We have two pecan trees. They grow large sweet pecans. They taste like waffles and syrup if that makes sense. We have to daily check the ground for them because we compete with wildlife. It's a good time to sit around with family shelling them and of course taste testing.

This here ole boy done got his legged pulled on the pronunciation of pecan, which of course in the South USA is pronounced "puh-kahn". Kind of like the way almond growers in California will pull your leg when they call their nuts "ammonds". I had it explained to me, after getting my leg pulled plumb out of its socket. "Back in the early days, they harvested the almond trees by hitting them with a large mallet. The result was that they knocked the "L" out of the word." But, that's okay, call em "pee cans" if you like. After all, we southerners keep one of them in our pickup trucks for when we get stuck in a traffic jam.

Pecan come from the Alcoa Indian word "PAHKAN" pronounced Pah-Kan.. A "Pea-Can goes underneath a bed." The word translates literally to "nut that requires a rock to crack." NOW YOU KNOW!! Say it right!!

Hi! I just identified some leaves from plants that appeared out of nowhere in my front yard - four of them and they are growing very quickly - identified on a plant identifier app as pecan trees. Is this possible? I am in Northern California. The leaf, with its pointed tip and serrated edges, looks exactly like the leaf of the pecan tree in photos. I have no idea why these trees would be going growing here except that I did feed pecans to wild turkeys for a while a few years back. Any ideas? Thanks

Money makers do not bring very much. This is a bad year for them. Normally any old orchard has one or two trees. Last year they were 30 cents a pound. We just left them on the ground

Just sold some good quality Sumner pecan for $1.10 per lb. Normally Sumners sell for about $2.25 per lb! I probably own over $100,000 dollars worth of pecan equipment, so there is no way to pay $5.00 diesel fuel, and run 4 tractors for a $1.10 pecan! I just quit and will let nature have the rest of them!1
