I grow lemon balm and in the summer throw a handful in a gallon of water with a sliced lemon and ice. We drink it all day, so good. In the fall I dry some and also fill a pint jar with lemon balm and olive oil for a couple of months, strain it add bees wax and melt it and it replaces ointments like neosporin. I’ve also used it as insect repellent.

Thanks for the info! I have had many encounters with the benefits of lemon balm. The first time that I saw its miraculous results was about 15 years ago when my daughter was feeling really sick after eating ham that wasn't totally fresh and she was on her way to the hospital. I went to meet her and on my way I purchased a small bottle of water and a Melissa tea pouch at a cafe. I placed the pouch inside the water and brought it to my daughter... about fifteen minutes later when I arrived my daughter was pale and yellowish feeling the digestive discomfort typical of food poisoning, she started drinking the cold tea from the bottle and once she was finished she was feeling 100% better. Before my intervention she was headed for the hospital where she would have been left to wait until a doctor would attend to her and probably bombard her with all kinds of medication. I have used and abused of lemon balm since then as it grows in my property. Last night after having eaten way too many Star cookies which immediately made my stomach feel bloated, I went to bed feeling quite uncomfortable and soon after I had to get up feeling quite miserable which led me to the bathroom with chills. I picked some fresh Melissa threw it into a large cup of boiled water and started drinking it after letting it steep for 5 minutes. After half a cup of tea my total discomfort started to fade and several sips later I was back to my normal self! This is absolutely true, I recommend this plant to everyone. I usually chop up a few bits of the plant which I add to my salads! It's a godsend!

Cuban Oregno is great hang baskets of it around house and coop. flies and Mosquitoes HATE it!Lemonbalm is good too. I have tons. But Cuban Oregno I keep near my doors. No Flys no Mosquitoes. I might get 1 only if the door is left open. I can sit outside and not worry. Use pots or vases full at cook outs. they root in water. easy to multiply. I haven't done lemon balm in vases yet. going to try. TY BY they way. Great channel. just stated watching 👀 😀 👍

Rosemary won't over winter here, southern Canada, but I may find a cultivar that will with some care in winter. We are in the Okanagan and it gets very hot in the summer, but it also gets cold in the winter. I really like rosemary, fresh. Oregano can be almost as prolific as lemon balm and the bees just love it. Some thyme is tough enough.

Does a vacuum sealer work on canning green beans, etc.?
@CosmopolitanCornbread
@CosmopolitanCornbread 2 жыл бұрын
As in to vacuum seal the jar closed? No. Part of the process of preserving the food is having it get up to the temperature that kills bacteria in the food. Processing jars in a canner is a VITAL part of canning. Any low acid food (like green beans) must be pressure canned. High acid foods (like salsa or jellies) are processed in a hot water bath or steam canner. Vacuum sealing a jar closed is only good for dry goods, such as dehydrated herbs and things like that.

Great video! Do you ever have any problems with herbs getting mold on them when you dry them? Or do you dry them in a particular time of year? It gets humid here in NC during summer and fall. Thanks!
@CosmopolitanCornbread
@CosmopolitanCornbread 3 жыл бұрын
No I have not. I lived in NC for 12 years and dried herbs there as well. The key is to always have airflow. If you dry them in hanging bundles, the bundles should be small. I often dried them that way, and put them someplace in the house where the air was dry, like from the ceiling of a closet or pantry. The time of year didn’t really matter.

@@CosmopolitanCornbread An attendant at a restored colonial summer fort pointed to the hanging mullein when I remarked that with so many open cracks in the walls and roof (no ceiling), it was a wonder there were no flies. I've used the method successfully since then in barns, chicken coop, etc. With 50,000,000 minute seeds in each stalk, it's easy to plant everywhere. Remember that it grows foliage the first year and sends up the flower stalk the second year.
