that is too far gone that mullein won't make more comfortable. I swear by it.

Recipe: 0.5 oz dried mullein leaves + 1 quart boiling water Let it steep for four hours. After four hours strain it, but it must be strained particularly. Strain it through a thin cloth that’s non absorbent. The mullein has very fine hairs that if not strained through a cloth can get it in your throat*** and cause a coughing issue. Keep straining until there is no liquid left. Note: Originally I wrote that the fine hairs could get in your lungs because that was what was said in the video. However, some people are saying otherwise.

Thank you for mentioning the fine hairs of Mullein leaf !! I had forgotten all about that characteristic until I saw this ! I had bought several pounds of cut and sifted herbs and roots, mullein being one of them. I made myself a tea with the use of an infuser, through which some loose herbs had come. It caused me a rather long hardy and bothersome coughing episode, and I thought perhaps i had just used too much!! Now i know...! I think my next approach will be to follow your advice and make a quart or two at a time using cheesecloth to strain it, and NOT an infuser ball!!

Hilarious, I clicked this and an ad for poison asthma medicine came on 🙄 So happy to be natural and constantly learning how to naturally heal myself and my family. What a wonderful video. I love mullein, I have been searching and searching for it the past year, I found it the year before last but haven't had any luck since then. Thankfully I had saved some and was able to help my dad (a lifelong smoker) him and my mom were sick and mullein cleared their lungs up so quickly.

We moved to a new place last spring and much to my delight, there is a good stand of mullein right on the property. I saved plenty seeds. It's also a good "pioneer" plant. So even if you don't use it medicinally, by all means leave it there and let it do its job helping to improve the soil. From what I've read it will hang around for a few years and when its soil building work is done, it just sort of fades away and lets a new wave of other plants come in.

Iv been on an inhaler excabated asthma for 10 years when l got asthma at 45. Also been on predisone when it's really bad. Now l find l have to take more predisone to make a difference. Xrays say clear lungs. Tried Mullen tea didn't seem to work but l might give this a go. Laurie l hope you notice a difference soon. It can be really scary when you breathe won't come. I really find drinking lots of warm water helps to thin the phlegm. Coffee black or Earl Grey tea is an awesome bronchilator as well. By now you would think a cure for the different types of asthma would have been found. Maybe there's too much money to be made off the sick. I've also cut out dairy, peanuts, refined sugar, wheat . Made some what of a difference. But drinking lots of warm drinks def helps. Get well soon. ❤

@@tatzja8074 I don't but I smoke a pipe anyway. It can be harsh, a little hot, so I take very light puffs, so little I barely blow any smoke but it doesn't take much. It's something everyone has to figure out their own technique. I've read some just use it as an incense so that might tell us how little it takes. I dry it and tear off about a square inch of leaf, crumble it in my pipe and start with barely lighting it. After it's dried it still stays pliable, soft, but you can still crumble it and it burns. Myself I go slow.and inhale deep. You'll be impressed. It works better than any inhaler I've ever used to help breathe and to soothe irritation.

Dina, I received my bag of mullein from Amazon a few days ago. Immediately did your recipe for the tea. It's not a bad tasting tea. I'm at the tail end of a respiratory infection (again) and want this to end. So I drank the tea. It has helped with the residual shortness of breath. The doctor told me even though you kill bacterial pneumonia or bronchitis with meds, there is still a debris field in your lungs. Great. The first night I was up all night coughing up mucus. So much my throat was sore. The next day I lived in the bathroom. That's all I'll say. I would think mullein is also some sort of diuretic and maybe has a laxatative effect. I'm going to keep drinking it though. I want my life back.
