If I had to pick a worst song from AJFA, it’d be Eye of the Beholder. It just seems a bit repetitive. HOS has that awesome clean riff and the angry lyrics really come through in James’ voice. But the first four albums have no bad song in my opinion and the Black Album only has one meh song.

The 1991 Moscow performance of Harvestor is actually my favorite metallica song, just because of the shear groove. But I do agree with some of your points. 1. The intro drags on too long 2. When the main riff comes in after the buildup, its kind of a let down, BUT on the 1991 moscow performance it kicks ass. 3. I disagree on the verse riff I like it, especially the 'i give u take' part 4. The chorus is without a doubt the worst part of the song, defintely one of their weaker choruses. However, this song kicks ass and there's a reason why metallica performs this over most of the other justice tracks.

I've always like maybe a couple of the riffs in this song quite a lot, but I've never been able to sit down and listen to it beginning to end. It'd always bore me soon for all the reasons you mentioned, the monotony, the chorus that isn't energetic enough, the band taking too long to get to the point etc. And the worst part of it all for me is that the best riff (the one they play clean in the beginning) is a very small part of the song overall.

What's weird is I feel like I enjoy all the independent parts of it, but it just drags on and feels like it treads water, not really going anywhere. I get that it's "groove", but it's missing parts to really tie everything together IMO. Eye of the Beholder and Shortest Straw kind of do the same thing for me off Justice. That being said, I don't think any of those songs (or Harvester) are really "top 10 worst" out of their whole catalog, but I get not turning the series just into a St Anger, Death Magnetic hatefest, which would be too easy to do. @@BecomeTheKnight Nah don't get me wrong, i don't dislike AJFA at all, i just tend to come back to harvester of sorrow more so than both of those. AJFA is a pretty universally loved track but i don't think it's the best song on the album by far. Glad you know what i'm talking about with eye of the beholder though, lmao Anyways, i'm not mad about your opinion and i respect the fact you're honest with yourself and your subs about it, i really didn't expect this song on your list and that made it interesting!

I didn't expect it at first either haha. But just railing on the same 3 albums would get pretty boring.

I don't like the studio version as much as the live version '89-'93 But it's still probably the heaviest thing ever written in E

@@INTERCEPTOR-Official slaughtered is unbelievably heavy, but it’s tuned between standard and E flat. I play it in E flat and it works better than standard in my opinion. Brutal song, either way.

It's not literally bottom 10, no. But this song needs a little audience humility lol

I get not liking a "classic" song from a band you love. I have lately become a Rush fan and I don't even like Tom Sawyer and Limelight.
@GianMariaMarchiori10 ай бұрын
I think it doesn't open up because it's literally the point of the song. The harvester of sorrow marching. Maybe I'm wrong but I think it's like that. Also, I really like the solo

It's about the groove, this is a very simple song but the groove is so sick
@audiosmurf2 жыл бұрын
Your points essentially boil down to "this is cool; this is not cool." Off the cuff remarks without further reasoning don't really make for a good critique. Then again, this take would have been abominable regardless of whether the argument was cogent.

Hey Mike I can really appreciate your thorough analysis of the songs you have thus chosen. When I saw harvester, I was like wait, what how can he not like that song? lol. But honestly, your articulating points really do open my eyes to different nuances in a song that I hadn't fully paid attention to. Rock on bro! Very interested to see your upcoming selected songs.

Are you serious? Harvester of Sorrow is a great song. It’s slow and heavy. Yikes

I’m glad they didn’t trim the “fat” off this track. It would’ve been your standard radio pop format which is the direction they went on the black album. And that album fails in comparison.

Harvester of Sorrow is one of the best for me mostly for the mood it sets.

Honestly, I sort of agree with this pick. I feel like a lot of Metallica fans praise AJFA because it’s AJFA, without even questioning the material. The same thing with St. Anger, only for St. Anger it’s negative. But it’s the same premise, people hate on that just because everyone does.
@stinkystank6678 Жыл бұрын
I’m gonna have to agree with you. AJFA is a great record but the fact that the record having no bass is treated as a joke within the Metallica fandom is kinda wild. It’s a detriment to the enjoyment of the record.

First one I disagree with. I expected something like Eye of the Beholder, but I do get your criticisms, especially the ones at 3:30. I guess I'm a sucker for riff salad sometimes. EDIT: Not mad, this shit was hilarious.

Does it really matter that James sings the natural 2nd even if the riff is in the phrygian mode? You know, borrowing from parallel modes can be cool. Doesn't matter if they did it consciously or not
@Aesopos2 жыл бұрын
I understand you want to spread this series throughout their career,but i think you're talking out of your arse/ass on this one. This song has a tribal feel to it.Metallica are on their most "progressive" phase,so i don't think you should judge it as a typical pop song.The intro build up and the chorus are just what they should be.
@TheNyxCabin8 ай бұрын
Honestly, NOT A BAD SONG. But it's too overrated. The intro is good, the main riff is kinda boring and the choruses are bland af. The lyrics are good tho, also the time where the solo kicks in not good but the solo is good. Overall, this is a 7/10 for me, maybe 7.2 on a good day, but im sorry i just prefer other AJFA songs more.
