Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Paul Petersen, Actor, Singer, Co-Star, “The Donna Reed Show”
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Paul Petersen, is a beloved former child star, pop singer, teen idol, author, spokesman and child rights activist. We first fell in love with him as “Jeff Stone” on “The Donna Reed Show”.
He also appeared in a number of major motion pictures including “The Monolith Monsters”, “Houseboat”, “A Time for Killing”, “The Happiest Millionaire”, “Journey to Shiloh”, “Mommy’s Day”, “The Portal” and others. And on TV, he’s guest starred in many classic shows including “General Hospital”, “The Virginian”, “Mannix”, “The Flying Nun”, “The Big Valley”, “My Three Sons”, “Lassie”, “Matt Houston”, “Mike Hammer” and many more.
He’s also starred in numerous TV movies including “Something For a Lonely Man”, “In the Year 2889”, “Gidget Grows Up”, “Scout’s Honor”, and “High School USA”. Our guest was also a successful recording artist in the 60’s, with a number of hit songs including "She Can't Find Her Keys", "Keep Your Love Locked", "Lollipops and Roses" and "My Dad".
In the mid-70s, our guest embarked on a writing career. His first book, entitled “High Performance Driving”, teaches drivers to be skillful, safe and efficient. He then published 8 action-adventure novels in a series called “The Smuggler”. And then in 1977 he released a memoir entitled, “Walt, Mickey and Me: Confessions of the First Ex-Mouseketeer”, which is a fascinating and eye-opening account of his tumultuous 3 weeks, at the age of 9 years old, when he was a member of the Mickey Mouse Club TV show hosted by Walt Disney.
And then, in 1991, following the suicides of former child actors Tim Hovey, Trent Lehman and Rusty Hamer, our guest created a non-profit organization called “A Minor Consideration”, which provides support and assistance to former child stars, and advocates for legislative protection for child celebrities in terms of working conditions and financial security. A Minor Consideration has had a tremendously positive and profound impact in the entertainment industry, and it has given our guest the well-deserved title of “the patron saint of child actors”. And in fact, in 1997 our guest received the Former Child Star Lifetime Achievement Award at the Young Artist Awards.

Great interview as usual Harvey! I met Paul at a 5k run in St. Helena, CA in October 1998. I had just finished the race and I recognized him as he was watching the run. We immediately struck up a conversation. I mentioned to Paul that my dad had died on 9/30/98 and that I had played his song " My Dad" at Pop's memorial. Paul was taken back in a good way and offered his sincere condolences. After his wife and her friend finished the race, Paul introduced me to each of them as " my friend Rob". He was so kind, approachable and caring. I truly wish Paul the best.

Hello Harvey, I’m a subscriber and every so often I have to comment and let you know that “You are the best!” You ask a question and then let the celebrity speak. It’s so refreshing to have someone of your intellect doing this job so well. I’m just amazed at the plethora of guests you have! I just had to let you know (although I think I keep giving you the same compliment over and over😊). Thank you Harvey…this is fun. Paul has tried to do good with his celebrity. I love seeing your subscribership going up…well deserved.

My dear friend you have no idea how profoundly grateful and humbled I am by your beautiful feedback and encouragement. I work extremely hard on each interview and sometimes wonder if all my efforts are worth it. I feel our show deserves a much bigger audience, but I have come to the realization that I am extremely fortunate to attract the high caliber guests we get on the show, and to have an extremely loyal and supportive viewership. Thank you for helping me continue with this project by believing in me. Sending you love and gratitude. 🙏❤️

As a young child, I lived in Glendale Ca also where Paul Peterson also lived. We knocked and he answered, THE Paul Peterson!!! He was a total dreamboat. Handsome, charming and truly kind & gracious to scraggly kids. By brother teased me when it was my turn for our autographed pictures by interrupting me and giving Mr. Peterson a different name several times. Mr. Peterson made sure he got the name right. I remembered that all my life. He hasn’t changed a bit with the exception of being even more of a dreamboat. Thank you for that!

Another great interview. Harvey, you ask the best questions, you listen so closely, then articulate yourself so well, acknowledging your guests in every way. Everyone always says this, but you have become the master class at doing these types of interviews. None compare. ps. and btw...you've also made an awful lot of Boomers happy, with so many of your choices of guests from our childhoods. It really brings us back to a simpler time, conjuring up our memories of watching these performers as children... while also being brought up to date with them today. Thank you!

Thank you for this wonderful interview with Paul Peterson. I agree with a poster downthread-your work is healing. I've had a challenging week and your latest episode shows up in my feed. Providence! Funny but just last week I thought how Paul would be a great person for you to interview and here you two are! You always showcase people who have such positive energy. I've said it before; you find folks like yourself. Paul is an outstanding man for his work as an advocate for children in the industry. Child advocacy is a field that has my heart. I particularly enjoyed your in depth questions which brought out things I didn't know about Paul. Great guest, great interviewer and fantastic episode that cheered me tremendously. Few come close to your warmth as an interviewer my friend! Keep up the great work. ❤🙏
