Pecans are my favorite nut 😋 We see the most interesting stuff on your channel. You will get your exercise pushing the pecan picker upper around. How did your peanut butter end up tasting?

Great in cookies but only OK on its own. Not as good as Jiff (which is my standard). Thanks for watching and commenting!

thanks for sharing the video, every time I watch one of your videos I learn something. why are your pecan trees so far apart. will they grow that big to fill in the gaps?

You have a lot different things on that farm.

I cannot find an unshelled pecan, not at farmer's markets, not at grocery stores, in Baton Rouge Louisiana - home of the pee can! Totally disgusted. I have to resort to shelled packaged ones that sometimes are rank. So where have they gone?
@PatrickShivers6 ай бұрын
They are more valuable shelled, so sellers of pecans shell them to increase value/profit.

I’m in NW Alabama close to the Miss state line. I’d like to plant some on my farm (for family). What varieties in my area to plant? Thanks
@PatrickShivers5 ай бұрын
If you are planting for personal use, not for marketing, I would recommend Stuarts b/c they shell easily. If you are going to sell any the local (Alabama) market wants Elliots. They have a great oily taste but don’t shell as easy.

Thanks! Yeah this is gonna be just for family to enjoy.

What sort of pecan tree would you recommend for Washington, GA? I think we are in a different hardiness zone.
@PatrickShivers2 ай бұрын
Hardiness zone isn’t a factor in selection. You should be thinking about what you plan on doing with the pecans and let that dictate variety selection. If you’re selling to local market you need to know what locals prefer. If you’re selling to commercial markets, you will likely plant an entirely different variety. Around here locals prefer Elliot. Commercial markets prefer a bigger more symmetrical nut. The Elliot is small and shaped more like a Hershey Kiss. I chose my main variety b/c it is similar to the most sought after commercial variety (Desirable) but is the lowest input due to its current resistance to scab.

If you want pure tonnage, and don’t mind a little extra work trimming younger trees get Cape Fear. They out produce any other variety.

Are your tree`s grafted?
@PatrickShivers Жыл бұрын
Yes. They come from Clough Pecan in Blackshear, Ga.

How old are your trees?
@PatrickShivers Жыл бұрын
I planted them 7 & 8 years ago. They were 6’ to 8’ tall bare root when I planted them.

@@PatrickShivers gotcha. So it’s safe to say 10 years from seed to fruit?
@PatrickShivers Жыл бұрын
Mine started lightly fruiting in 2018 (some trees). This is first year all trees in full production

Do you ship?
@PatrickShivers Жыл бұрын
I haven’t shipped before, but am not opposed to it. Where do you want them?
