It's always seemed to me like this song is mocking the 90s alt scene while simultaneously acknowledging it is a part of it. Like the protagonist of our song sort of buys into the culture, but the buy-in makes him miserable. The line, ''I'm so hot...cuz I'm in hell'' showcases this ambivalence nicely.
