Yum! I like to add a half a lemon to the pot. It adds a delicious fresh flavor to the chokes.

Been trying to get to this point for years now. If i can just get a few to survive and thrive after being transplanted. I am excited to say that I have some tree collards/kale established. Really looking forward to eating those some day.

Hi there. I grow Artichokes in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 too. 👍 Your right, the Bees absolutely love the Flowering ones. Tip : If you leave at least x2 Inches of Stem on the 'harvested' Choke, you have a Handle to hold on to when peeling off those Edible Petals. This is what they do in France ! 🇫🇷 If they do good Cuisine, then they know how to prep them ! So leave that Stalk a little longer than what Alice did in this Video. Also cut across the Heart (side to side) just under the 'choke' thistle fibres. That way you will have a lovely smooth fibre free 'Heart Disc' on its stalk. Rub that into some Butter and Seasoning and eat it like Candy on a stick. 😏 Wish we had Eat-Vision, as you showed us your Cooked Artichokes. You Guys forgot the melted Butter with Salt and Pepper. That's the best part, after peeling off and nibbling those Petal Ends. The 'Heart' awaits you. Yum ! 😎

I just harvested my first one from a plant that overwintered here in Texas. I planted many this year and hope to get a harvest first year. My OG plant is 3 feet tall and I didn’t know they get even bigger, or that they reproduce with side pups! Great info now I know how to cook mine, y’all’s garden is really amazing!

One of my very favorite dips is a hot cream cheese/parm cheese with spinach & artichokes. I make it a few times a year. So yummy. Comfort food. :-) Hope you and Alice are well.

My artichoke plant fell over with the wind and rain, it was top heavy. It is not doing well right now, I had to harvest all the little chokes. It will come back, I have it staked now. So sad, but it will be okay. I will grow more in the future, I can get pups from this one once it recovers. They are amazing!

I think most people, including kids, dont like to eat their veggies because the cook doesn't season them well enough. Ive gotten lots of people who claimed they didn't like a particular vegetable until they tried them fixed my way.. I grew up on my grannies farm, she had me loving to eat kale and dandelion greens way back even in grade school.

I would cut them lower and take several inches of the stem because that is tasty too and has a lot MORE GOODNESS than the tiny amount on the leaves.

@@pistachio57 After that I would throw the rind in to the water if you are steaming/boiling them. I think you might get more lemon flavor if you additionally squeeze fresh lemon juice on them after they are cooked.

Dan brother when we were children my dad cooked artichokes the same exact way. He would make a bowld of red wine vinaigrette to dip the leaves in and it was oh so good😋. We have some little plants going now. Hopefully we will get a couple by next year😁👍 !!!

Silly me! I thought these were Jerusalem Artichokes! Now I'm curious! Can I grow them in Texas? Wonder if I can propagate them from cuttings or root divisions too . . . ?
@micahlouise9539
@micahlouise9539 Жыл бұрын
I grow both in California, artichokes love our weather, I am by the coast. I would think if it is too hot in summer to put them in a shady spot. Jerusalem artichokes have taken over parts of my garden, I love those too! Artichokes can be propagated, mine started from seed though. See if your local nursery has some starts. That would be the fast way to get them going.
