Great to hear! I've subscribed so I will follow along. Just getting started on my small scale flower farm here in Georgia, USA. Question... do you put your cut flowers into any type of solution, or just a bucket of cold water to hydrate for a few hours?
@Gerbr34
@Gerbr34 6 жыл бұрын
Erica Bush, either cold tap water, or tap water with citric acid to lower pH to 4. We're certified organic and we're not allowed to use any commercial hydrators unfortunately

Wow - those hydrangeas are amazing and seem to be going very well out in the open - I thought they needed a little shelter. Really brilliant video - thanks..

Thanks! Annabelle is good outside en so is Limelight (just out of breeder's rights! Happy propagating!). There are other varieties good for outside production, I would try Bodensee as well for colour. Good luck!

Thank you - really helpful. Hoping to start flower farming next year in UK - just need to find the land. Really helpful video thanks. All my peonies are mixed- lost the labels...will try to plant them so they are colour matched!

Great video!! Does the alum powder work for all the flowers or you only use it for hydrangeas? Thanks so much!

Question... yarrow and several other flowers also like to go limp after cutting. Would alum help like it does with hydrangea?
@Gerbr34
@Gerbr34 7 жыл бұрын
Lark Song it's worth trying. Alum is one of the ingredients in some commercial hydrators, besides citric acid and sugar. I usually let things like yarrow hydrate in plain water or water + citric acid overnight in plastic sleeves. They usually are firm and straight the next morning.

I am living in Holland now, but yes you are right, it is not an item that the big Dutch growers grow. You won't find it in the webshops, but it is not difficult to grow yourself! If you're interested in growing cut flowers you might find the book I wrote interesting, it's called the Cut Flower Grower's Handbook and available from Amazon.co.uk 😊
