Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Bill Medley, Legendary Music Superstar, Member, The Righteous Brothers
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Bill Medley, is a legendary music superstar whose deep, soulful baritone voice, as one of the Righteous Brothers, changed the face and sound of American music, and ushered in the era of what became known as “blue-eyed soul”.
The Righteous Brothers brought us dozens of hit songs including “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”, “Unchained Melody”, “You’re My Soul and Inspiration”, “Ebb Tide”, “Rock and Roll Heaven”, “Just Once in My Life” and many more. And as a solo artist, our guest had numerous hit singles including “I Can’t Make it Alone”, “Brown Eyed Woman”, “Don’t Know Much”, “I Still Do”, and of course, his mega-hit, Grammy Award-winning duet with Jennifer Warnes, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life”, from the “Dirty Dancing” soundtrack.
Our guest holds the distinction of having had hit records in FOUR different decades. And get this: his song, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” is the MOST PLAYED SONG in the HISTORY of American radio. Over the years, his songs have been featured many movies including “Major League”, “The Last Boy Scout”, “Top Gun”, “Ghost” and “Dirty Dancing”, as well as dozens of TV shows.
And our guest has received many prestigious accolades and awards. As a member of the Righteous Brothers, he received TWO Grammy Award nominations, and he’s been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. And as a solo artist, he received another Grammy nomination in 1972 for his recording of "Freedom and Fear", and in 1988, he and Jennifer Warnes WON the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for their magnificent duet, "I've Had The Time of My Life".
In 2014 our guest released a highly compelling, insightful and very poignant autobiography entitled, “The Time of My Life: A Righteous Brother’s Memoir”. And for the last few months he’s been on a highly successful farewell tour

Knock out interview Harvey with one of the most non conceited singers in show business. I had shivers the first time I heard Loving Feeling back in late 1964. Barry and Cynthia penned the classic etched in time forever, the music of our lifetime................

Wow Harvey, what a great interview with Bill. Seeing his face darken while talking about Elvis and the loss of Bobby was painful to see. And when he teared up over the connection with Vietnam vets was incredibly moving. Love your channel and that you spotlight these beloved artists who we still care about and always will. I am a TV producer and have conducted thousands of interviews for broadcast (unfortunately, Bill wasn't one of them but I've interviewed many artists he shared the stage and busses with). Your passion as a fan always shines through and I could tell the connection with Bill was in a word, special. He was genuinely moved talking to you about his life. Well done!

When I was 19, I was an opening act for the RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS along with DICK AND DEE DEE, THE HONEYS, and THE LARKS on the "Shindig "65" tour in San Carlos, CA. at the "Circle Star Theater" and the "MELODYLAND THEATER" in Anaheim, CA. Once during a rehearsal, he actually came up to me and told me what a teriffic singer I was and how much he liked my singing. I was blown away. He had no idea how important that was to me coming from him and what an impression he had made on me.

I had a friend who was Phil Spector's right hand man. His name was Danny Davis. He told me when the Righteous Brothers left for MGM/Verve Records Phil was so distraught he wanted to commit suicide! He was beside himself and became very resentful toward the Righteous Brothers. Danny had some great stories about his days with Phil Spector. Sadly Danny passed away before he could finish his memoirs. Once again Harvey you hit it out of the park. Wonderful interview.

Harvey is one of the finest interviewers, he never interrupts, or tries to characterize his guests before they even speak, he lets them talk until they are done, unlike so many other idiots do, famous or not. Total respect for his guests as human beings. I never see he guests looking at their watch during the interviews like "When the hell do I get out of here, and where's the fire door?"

💖💖💖💖💖 Bill Medley 💙💙💙💙💙💙....He's the 'gentile' Robbie Benson😍 He exudes humility, honesty, candidness, integrity, and yes....righteousness! 'Brothers' denote strong connections to family, community, and humankind. The black artists knew who they were before they knew. People in the music business came to him because they saw and heard his artistry. They saw and heard REAL talent. He's remained successful and relevant BECAUSE he's grounded. He views the famous as PEOPLE first and their fame second. He's the 'standard' for every young musician who yearns for notoriety and fortune. He's the definition of a CLASSIC ⏺🥰

For Bill Medley - I pulled something right up and watched it. You were live and it was 1970 and at the end you were joined by (looks like Nancy Wilson). It did NOT say Grammies but I think it was. Just type your name and Hey Jude.
