I hope you see this comment even though the video is from 2019. Regarding plants growing along side the road: You are right this is a bad place to gather plants. I have another reason in addition to the car exaust. The ditch next to the road is where all the junk goes when the road gets plowed. Road salt, etc. We have deep ditches here in Minnesota because of all the snow that gets plowed off the roads. Just look at how dirty and yucky that snow looks. BUT there is something that can be gathered from the road side--seeds!! Gather seeds, take them home and plant them in your own good soil, THEN gather herbs! And on that note, there's another reason to gather your own herbs rather than buying herbs from a company. It's the same reason you should buy local honey. Bees gather pollen from plants in your neighborhood so it provides more of what you need for your health. Herbs grown in your own neighborhood or in your own garden are more closely related to what you need for your own health. I can't prove it but it makes sense to me!

I harvested mullein seeds from a parking lot. I would never use the plants, but the seeds work as seeds for sure! It's in the lot where I work and I thought it was Wooly Lamb's Ear the year before. I didn't know mullein was a biennial at the time as I'm rather new to this field.

I grow Moringa on my farm in Georgia. It’s amazing! Good for lactation! It’s a complete plant protein and has 96 nutrients and 45 antioxidants. Studies are being conducted on Moringa and cancer S well as high blood pressure and diabetes and all kinds of other diseases. The seeds can purify water… Moringa is amazing ! We have over 100 trees and counting on our organic farm! I just signed up for your herbalism school Dr.Jones! I’m almost done with my herbalism school through Heat of Herbs so I will be starting your course next! You should very much look I to Moringa! It’s a tropical tree and hard to grow in most parts of the USA. I’d be happy to send you a gallon of the dried leaves if your interested Dr. Jones.

Do you have advice for starting moringa from seed? I read that they needed to be soaked in very hot water before planting. I did that to a few seeds I had but didn't get a single one to germinate.

Woohoo! Until I watched your training today, I did not realize that my dehydrator was able to dry with fan only, no heat. I guess that's why the temp can be "off" but the dehydrator can be "on." Well, duh. I have been dehydrating herbs at 105, and that's probably okay, but no heat will be better yet. This training class was really helpful. Thanks so much!

About 7 years ago while my daughter was pregnant with her 4th child. She broke out with psoriasis pretty bad. She has never had psoriasis ever or any other kind skin issue before hand. Now she takes a shot, (about once every other month or third month), to help control the psoriasis and keep it at bay. Is there a herb or a combination of herbal medicine that you would recommend to help her heal her body? Thank you for all the valuable information that you share! You are amazing and your knowledge is phenomenal!!

Dehydrating herbs in the Willamette valley in the winter time in a room with just a fan on would result in totally wet moldy herbs. You live in Idaho where it's really dry compared to here including in the winter time. So you could dry herbs anytime of the Year probably with just a fan and do just fine. That's not really practical here in the Willamette valley where it is so wet that we have literally 60 70% humidity most of the time. And in the winter time it can reach much higher.

Fleas and ticks = neem oil! Stinks like a wet dog but works like a dream. Also great as a spritz on kid's hair for lice. It doesn't kill them but makes them disorientated so they can't move or mate. Fantastic stuff. You can use it in a mix of water and dish soap on plants as an insecticide with no withholding period!

I caught one of his videos about using herbs in his practice and would love to learn more. :) And, the screen door material works great. I have been using these for awhile and spread them out in my sunroom, slightly elevated, since it is on the shady side of our property. Larger herbs are hung in the same room.

Hi Heidi, Cats are very difficult. Some will take powdered herbs mixed with stinky/fishy canned food to cover the odor/taste. Most won't. You can also make a tea and eyedropper it into them. They don't love that either. Tinctures can work too but they REALLY don't like that. Make sure you get it all the way in the back of the throat or you'll be wearing most of it. What about freeze drying the herbs? My freeze dryer will freeze somewhere around -51 degrees F and then the shelves heat the trays with product intermittently anywhere from 90 to 125 degrees Farenheit to draw the moisture out. It’s supposedly the best way to preserve the nutrients from all foods. Then I place my freeze dried product in either a Mylar bag or a mason jar along with an oxygen absorber and vacuum seal. Will freeze drying negatively impact the medicinal properties?

Several times I've heard you mention taking herbs in smoothies for palatable reasons. Would using a dairy milk base (or fermented milk base like kefir) inhibit some of the mineral or vitamin uptake of the herbs, thus making it less effective? I heard in the past it's best not to take vitamins while drinking milk, so I'm wondering if it is a similar principle for herbs. I've been pondering this question for a while, so I'm taking the opportunity to ask the expert.

If herbs are very dirty, I'll wash them before I harvest them. But that almost never happens. Bugs tend to avoid medicinal plants generally but they also tend to walk (or fly) away from them once they're harvested. I never see them on my drying racks.

Would you advise caution in the use of echinacea for people with ragweed allergies? They are related plants. I have seen a terrible anaphylaxis from cough drops that had echinacea.

Regarding fevers, I think the concern is always been in regards to extremely high fevers. My son was always my fever kid even into young adulthood with ranges between 102 to 104. His fevers would always last between 2-4 days before finally breaking. Where the concern is always from is hearing from doctors that the fevers in the 104-105 range will cause brain damage. I think that’s probably where most parents are coming from in regards to high fevers and their concerns. Is this fact or fiction?

I feel like it may have started out that way, but parents get concerned over a low-grade fever and start medicating their child to stop the fever, out of fear, rather than understanding fevers are necessary and important. Raising the body's temperature is an excellent way to kill off bad bacteria and cells that are dis-eased and not dying through apoptosis.

@@earthzeroapothecary So is really high fevers ( 104-105 ) a concern regarding brain damage or not? I’m assuming it is if it’s sustained at that level for a long period of time? When my children were smaller I never bothered with a thermometer I could always tell by the forehead if it was a low-grade fever or super high fever. If they felt super hot then I would take it and nine times out of 10 I would always be correct it would be around 102 103 104 mark and then I would medicate. Never treated a low grade fever. Just curious

I know a guy that quit smoking by dipping wooden toothpicks (to replicate holding a cigarette) in black pepper essential oil. He'd even place a few drops under his tongue when cravings hit.

I received my order today and it came with a CD. Is there an online viewing option since I do not have a CD player? I assume Lesson 1 is an introductory lesson on the CD since there's not a package in the box labeled Lesson 1. I am anxious to get started, please let me know my options for viewing the 8 online lessons I received with my Medicine Maker Kit.

Should be fine. But I've never used that one for allergies so can't comment on efficacy. Doc Jones homegrownherbalist.net/

Moringa is a nutritive. Highest nutrient content in a plant. Is incredible. Grown in Africa and India where they cook the fruit ("drumstick vegetable") or leaves and tender shoots and drain the water. They're malnourished as they pour the water away! So as a powder they added to food and within 3 weeks their happy and healthy. The seeds dried and crushed purify water.

Just a question, in one of your videos you showed Lobelia that was red and another that was white. Mine is blue is it ornamental and not medicinal?

Lobelia inflata is blue. Lobelia cardinalis is red. Both are medicinal in the same ways. The L. inflata is stronger. The common little Lobelia flowers used in hanging baskets are usually Lobelia erinus, an African species. It's medicinal too but not in the same ways as the others we've discussed.
