I left home 50 years ago. Sometimes, I wish I had never left. My father would pick me up at the airport and I would go home and see my mother first, then go visit the horses. I miss those days.

I like the comparison of corn chopping with modern machinery and equine power - on first glance the modern technology looks more efficient because it does more in shorter time. But when you consider the huge amounts of money that have to be made to afford the modern machines you will understand that generally Amish farmers are financially better off than their 'English' colleagues. Amish call non-Amish Americans 'the English'.
