Good stuff. Power is the "enterprise" enthusiasts biggest concern. I was running a 6-core machine, but sold it because it was using too much power. I had 5 VMs running on it. Now I just got a Dell R210 II, and that one is much lighter on my pocket. It uses 1/3 the power. Thanks for another great video!

Hi logikgr Power is a big concern for me too. But when you i play with the big servers,, I can not sit and cry over every watt. I was at the cinema yesterday, this was an approximately 90 minutes long movie, it cost me 75 Danish crowns. (11.2$) I can play with my data center in two days for less,, in weekend mode,, i do shut down stuff wheen i am not here. Thank you for watching! :-)

Thank you for these videos, they have helped me put together my first home server for learning. Without these videos I wouldn't have been able to get anything to work, thank you.

Ive used just a box cutter to cut an opening at the end of my PCIe x1-4 connectors on some older motherboards and confirm this works at least for graphics cards.

i wish i can get 1 server like these just to save my stuff and try new things, just the server case / racks are so fucking expensive here, U$D 1.00 here is like $8.99 + importation... imagine that t_t
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi pingui Where are you from? Server hardware can be hard to come by some places. Thank you for watching! :-)
@j1tapper9 жыл бұрын
My PlayHouse Argentina! isnt hard to get, its hard to pay these expensive prices. We were ARG money 1.00 - US Dollar 1.00 in some time, now is 8.99, so yeah! ( my life is sad ) no just kidding, atleast i have my computer to spend time :P
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi pingui okay,,,, here we pay 6.65 Danish kroner, for a $ and 7,46 for a € It all depends on how much local money you make,,, but if your money for importring stuff has gone down by 8,99 times,,, i see your pain :-/ but it must be good for exeports! Thank you for watching! :-)

You can get some pretty good atom based server boards if it's just for messing around with. And just place it in a old computer. Still not cheap, but brand new and a lot more suitable for having running all the time and learning
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi Ambrose tant-phillis They may well be a fun toys,, but the most powerful atom based server i cut find was this one: www.walmart.com/ip/Supermicro-SuperServer-5018A-TN4-1U-Rack-Server-Intel-Atom-C2750-2.40-GHz/39115134 And this CPU score : 3929 in PassMark,, so it will be about the same speed as a x3650 M1 with 1 x5450 CPU. This one has 2 Intel XEON x5450 for 169$ : www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-X3650-7979B9C-3-0GHz-QC-Intel-Xeon-X5450-48GB-RAM-No-HDD-/121644682014?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c52968b1e Yes it uses 300watts,,like 7,2kth a day,, so in the long run the Atom will be cheaper. Thank you for watching! :-)
